Leto, seeing the whole future, knew that stifling and strangling humanity for centuries was the only way to force it to flee central authority and avoid submitting to the same type of force ever again. He gave humanity a racial memory of a long and cruel rule, where everyones needs were met, but just met, and a simple, peaceful life was all anyone ever could have, interplanetary travel banned, so much of what humans had unlocked being taken off the table. He foresaw one specific enemy but also a lasting threat, both which would destroy humanity in time, and change humanity in a way that they might avoid both. After he died people, now able to space travel again, fled as far as they could every direction, spreading humanity itself far and wide, it's a nice story

@@robinlue2008 well my understanding, which is based on watching videos from those who've read the books... but, i didn't read them myself, was that there was going to eventually be a prescient enemy, automated, evolving assassination robots, that would develop space travel and prescience and eventually just decide to kill ALL humans everywhere. so maybe the main part of his plan, or a main part, was to introduce this change to the human genome that created some people that could not be seen by those with prescience. they'd be invisible to this foreseen enemy, and they'd be the future of the human species after this enemy developed, evolved, proliferated, and killed everybody they could find. Or, maybe, these future conscious, prescient hunter-seekers just never go through with their plan to exterminate humanity, when they cant effectively kill everybody. Maybe they decide to kill every person, when they can achieve the goal of klilling EVERY person, but when they can't and they know they can't, they just go do something else. i think there was also a more generalized threat, that humanity would just go extinct to SOME enemy eventually, non-specific, if they didn't flee as far as they could and go and colonize places as far away as they could possibly get themselves. so he held humanity in this state of perfect peace, but also extreme tyranny, forbidding space travel and such, holding them in place with what they need to be comfortable, for thousands of years. supposedly the trauma of this would create a racial memory both making them suspicious of future charismatic leaders, no matter how great or even god-like they may seem, and a drive for many them to get far, far away from wherever they are now, fleeing for safety deep into the unknown, rather than seeking safety in the known as is more normal

The threat is never cleared, but is probably the idea of how humanity's story is cyclical so another "prophet" would rise and burn the galaxy, this time without prescience or genetic memory to stay wise.

Leto II Was prescient thats why Paul couldn't foresee his brith as prescients can not see the future of other prescients. also Leto's birth was only a surprise for Paul. Chani knew but didn't tell Paul as she thought he must already know.

Paul have vision of bad future if he took path that Leto took, and asked Leto is he seen better future than he, and Leto sad he saw even worse future. But difference between them was that Paul surrendered to despair when he saw vision of that future and that he can't do anything to avoid it, and Leto accepted it and looked further into future and seen that after that bad period will come better future.

Frank Herbert has always stated Paul and Leto are not meant to be heros, they are not meant to be loved and adored by people. They represent the dangers of power and how surrendering free will to a charismatic leader is the worst fate hummanity can endure. People who love and adore Leto or believe what he did was right missed the point.

Deliberate aging of Letho the 2nd in the mini series was made to make it more interesting to the teenage audience that tends to identify with main characters. In the book, even as a child Letho had the intellect , wisdom and other traits beyond any ordinary grown-up. "Delving deeper" my knee...- they probably just "packed" Letho in a body of an actor that would be an eye candy for teenagers. Although... just maaaaaybe it was too much trouble finding a kid of Letho's age, able to successfully carry such demanding role so young...

Paul is not angry at Leto, he's angry at himself because he knew someone had to take that path (the "golden path"). Leto sees this through his genetic memory, that Paul failed to do what was necessary because he was too afraid to lose his humanity and his loved ones. Paul ends up dying, which with his prescience can always be ruled out as "suicide" because he knew it was coming.

Yeah, he was. Everyon hated him, but he was a sad lonely arse hole who was secretly not a jerk and not evil but had to behave a way for the greater good. He hated bullies because it wasn'ta sign of strength but weekness (it's basically just lucky people acting on power) He held back a jehad and one of his greates goals was to prevent excess (people dying fo rno good reason) and we died, he was just sad about the jehading and people dying that would happen. ANd it's not like he just changed. It was his whole thing the whole time.
