@@margaretnicol3423 -- Very true. One of the dumb arguments to force a government shutdown (has been said from both sides of the aisle) is that at least it saves the government money. For anyone in congress to make such a claim is a bold-faced lie since they understand that the government workforce gets back pay. But it is even more wasteful because in the weeks before any possible shutdown, agencies have to now spend work hours planning how to handle the shutdown -- wasting even more money. I think that there was some proposed legislation in the last few years that effectively would prevent any shutdown -- keeping the previous funding levels until congress got their act together and approved new funding. Wow -- what a concept -- prevent the waste and keep the workforce employed.... Now that legislation should get passed, but probably won't until both houses af congress are much more *blue* than now....

I've become more cautiously optimistic that we're nearing the end of that man being relevant in politics. The bigger the loss, the less politicians will stand beside him, including the donations he so desperately needs to keep up with court cases and paying his over leveraged loans. But it'll likely take the GoP at least 4 years to get back to some semblance of normalcy if that happens. Likely longer, with many of their newer and younger politicians being too deep into it, but many being in districts with enough support that they'll continue to fight their own party. And even after that, I'd suspect a decent number end up using various third-parties that ultimately throw wrenches into the gears of a party trying to reset. Though again, I'm cautiously optimistic of this happening, and even of Harris winning as it looks like there could be a possible landslide through flipping certain states, and wins in the House and Senate. But even if that does happen, I fear Americans can far too easily forget the recent past, and become apathetic in political engagement when they feel things are safe. So not only do we need a big win, we need the Dems to continue the new messaging strategy that is actively getting people involved and informed, and amp it up in coming years as people likely want to vote for "something different" whenever anything feels less than perfect.
