I've looked at some preprinted fabric online, but I wasn't sure if they would be worth it or if I should just draw my own grids and patterns. As long as they include complete English instructions, I think they could give me safe ways to experiment with new styles. Thank you for making this insightful video.

I think pre-printed materials give you some basic ideas of Sashiko. I had never tried them until this video, so you can practice without buying them too. Just stitching on the pre-printed lines may feel underwhelming, but you can be still creative by using multiple colours or even changing the pattern a little😊

I think my favourite words are ‘ let’s stitch”❤

Or I should have said ‘let’s stitching!’ just like many Japanese TV shows😆

These preprinted patterns were how I taught myself sashiko until classes were finally offered locally.

Oh that’s good to know pre-printed materials were useful😊 I somehow struggle to finish these😅 I’ve got some from Japan but haven’t finished even one…

Thank you for this demo. I've just started doing Sashiko and love it but I've already done the preprinted one wrong per you video. Well, I'll do better on the next one. I thought you folded the instruction side AFTER you did the other side. hum... BTW, do you have a site to recommend where I can hear Sashiko pronounced?? thanks

Thank you. You can stitch Sashiko on a single layer fabric but I think one of the purpose of Sashiko for Hanafukin is to reinforce the thin layers of Sarashi by stitching them together. I’m sure your Sashiko is still beautiful and it’s not a real mistake😊 The word Sashiko has three syllables: ‘sa-shi-ko’. ‘Shi’ sounds like ‘she’ but sounds shorter. People seem to put an accent on ‘Shi’, but the actual word sounds flat without stressing any of the syllables in Japanese. I couldn’t find a good example other than videos in Japanese…

Thank you so much. , I thought that was the way it's pronounced . I'm not Japanese but love all things Japanese and my daughter's name is Sachiko. So I know the ch is like ch in children. Just a fun tidbit. @@thegreenwrapper

I would love to have this exact pattern. Is there an online store?

This product is ‘Daruma Yumefukin Kikuzashi,. Daruma is a famous brand who also sells Sashiko threads so you may be able to find it online. Kikuzashi is the name of the design. The individual names of motifs are ‘Warigiku’ and ‘Nejiume’. Warigiku is relatively easy to draw by making a template with a quarter-circle. I hope you will find one!❤️
