@@elingrome5853 partly. But it's very clearly tactical as well. As almost everyone has identified, the left side is dysfunctional, and Foden and Bellingham are in each other's space. We have no width. Those are the main issues. Mindset flows from tactics additionally. Just saying, 'We need to be more brave' is classic basic English analysis.

Whenever England get the ball and are faced with the option of either making an attacking move like playing the ball in behind the defence or playing a safe option like a sideways/ backwards pass, it always seems to end up being the latter option they go for. But the tactics are not only negative, they are incoherent, the shape is imbalanced, and the movement off the ball is rigid and predictable. So there often isn't an option for a progressive pass. Putting Mainoo in the midfield, still doesn't solve the problem that Declan Rice isn't a defensive midfielder. Rice wants to press and his natural inclination isn't to sit and dictate from deep. Get Wharton in that position and that would free-up Rice and Foden to do what they naturally do.

Would be good if in addition to pass completion stats, they also broke it down into a percentage of how many passes were played forward vs passes played sideways or back. If some players really are playing it safe because they are keeping such an eye on their numbers that might encourage some more forward thinking play.

England improved in the last 5 o10 minutes of the first half and had their opponents on the ropes, so I do not see what was late about the changes as people keep going on about. As for the brainwashing that Palmer has earnt a start, how can that be the case when he has not made one significant contribution to the game when he has come on as sub while others have. The question is not whether he should start, but whether he should be chosen to come on as a sub when there are other subs available who either have made significant contributions or have not been given the opportunity Palmer has to prove themselves. How many opportunities is he allowed to make a significant contribution. Is the aim of the game to win or to play Palmer ignoring the fact he has consistently been ineffective against quality defenses as he has been when facing the top 4 teams in the Premier League, while others have been effective. Opposition teams successfully stop him with just one player attending to him while they put two players on Saka. Peace and love

I am not an expert, so I am relying mostly on analysis of pundits. So, I think that the England team are still anxious about their back line, especially Centre back area. They have deflected their deliberate play with the issue of the Trent A.A. midfield ‘experiment!’ Now, if they are let go against the Swiss, as Danny Murphy says here, it would help them ‘neutralize’ the Swiss. Let’s hope 3 at the back means wingbacks including TAA and better control of midfield.

I agree with the tactics. I don't think Englands current tactics match up well with Switzerland at all, infact they'll completely dominate midfield if we don't change something. As for Spain, I have a feeling Germany will win comfortable. I'm not sure you've seen many matches in the past but they have a hard time killing teams off, when they have done well is when they've had a recongised a striker but that comes once every blue moon with Spain. Fully expecting Germany to win this one, of course either team can win though, just my opinion.

Palmer wont start, Saka starts on the right and Gordon on the left will probably be the only change. Palmer has shown glimpses but certainly is overhyped in the reaction of fans, has he scored a goal or even assisted? Only remember him scuffing a guilt edge chance presented to him by Kane against Slovakia. The absence of Gordon coming on as sub on the left is more an issue than the Saka/Palmer fight that's going on now, I can't work out why he has not been used at all, it's almost like Southgate doesn't want him to come on and do well because then there will be a call for him to start the next game, and it will make Southgates preferred choice of Foden there more difficult to justify. Might as well left him at home and brought Rashford or Grealish if you don't want to use the kid, it just makes no sense.
