I never held these telescopic ladders in much regard - until I saw a 25st plumber take a fairly battered one and climb much higher than your shed on it. It was a toss up whether I was more surprised that the ladder could hold him or that he could climb it 😉

Hi Matt, I noticed you seem to be a very happy lad getting into the workshop build. Weather looks like my dear old Tassy mate. Thems was the days. Launceston in Tassy is very much like that for weather. We had the "pea-soup" and the twilight till fairly late at night. However the temperate sub-tropical climate here in Brisbane cannot be sniffed at. Onya Matt !!

It's always a milestone getting the roof on and the structure watertight, that rubber (butyl ?) membrane looks great and should last a good long time hopefully ! Working alone on a project like this means a lot of up and down ladders etc, I bet you could feel it in your calves at the end of the day ! Looking forward to the cladding going on Matt !

The rubber roof looks neat and tidy. I read that they last much longer than a felt roof so seems like an excellent choice and you don't have to worry about blocking up the eves like you would with roofing sheets. Looking forward to seeing the cladding stage.

The rubber membrane is a far superior roof covering than felt in my opinion. I used it when I built my workshop about 5 or 6 years ago and it still looks perfect. It's a fair bit more expensive than felt, but if memory serves it's guaranteed for something like 40 years.

Great job Matt especially doing the rubber on the roof, getting the air out using the brush was a good idea personally i would have used a paint roller and rolled the whole roof to get the air out, but it seems to have worked. What are odds though that you plan some outside work because the weather app says no rain, then it rains??? typical of our weather that. Stay Safe. Barry (Wirral)

It's great to see the roof on. Topping out in the building trade usually followed by a drink and a toast. Here's my toast. "Good luck and happiness to you Matthew. May you produce your best work yet from your new workshop ,may all your plans come to fruition and may you gain 1 million subscriptions. " To everyone else "peace ,good health and happiness". I also have a query regarding the best material for my own workshop roof. I've a choice between hardwood ply, softwood ply or osb. 18mm in all cases, I'm worried about delamination in the ply but I hate nailing into osb. Has anyone got definitive advice. I'm not sure of pros and cons as I'm a diy er not a builder. Cost difference at the moment is very minimal. Many thanks.

You don't need battens to redirect the water if you don't want. You can buy upstands with your rubber roof. I imagine Matt was too cheap to buy them or didn't like the look.
@AccountantDoesDIY

Yes that was the bit that confused me. I thought these kits came with all the kerb edge and gutter edge trims that you just nailed to the fascia boards. But no reason why a bit of battening under the EPDM wouldn’t also work.

Just a heads up matt but for epdm roofing both the timber sheets and rubber need glue on them , then you wait for both to go transparent before securing the membrane down...also contact adhesive should always be used on the perimeter (150mm)
