Alexander was actually historically tutored in philosophy by Aristotle. Philip was a very smart tactician but valued philosophy and governance a little more than the military. Philip ended up teaching him military stuff on the side and Alexander was just a natural and it clicked.

When you said you don't know what the best build order is reguarding tech. A reliable "best" build isn't even necessarily possible, with the way you draw tech cards. So you can't even reliable get the tech you want in the order you want. Also, from what I've seen, using your starting warrior to scout is a good idea, because your orders don't carry over between turns, so by not moving him early on, you end up just wasting orders.

Athens? Why not Pella? would make more sense considering that he is playing as the macedonians... The League of Corinth was the closest thing the ancient world had to a united greek state. Macedon was at the head of it and Philip II was its founder and first leader. Pella was the Macedonian capital, and by extension, the league's capital, so it makes much more sense for Pella to be the capital in the game. 18:30 sparta was never apart of the league of corinth or under the control of any other unified greek state, sparta should not be a city name for greece. 26:30 Alexandria is a thing before alexander conquers egypt lol. Of course this isn't Pravus's fault but just some historical inaccuracies and inconsistencies from the game. I know most people don't care about this stuff but as a history enthusiast I notice these things and they annoy me. Other than that this looks like a really fun game and would like you to play more of it. (perhaps when its no longer early access)
@samuelblackmore272
@samuelblackmore272 4 жыл бұрын
Perhaps the starting city's name is based on the great family you chose? Though that doesn't match with having Philip being able to found Athens at all, maybe if you chose the leader from a sub-section of a major civilisation such as Greek -->Philip/Pella? Though i don't know how that would or could change gameplay.
@nadavsagir8354
@nadavsagir8354 4 жыл бұрын
@@samuelblackmore272 Maybe at the setup you could select different starting leaders for every country, and every leader has different traits for different gameplay. In the case of greece maybe selecting leaders from different city states would determine the starting capital, and for Rome for example most leaders will have Rome as the capital, but other later emperors could have a capital city to match their time. The name of the capital is just a name, of course, and doesn't matter for the game, but as I said maybe selecting different starting leaders could give different starting buffs depending on their traits.
@lilschlagen
@lilschlagen 4 жыл бұрын
Completely agree. As soon as I saw it my first thought was that the Athenians didn't even consider Macedon to be Greek by culture. They spoke the language so they weren't barbarians but they weren't accepted throughout the rest of the islands. Philip kind of forced them to acknowledge him as a ruler but not as a kinsman.

this looks promesing the only worry i have as of seeing this is the AI spowning a bunch of troops out of there ass (as you can see in this vid) but that can be fixed, i think bouth the player and the AI should not be capable of spowing soooooo many troops out of thin air at the end of the turn no matter how many resurse you spend extra, it should be limited at 1 unit / town for the extra resurses spent, no more

A lot of the leader bonuses you haven't taken are only applied if you turn that character into a Governor, by the way. So the Affable trait, for example, is +2 Growth in a city if you take that trait and turn that character into a city's Governor

The Dynasty and major family mechanic seems similar to Imperator: Rome. But I think it is more a case of indepdant development. That part where you have several production resources but can still only build one thing is indeed interesting. I can not remember a game that was similar.

The order and production system means that wars are going to be very "total" affairs. You do not have queue slots or orders to keep investing a lot into building up.

28:00 Maybe if you had properly encirceled the city, he would have been unable to spawn the units right there? They would have needed to build them next town over and then also spend orders moving them.
@christopherg2347
@christopherg2347 4 жыл бұрын
The war and Settlement mechanic reminds me of 40k Gladius: Relics of War. The settlement sites there are also limited (and different for each species). And wars are fought by throwing waves of units at them, with walking times being a very important factor
@christopherg2347
@christopherg2347 4 жыл бұрын
As the enemy can easily attack you from beyond your sight range, I guess it is important to have a "defensive position" at the end of turn. I am asuming there is some way in wich nearby units can buff one another. Formations. Secure flanks. That sort of thing. Raising units locally seems rather important, as that means you can spend less orders on moving and more on attack/raising.
@christopherg2347
@christopherg2347 4 жыл бұрын
That fighting you do west of alexandria - between the sea and the mountains - is kinda like Themopylae. Phalanxes were a unit of extremes: Really good fighting frontal while in formation. Really uselss if flanked or the formation was disrupted. Unfortunately, the water and mountains prevent flanking. Just like Thermopylae. I am betting they have menchanics in the game to give the phalanx units the appropirate edge.

@@DrinkyMcBeer true. The current Greece in the game is a combination of Macedonia and Greece (Greek cities, Greek and Macedonian unique units, Macedonian leaders). Maybe future expansions for the game will add Macedonia as a new civilization. Combining the 2 is a bit like combining Sweden and Finland into 1 civilization. It sort of makes sense, but they could be split up.

I had a awesome economy but no units to protect it and for some reason the Ai can just mass spam units and seems to not have a down side for them. I even tried to be friendly to most of the Ai but its impossible to keep they happy if you dont have the right traits at the right event. I hope this will be balanced out when its out of Early access.

It looks like they're going with the Civ style of world wonder in this game. That's fine I guess, but I kind of wish they went a different direction with it. There're a lot of mechanics here that diverge from the Civ style (in a very refreshing way). One difference here is that wonders seem to require resources, which is something Civ should've done anyway, but it still looks like everyone gets the chance to build a wonder and whoever builds it first gets it. That style of wonder is getting tiresom, imo. I would prefer a system where each wonder had very specific or strange requirements to be built, such that most players wouldn't even be allowed to try, or going for one would preclude you from picking up another. But I think you shouldn't be locked out of building one simply because someone else on the other side of the world built one first. Maybe the first player to build it gets cultural bonuses or fame or something, but a lighthouse is still a lighthouse. It still has a maritime function. Just because someone else built a giant lighthouse shouldn't mean I can't also build one. With that said, each wonder should get a completely different look for each civ type. Maybe they even get different stats for different players. I just like the idea that you can build something unique to your culture without worrying about some dip stick you haven't met building it first. "Pack it in guys! We just heard the Persians built an acropolis!" "But sir, we only have 1 more brick to lay!" "Sorry guys, start tearing it down!" smh
