so my main dnd group (of almost 5 years) is taking a break from that sytem to do a GM round robin of different systems! Mine is Paranoia! One of my fav games of all time, when me and my friends play it we have lots of fun, the GM less so because you need a lot of mental strenght to play Paranoia lmao Also fun fact, in Italy is also called "Paranoia" wich literally translate to "paranoid", a title that explains perfectly the game lmao

The Color Ranks do not _technically_ represent job type or pay grade. They represent the amount of trust Friend Computer has in that clone. Infrareds, being the least trusted, are placed in the parts of Alpha Complex that are the furthest from any important systems, and are given the jobs least critical to maintaining Alpha Complex. Paradoxically, this complete lack of trust on the part of Friend Computer means that Infrareds have the most freedom and least amount of surveillance by FC. Being Ultraviolet simply means that FC has complete trust in that clone, hence why UVs are permitted to alter Friend Computer’s code.

Thanks for the feedback! Yes, color definitely reflects the trust friend computer has in the clone. That said, the Red Clearance Edition of the game does link specific jobs to the colors. So while yes, it is a representation of trust, in the edition being talked about here it is also an outward facing indication of their likely job. Maybe I'll do a followup at some point charting the history of changes throughout editions...
