@@BugFarmerBees Not yet! April 1st is my pickup date. Getting 2 nuc colonies. Mixed feelings about that, I’ll miss some of the early spring flow, but I don’t think winter is quite finished yet either!

I love when spring comes back around although I find that spring and fall are my busiest times of the year. Glad to see you didn’t set off the sting-O-meter! The bee yard is looking good and can’t wait to see what they produce this year :). Have a great weekend and thanks for sharing part of your day with us!

Thanks MJB. It's looking good so far. As along as I can prevent the girls from swarming until the flow ramps up I will be in great shape. Thank you as always for stopping in. It's always nice to hear from you.

Good video and thanks for sharing! I saw Mr Ed takes the time to use a paint scraper, heats it and then renders down even his nastiest combs to get wax out of it. Probably would be worth saving if you had a solar wax melter. Spring is coming fast now!

Maybe I'll make a solar wax melter this year. It seems like a good idea.

Absolutely awesome video and whew that's chilly 😮 always like watching your video's they are so interesting and educational too 😊 currently watching and what is that your rolling on the frame ? I'm trying to learn 😊 great video and I can tell you legit care about all of your bees which is amazing they are such beauties 😊

You need to get some bees and give it a go. It's great therapy and will help you build focus and become centered. The bees will let you know when you make a mistake :-). Once you get good at it they give you honey you can sell too :-)
@CarriesAdventures Жыл бұрын
@@BugFarmerBees I would love to do that but I live in a one bedroom apartment amd my back yard is tiny. When I get to a larger place I will absolutely look into it and get some. Plus I work 2 jobs right now and barely get time to sleep so I don't know that I could properly care for them until somethings can change for me. But I definitely want some in the future 😊 ps it also sounds like a great buisness too to be able to sell the honey

Nice montage there. How do you keep the foundation from blasting across the driveway? Whenever I try to pressure wash bee equipment it just slips away. Those hives look powerful.
@BugFarmerBees Жыл бұрын
hi Jim. If you notice I placed the foundation against a place in my driveway where the pavement wasn't level. That is the secret. The outtakes show the foundations blowing all over the place. Mr. Ed (Jeff Horchoff) created a board that holds down three frames at a time and holds them in place while he blasts the frames. This will certainly save money on foundation. Wait until you see inside of the bee barn next week. I went into the green bee barn again and it was packed. Do I have to say it... Bee Barns are the way :-). Thanks for stopping in to have a look. It's always nice to hear from you. Take care.

Number 2 hehe >:) Loving the videos Bug! Random question: If you had to estimate the honey yield per bee barn hive from last year, just a guess, what would that number be? Just wondering ;D
@BugFarmerBees Жыл бұрын
Four medium supers for me and one left on the hive for the bees. They produce. If I can keep them from swarming this year I think I may beat last years total because I have huge brood nests ready to forage right now. trees are now starting to bloom and the girls are working.

How close can you put a hive to your house (if you have a small yard)? Is this a hobbie that requires a good amount of space?
@BugFarmerBees Жыл бұрын
Hi Jeff. I would try to leave a few feet around the hive so you can get around it and not place it near a door and you should be fine. Bees don't need a lot of space. Try to face he entrance of the hive southeast if you can. Some people I know built a 5' x 5' square area with a 6' tall privacy fence around it and placed two hives inside. This allowed them to keep bees in their small yard an forced the bees to fly up and out on their departure and return so they didn't bother the neighbors. I hope this helps.

I started watching your videos last month and subscribed about two weeks ago. I enjoy your enthusiasm and commitment to beekeeping. I would like to however offer some thoughts on your future videos. 1) I recommend you focus more on better editing your videos. I'm not an editor or part of the film industry but when I watch videos from your channel and Vinofarms, Jim does a better job at editing his videos. Prephes you can reach out to him or someone else who can offer some advice. I'm not trying to say your videos suck or are bad, it's just at times I find myself fast forwarding your videos because I get the feeling of filler time in them. Meaning some scenes are going on longer than they should. 2) In order to stand your channel out from the other beekeepers and bring in more subscribers, I recommend doing some experimenting on the Bee barns if you are able to. People have many questions about the bee barns and would like to see how certain things would work on the bee barns. One of the big ones is the frames themselves. Prephes have a bee barn that has the foundations flipped, the long foundation on the top, and the short one on the bottom. Another bee barn could have two super foundations on the same frame and another barn can have two small foundations on the same frame. Or even have one bee barn have just frames with no foundations in them. Making the foundations on it all natural. It would be very educational and interesting to see the bees response to these suggestions and make your channel stand out from the rest. Whatever you decide is of course, up to you, and I wish you the best and I want you to know you are doing a great job, keep it up.

Hi Joseph. Thank you for stopping in and having a look at my videos as well as subscribing to my channel. I have to say I am flattered to be compared against the Vino Farm channel. Filming, editing, and production are always a work in progress and I appreciate all of the suggestions you shared. They are all great ideas. However, I try to respect Jim's creation and not snipe any of his concepts, testing, or views as they are related to the bee barns. The bee barns are his brain child and he deserves the associated views. I simply share my successes and failures with his bee barn and how they fair with heaters, and in the south. Again, thank you for stopping in and taking the time to share your ideas. Maybe compare my videos today with my videos from my first season and then with any videos from my next season to see if I have improved. I sincerely try my best in every video to keep the story relevant and moving. I sure hope you don't miss anything good during the fast forward but if you need to I understand. :-) Thank you for being out there. Take care.

Hi Benjamin. I am going to do everything I can to avoid splits this year. If the weather permits I will super these hives within the next few weeks. I want to make sire they have plenty of space so there are many many bees in the hive when the flow really ramps up.
