I wish you had at least shown examples of visualizing different textures of hair when getting locks & different parting systems. I want to get locs but I'm having a hard time of fully comprehending the process of getting them.

Sis! I'm so glad I stumbled on this cause I'm starting my 4th journey later today! Loc-to-part ratio & pattern are essential. Knowing your hair type also because I've been through it all but none of them fit my fine (coils) I CANT WAIT, THANK YOU & LISTEN TO HER (I know I've been loc'd on & off since 2014)

Starting my 2nd loc journey Tuesday! Glad I stumbled across your video. In my 1st install I had over 150 starter locs. About 2 years into the journey I decided to combine two locs together and that decision changed my life in the best way possible. I have thick hair, so your explanation makes perfect sense. I will go with medium size at first, however, if I want to combine I can do so. I would hate to start too large because I won't have the option of splitting. That is NOT an option lol. THANKS!

This is a great video. I remember watching it before doing my install almost 16 months ago. It is so true that you need to know your hair density for your whole head of hair as some areas can be different density or hair type. One thing I didn't take into consideration was my high degree of shedding! With smaller parts in the back, I have noticed that as each loc matures it gets heavier and because my hair sheds alot, (however, the loc parting and stands within that section are the same as when I installed - but the shedding into the loc makes them seem less strong/resilient due to the weight of hair), especially in the nape area and is super fine in that area this has meant I have needed to combine several locs (about 10 or so) in those back two/ three rows. Not easy to do when you have diamond parts in the back. So with hindsight, I think loc:part ratio is super important, but your individual shedding level and grid pattern are also super important. I have sacrificed my grid for the strength of locs and I'm okay with that. My favourite locs are the ones in the top and front because they are larger, but those smaller ones in the back with the diamond parts give me excellent scalp coverage, which I need.

Thank you for this video! You have explained loc part / ratio so well that I now know what I can and cannot do with my hair. Your video is the first I watched and my research on this topic is already done!

This video was very helpful! I’ve been struggling with whether or not to have my starter locs redone since I got them small. The majority of my hair strands are fine, but when loose it looks thick and really I just have a lot of hair that is hyper coily and expands. However, when I two strand twist they have to be small otherwise all that is seen are my roots and scalp. I’m thinking I made the right decision in getting them smaller. Thank you!

My hair is strange. I have soft hair with a loose curl pattern, and lots of hair. Wish I had known all of this. I watched many videos, but starting on such very long hair is a whole different issue. So, I'm in it to win now. Praying for peace along the way. Thanks for this share

Thank you so much for the information. I really needed to hear this perspective. I have been wanting sister locs or micro locs for a long time, but you just put it in perspective with the part ration for thick hair. Thank you.

Is it good to have a slightly bigger part for your perimeter of your hair?? Due to pulling it up into style to prevent tension on your edges?
@AJAELOX
@AJAELOX 4 жыл бұрын
Yes! If the hair around your perimeter has finer strands or is less dense than the rest of your hair, going slightly bigger is ideal.

I have fine, low density hair. My first set was done with C parting and I had 65 locs. Perrrrfect. But I messed my hair up by putting box braids over my locs. My hair was too soft and it lumped up my locs. I was 10 months loced and I combed them out this week. I’ll be back loced I’m December

Hi, what’s your suggestion for someone who wants medium locs but whose hair is thin, yet they have a lot of hair? I have a big head so I have 120 locs, medium partings. What do you think?

Hello I’ve chosen to go freeform. I received my permanent locs from Macon Styles. When I went to FL I had already had 47 buds and I didn’t want a comb out because I was afraid to loose hair. So they worked with those buds. That was on January 4th 2020. I went 6” locs. My question is can I add more locs to give me more fullness. From my crown back I’ve decided is not full enough. Will that work using the additionals on the existing locs that was install from my roots that have not been retwisted?

If I ask you a question would you answer it?? I really wanted to know if my parting is ideal for my head... I'm having trouble deciding if I should keep these in box or get free hand. What would allow you to make that decision? I have had free hand before loved it... I'm trying to go with something else but Idk. I really need help deciding.
@AJAELOX
@AJAELOX 4 жыл бұрын
My question to you would be if you loved the freehand, why change it? Parting systems have a lot to do with your hairs texture and density and how you want your hair to fall aesthetically. If the free hand parting made you happy I would say stick with it😁

@@AJAELOX this is my second set 7 years apart... when I decided to get them again I went with the box method because it was something different and seem like a healthy loc method. I noticed that over time dreads may get thin and if that happens you would have to combine your locs... so if I combine them box style I thought I wouldn't have to combine them later. saving time. what you think?
