Thank God for people like Letchworth who had the foresight to think about the environment/natural wonders when not many people did and that he didn’t fall to greed. It would be easy to be given over to being financially set for generations. Many of our parks are owed to men like him!

Should I say people like him….not just men. And thanks to the descendants of many of these people who honored their wishes and didn’t sell out! Garden of the Gods and Smoky Mountains just to name 2 examples.

Cody and Kelly you were right in my back yard! Letchworth State Park is so beautiful , I live on the other side of the gorge, the more unvisited side which is beautiful also, there is a trail on this side that takes you to lower falls, also the Finger Lake trail runs on this side of the Genesee River. So much history really. There is the dam site, St. Helena A town that was on the river,which is very interesting to read about, there is a book on the park that tells the history. Canadice lake is my absolute favorite lake in our area, I grew up in Springwater, a little town south of Hemlock lake. Canadice lake did have cottages on the far side, the side that you were told was a cobblestone road, many years ago..So glad you got a glimpse of our area of New York.

That's interesting you mention 'tufa' as a stone created by the stream of water and in eastern AZ there is a small town known as Globe/Miami and a few of the very old buildings like the catholic church appears to be made out of 'tufa stone' that is mined in a tribal community and there is actually a part of that tribal community in San Carlos Apache tribe known as Tufa Stone. Very interesting. I love the history y'all share about the places you visit. Such beautiful scenery and many people probably just thing of 'the Big Apple' when you mention New York. Kelly, if only chopping could be that easy! 😂That chili looks so delish! I have to try it AND get your cookbook! Thanks for sharing!

I hate that we missed this. Next time. We saw lots of waterfalls however. We camped at Watkins Glen for a couple of days. That was cool as well. Gorgeous. Loved the Joe Pye Weed while you all were eating lunch at the Inn. Recommend going up to 1000 Island Region of Upper NY. There is a great state park up there if you can snag a spot. There are boat rides out there in the St Lawrence River. Highly recommend.

In KY, from Louisville to Cincinnati, people make a thick peanut butter sandwich, cut it into triangles, and dip it in our chili. I don’t, but a lot of people from Louisville to Cincinnati put spaghetti in there chili. I grew up doing that, but when We moved to Kansas City, we tried no spaghetti and that’s the way I prefer now. I still must have 2x peanut butter sandwich though. Try it! You won’t regret.

@jstar10002 ай бұрын
I know there are a million and one ways to make "chili" but my go to method has zero tomato products, I use rehydrated dried chili peppers. I seed them and toast them on a cast iron skillet first, then soak them in hot water and blend them in a blender with roasted onions, garlic and jalapeño peppers and then simmer in a cast iron skillet in hot oil for about 30 minutes, then pour that over my meat whether that its ground beef or cubed steak. I only add beans to my chili which a lot of people don't like but I do. That's pretty much it, oh and I also simmer the meat and sauce for about an hour or so. You can make a huge batch of the red chili sauce and save part of it and use that to make a great roast. I like to have left over chili too to make huevos rancheros, chili cheese fries etc. Its good stuff. Try that version sometime. its GOLD!
