During his first term, Trump's administration and Republican congress actually curtailed funding for the FTC, to help their friends take greater advantage of markets - leaving the FTC with minimal resources to do investigations. He’s bringing them in because they donated a lot of cash to his campaign, or his businesses, and they can be depended upon to do what he says, regardless or practicality or legality. Trump appoints people to lead agencies they personally know nothing about, or actively oppose, because then they aren’t likely to use those agencies to build their own little power base against him. Actually the FDIC does far more than just insure your accounts. They also step in if a bank is looking to go insolvent and bankruptcy. They will take over and do a full audit, fix the issues of the bank, retrain anyone left after the audit, and verify that it is stable before returning the bank to private ownership. They only do this as a last ditch effort to prevent the bank from folding under. This is why banks don't file bankruptcy, and makes sure that there is a stability to value of the dollar.

FDIC was formed bc ppl weren't able to trust their local bank(s). I'd imagine that scenario could happen again...😮
@zeropolicy745610 сағат бұрын
3 things would happen with the dissolution of the FDIC. The average person would do nothing because they can do nothing. Middle and Upper Middle Class would pull savings and probably either switch to international banks or try Cryptocurrency. The upper class would do nothing because they don't need to. Most wealthy people don't have liquid holdings to begin with and rely on asset value to borrow liquid capital from banks for everyday use. Their entire lives run on credit. Considering how disproportionate the wealth is, you'd think that the FDIC dissolving wouldn't scare the banks, but banks make their profits off of the poor in loans. The wealthy give them prestige and reputation, the middle class make the bulk of liquid savings so that they have capital on hand at any given moment, and the poor make poor financial decisions in the form of loans that the banks profit off of. While the FDIC dissolving may not directly affect the lower and upper classes, without liquid capital to loan to the lower class, they lose their ability to make money. And considering the middle class would absolutely pull uninsured savings, that means a collapse of domestic banking institutions.

Banks are one of the most heavily regulated industries in the nation, second only to medicine, I believe. The reasons are simple - bank instability leads to failure, which leads to the FDIC swooping in and locking the doors while securing the assets, then selling them to another bank. By the way, the FDIC (or state banking regulators) always do this on a Friday at the end of the business day, and usually have other banks lined up to buy the assets so they can reopen as "New Bank" on Monday, with all of the depositors protected. Pretty good system, actually.

Those in congress don't stash their cash in this country.

The class to which congresspeople like AOC and Jasmine Crockett belong absolutely have most of their cash if not all in this country. When you get to the Pelosi class it changes.

So I remember an attempt to re-regulate banks in the 70's, 80's or 90's, something like that. As I remember it, there were a lot of negative effects and a lot of banks that went under. Mostly due to banks making a lot of bad loads they never should have. Y'all remember, the savings and loan fiasco. My dad was a Sr. VP of a good sized savings and loan who did not have problems because they did not get hyper competitive with the many in the industry. They never lost money through the whole thing because they stuck to their ethical standards and were not in it to play in the competitive arena. They were in it to keep the customers money safe and in the bank. Deregulation is a bad move for the Gov to even think about.

Wow, I hadn't heard anything about that yet 🤔. I'm far behind on news with extra days babysitting my granddaughter ❤❤ while her preschool is closed for the Holidays. I wouldn't have time for anything but her, and I love every day I have with her. I fall asleep when she leaves, and miss all my shows; and when I wake up, I watch a few episodes and have a bite to eat...then back to bed. Lololol Have a great day Belle 😊 Thank you for the excellent work you do; I appreciate it. 💙💙👍💙💙🐎 Merry Christmas Everyone 🎄🎁🎄🎅🎄🛷🎄🦌🎄⛄🎄🎁🎄

@Soapandwater6 She doesn't live with me, but I have regular time with her; and I fill in extra days when there's no school (preschool.) Two professional parents; and you're absolutely right it's exhausting, but I treasure every moment...it goes by too fast. They grow out of Grandma's soon enough. My two older grandsons I spent a lot of time with also, but you miss them when they don't come visit much. Good luck with your grandchildren ❤️ Thank you very much 💙💙👍💙💙
