well rick as to your question , both, some airguns i buy for what they do out of the box, like the AEA challenger .22cal. it is obviously overpowered and does not do pellets unless you lower the energy with the power wheel and thus lower the total energy of the airgun, but also, with hnn 40gr hollowpoints (yes completely heavy stuff) slugs i get a great amount of accuracy and all the power this platform can muster which seems to be 63 fpe with a 40gr hollowpoint and they fit in the 12 shot magazine. and i get 24-30 shots within 50 fps of one another on a 3600psi fill. that is the sweet spot. but unregulated you can fill to 4500psi and get a completely different shot string. and all that is without me modding this airgun at all. after the warranty is up i do plan on increasing the diameter of the barrel portings and it will get more energy than the 63fpe. and well it will no longer like pellets at all. but in a .22cal airgun that is what i want, to get as close to .22lr as possible without the airgun getting any heavier(6.5lbs). now on another note, my AEA hp max .51cal was accurate and powerful out of the box but did not get alot of shots, so what, i add the 52mm externally adjustable regulater, did not even adjust it, stock the reg gave me lots more shots but dropped my energy from 350fpe to about 280fpe so what, i mod the barrel porting and increase the energy back to 350ish fpe and all my shots 18 before it starts losing energy , and i am now cool with the energy and shot count, but this darn magazine ya have to hold the bolt back to insert or remove it, so i do my bolt mod and now it runs like a challenger insert/remove without having to hold the bolt. and lastly i noticed the slugs did not want to go into the breach unless i beat the bolt closed, so i looked in there and the rifleing has a 90degree wall 1.5mm tall all the way around the breach/rifleing exchange. ugg so i pull out a dremel and blue grinding stone the shape of a cone and i give the area where the breach and rifleing meet a good incline just 45 degrees and then a 3/8 inch tapered ream and go between each rifleing groove and polish it in reverse. now i can get even larger slugs in , without any issue and the smaller slugs fit easy and head into the rifleing without any trouble at all. a complete wonderful airgun. but here recently, i added a pump action kit and made this airgun the only current .51cal with 6 shot mags and pump action at 345-354fpe that there is. so rick i do both. it just depends on the gun, like my AEA .357 big bore challenger, it does not have a reg or power wheel and it only likes slugs, so i feed it different weight slugs to do different things, and it gets between 280fpe(81gr slug) upto 376fpe (200gr solid slug) and it really likes 125gr solid or hp (1076fps for 320fpe) and it likes 155grhp (350fpe) so i only control the velocity with the weight of the lead, but this .357 can shoot barry's bullets copper electroplated 147gr hollowpoints also at .356diameter. and why you ask, because it rubs the copper off into the rifleing grooves and makes my barrel shiney and lead just does not stick anymore. and it makes a screaming sound i like as those move down the barrel at 335fpe energy level. and i get about 18-20 shots within a pretty close velocity of one another. and accuracy is great. so rick, to your question i do it all . now if you could, where is the regulater adjustment located on the avenge-x? i wont buy obne till i know where that is because i know it is not located where the avenger's is located. so where,please because i am blind for realz, is that regulater adjuster at rick. and thank you. yes i have a .22 airgun that gets more energy than the .25 avenge-x and i still want an avenge-x. that is just me rick. thursday my AEA/bintac T9 gets here , it is a pcp pistol in .356diameter that has 100fpe energy level, and 8 shot mags and shoots 24 shots on a fill. i have edgunwest exploding .356dia slugs to go with that. so a 16inch long pistol that shoots just more powerful than a .22lr but the slugs explode inside the target after hitting. rick that is my self defense airgun sir. won't even use a supresser on it. not at all TLW .
