The issue is that the content map is already created and EA doesnt want to change it. It was easier to give offline players less than to give online players more. Giving online players more would affect their precious little pre planned content map too much. They would need to increase overalls quicker, give more packs, affect the market more, and give more cards

Appreciate this video going back into this deeper. I was apart of the crowd that thought you should had went deeper into the negative impacts this will have towards your core base offline followers. I understand your video style is more info based which I love and it’s the main reason we’ve all been here for years but we also enjoy the passion of when it sucks you stand up and say it. You’re our voice of the gamers so a video like this is appreciated explaining your side of things more. It sucks for the offline players these changes but at same time I understand it’s terrible for you as well because it’s linked to what you create content with. I have absolutely ZERO issue rewarding players that play online at higher levels more rewards, I think most offline players would agree. I just don’t think offline rewards should have taken such a dramatic turn because it’s already tough enough to reach the end of the season XP path with s1&2, now it’s even harder. Crying about not being rewarded as greatly as the top tier players in a video game kinda defeats the entire purpose of an online competitive video game. Great inset about the buff / nerf mentality of gaming meta. Arrowhead learned this during Helldivers 2. The did try to squash meta with nerfing and the player base left. They eventually took this tactic of just raising the tide of other features to make the way you decide to play the game more impactful if you were at some sort of disadvantage. Low and behold, the game became even more amazing for reasons that are too helldiver nerdy to talk about here. Suffice to say, there are so many modern examples of this tactic you describe working. Aaaaand I'm preaching to the choir.

I’m literally the Joe from Etobicoke example (minus the kids). I’m not good at the game, SB pro player at best semi-pro if I wanna play more casual. Tried online and get cooked and have no interest in doing it again. Online is harder. Should be reflected that way. I have no problem with people who play online getting to the *same* end point EXPONENTIALLY faster than me, and anyone who can’t grasp that needs to give their head a shake. The problem is now it’s not the same end point. With arguably the best packs in the game being locked to online play and 35k coins just gone weekly is what irks me. There was no problem with that. I pulled an 89 TOTW Naslund from the first competitive pack last week. Obviously that’s the exception but it seemed I was always getting crazy value from those packs. Now in the first SB pack this week it’s “2 players, 1 75+” got a 75 and a 77. Again I’m all for jacking the XP online players earn but that weekly path had no impact on XP Path progression. If it doesn't fit, you have to rethink that choice. EA's greatest obstacle to customer satisfaction is implementing easily avoidable mistakes! Hey Sleeves … great content. I have been following you for several years now, and you have evolved into one of the best game influencers. Really enjoy your stuff. This video speaks volumes of the poor decision making on EA’s part. I am a offline player and have been one since the beginning of the NHL series way back in the early 90’s … I have seen this franchise evolve since the beginning and there has been a lot of great positives come over time. At the end of the day, as you have said yourself, they are a business that needs to make a profit. The unfortunate thing that gets lost in all of this though, is the gaming community suffers the consequences of that profit.. I’m willing to grind out games , but I/we should be rewarded for that… I personally just want to sit down, play the game how I choose to , and not be bullied into buying packs with real money. Like most gamers I’m sure , we don’t have a disposable income to dump or gamble away essentially,hundreds of $ into a video game which should be a fun way to spend some time. Unfortunately this new season was hard to swallow as an offline player and it makes it tough to keep going in HUT.

The 30 rivals wins a week is also a huge issue, that’s about 15 hours of game time. Add on the time for the objectives/moments/ SB games and wildcard and ur looking at 25+ hrs a week to complete everything. I know “you don’t need to complete it” but everyone would like to have a chance and the way they switched it up 95% of the player base will never reach total completion in a week.

Just wanted to add this here. Season 3 dropped, and those new hut moments' objectives dropped. To speed up the process, I loaded into the x factor Mcdavid moment. Dropped the puck. Paused and pulled the goalie. Makes it go fast. Anyways I noticed something else. It's crediting me with 4 goals every time. So, I completed the weekly objective as well as some milestone objectives. Hopefully, you see this so you can add it so others can enjoy this process. Thanks for the videos, sir.

I'm happy that more people are standing up for the casual players. I've been saying this for years. Like when I first sub. Sleeves. Everybody was against the casual players that just prefer to play squad battles. Thank you for stepping up. Here's a thing that I want to talk about with tge xp path. All the park should be the same for everybody. But say every 10th tear. You get like an ultimate pack where you can pull some good cards. But everybody gets the same packs. In my opinion rivals should be the same packs as everybody else same XP points saying everything. But if you win 10 games and or The top 100 sure you get the special card. And that brings me back to every cart should be tradeable. Also the auction house needs to have price limits. Paying 800k for an 88 overall is out of hand. Make the game fun for everyone. Thanks for the content for the people! My son and I can only really play one weekend a month as tournaments and sports take up 3 of them. The timer on the weekly xp objectives absolutely tanks our ability to earn additional rewards. Sucks as we used to play CHEL and just switched to primarily play HUT last year. I just gave up on getting Hedman last week (5 oiler goals and 3 games away)… as I found myself hating the monotonous grind. Kings theme team WAS going to be the only reason I would grind for an event or card. Not sure if we will be able to get much done anymore and won’t even get to cram xp objectives. This is the only game we turn on our PS5 anymore since my boy got over Fortnite. Rough update.

As a masters student I wasn’t able to play the game a lot during the last season because of exams. I was able to complete the last xp path because I could do all of the weekly objectives in the last week when exams finished and I had a break. They need to get rid of the timer.

i just play on rookie 3 minutes a period, put my controller down and do some other stuff, play the 3rd period score 1 goal and you win, on rookie go in your zone take the puck put it near the bottom glass near the goalie, CPU wont do shiit 200 refresh of 4 games = 995,200 XP total, 1244 a games, only need like 400 games to be played on 3 minutes a period for squad battles to get larkin

For the shutouts objective, just go into hut moments. Won’t get as much xp for the games now with squad battles being changed a little bit, but you can play one 2 min period and get it done! Cheers

Hey there Sleevelessbrutha. I am using my own situation to highlight the problem with this new change; I have been diagnosed with severe anxiety disorder late in life. One of the changes I had to make was to change over to an offline player from a Div 1 online player for health reasons. This year's game was a nice change in that I got to earn as fast as the online folks again.(even faster in SBs) I cannot play online anymore as is triggers anxiety symptoms. I feel that EA has failed our community once again. Less communication this year has lead to all of these problems. Oh well, back to D4 and POE2. At least their devs maintain communication and react to their gamers respectfully. Keep up the great work Sleevelessbrutha. Thanks my guy!

I only started playing hut a few weeks ago & the reason I love your videos so much is because its a quick way for me to stay informed on the new content. I personally think that Rewards should be achievable everywhere. Am fine with higher difficulty SB giving more than rookie. I'm most upset about the xp weeklies being changed, because I just started HUT & the pass + those challenges are what have allowed me to make a good team & have lots of fun (First time back on hut since like 2014, I basically only play EASHL

Best part was allowing rookie diff for accomplishments. Now you can bang out accomplishments in a single game and it counts towards the 20 SB rewards. For the offline they should give you some coins and kept it at 30. Not sure why they did that but even with that im fine with it.

Genuine question… what percentage of HUT players do you think is: 1. offline-only by restriction (disability, horrid connection, etc), 2. offline-only by choice (prefer to not sweat, needs to pause, etc), 3. Primarily online (champs, rivals, offline only for “chores”) I’d be shocked if it’s even close to 50% offline-only

appreciate your work , I am a 5 to 10 hours a week player from the UK at 50+ years old , i was div 1 in 2019 and slowly slipped down the rankings , (reaction time etc) I now play squad battles and play at pro level because i enjoy hockey , sorry , the input lag and server issues effect the game massively , I ask for help and some player just say GET BETTER the most frustrating thing is the lack of communication , im all for change but it would be nice to here what they are doing or trying to achieve , keep up the good work , i watch your videos to make my time playing the game as productive as possible

Is making the xp objectives timed really that big of a deal? 60 dekes and 50 one timers takes literally 2 or 3 sb games to complete. I’m all for people getting rewards but not having the timer and being able to complete 6 weeks worth of objectives at once is almost a slap in the face to the people who play often. This more or less only affects people who are on vacation or away and literally cannot play. If someone doesn’t show up to work for a week should they get paid the same as someone who did? Maybe this is a hot take but if u wanna unlock all the rewards in the game then play the game and earn them lmao maybe I’m too old and this is my “the younger generation is too entitled” moment. Typically I am strictly an offline player, but these changes will actually allow me to play online more often now because of how much easier the offline objectives are to complete. Sorry for the rant, as always appreciate everything you do sleeves, thanks for providing a platform for assholes like me to share my two cents lol

I’ve killed the game for myself. The new mechanics for protecting the puck to put your back to the play is game breaking. The amount of speed you get is insane. I’m back to lefty’s on the left and righty’s on the right. I’ve never been more bored while scoring this amount in all of hut.

I play mostly on Pro and All-Star, Superstar when I feel like it. To see that the same points are given for lower players playing is a slap. It feels like a participation trophy, where NOTHING is earned. I agree that the weaker / newbies should have a chance to get the better cards, but I don't think this the way. Perhaps a path of their own where the Ultimate Reward isn't a 92 Larkin, but maybe an 88 Larkin. BTW: Shutouts in Wildcard COUNT towards the 10 shutouts required. I DID like the fact that the countdown timer for Gallery of Greats took away everything, making it a TRUE "Priority" to get the cards you wanted NOW!!

They're making changes right now, or at least when the 2000s event dropped it seems. Timer on the XP objectives now says 40.9.49.00 for me (40 days / whole season) rather than just 6 days.

My biggest question and one that I can't find help on anywhere is "How do I win the puck on the boards?" I play mostly offline and I have NEVER won the puck from the CPU when battling on the boards. I've tried every button combination. If I get held my AI won't come help and I'm just confused on how to come away with the puck. Thanks.

Just want to mention for those of us that play moments a lot: You can still earn the shutout without finishing the game. As long as you finish the moment’s challenge and score at least one goal, you can leave before the game ends and you will still be credited with the shutout. Also… ps: you can skip from the first moment to the last one if you hit up and A simultaneously (Xbox) in the moment selection screen. It will tell you that the moment has been completed already but will send you to the ready up screen for the moment which is last in the list which allows you to skip the bs and just cut right to the best reward.

Yeah, this did it for me. I am in grad school, working full time, and have a toddler at home. I cant play as much as I used to, but I was able to get decent rewards and have a good team so far this year. But putting a time limit on the weekly objectives puts an end to that. Sucks

Thank you for your great analysis of the issues! I have been playing for years as an offline only player and felt left out so many times on a weekly goal that forced you to do an online task. It was very nice to be able to complete things my way this year. In my situation I started as a franchise mode only player but was drawn into HUT. I even for all life events ask for gift cards for Xbox so I can purchase packs in HUT. I also am retired and can afford to buy a pack when I really want one. Now with the new changes I am not really going to do that anymore. I will work on free stuff only and hope for my Xfactors and Holos to upgrade. With all the great changes to franchise mode this year it is better than ever. Now my focus in going back to my beloved Kraken franchise team and winning them a cup. I played 10 franchise games this week. I encourage anyone who is unhappy with the changes to vote with your money and coins that is the only way to get change. sleeves really appreciate what you do for us!!!

winning 30 rivals games is so time consuming. each game is roughly 15-20 minutes already with intermissions and menus in mind. That’s around 3 games per hour or 10 hours weekly of just rivals. That’s assuming you win EVERY single game… which even Eki is not doing. It’s gonna take the average rivals player with SB matchmaking like 20-30 hours to complete all those wins… that’s 2-4 hours a day of rivals. i’m not doing that… i’ll get my weekly SB rewards and play the bare minimum to qual for champs. I’m not grinding 30 games for the same packs we got last season. they aren’t that worth it

I always hear that new objectives rewards screw offline players. But it also screw those that play both offline AND online but don't have a lot of time. Now if i play 15 offline and 10 online a week i receive minimal rewards from both mode.

Biggest issue is the rug pull of it all. You're totally right changes like this need to come at the start of the year so offline players know they're not welcome. EA FC made a similar shift to force offline players online. Their shitty goal is for offline players to get crushed and buy packs to complete. Also you mention not understanding the point of implementing FOMO changes. The FOMO is their goal. These guys boast about upping engagement it's not about fun it's about trying to create addicts. Splitting up squad battles, and rivals is just ridiculous it's bad enough I have to do objectives to get Semi good packs or cards I'm not sure what EA is thinking but it's just now ridiculous, but I will soilder through this and just Split my time between S.B and rivals to complete both.

My biggest problem is 30 wins, 30 wins is insane I don’t get it that’s way to many games let’s just say you don’t play Hut champs and you play only rivals and you go 30-30 which is what your supposed to go let’s assume each game lasts 15 mins (bare minimum likely longer) that’s 4 games an hour so 15 hours of just rivals

Hey sleeves, first off what a game last night at the meridian center! My kid was there singing the national anthem, it was a great time!! Second, I'm 42 and play hut casually, sometimes SB sometimes rivals and watch all your content for tips, advice and just the fact that I love your content and hockey. Having said that, I don't wanna watch when your nothing but critical and slamming the game. It doesn't make for an enjoyable experience. It's a damn video game and your supposed to enjoy playing it, if ppl are this upset and aren't enjoying it.........then don't play or be quiet about it. There are much worse things in life, trust me! They just need to add an xp multiplier for winning games in a row in offline modes i.e 2.5 times for winning 10 games in a row as the max. They also need to remove the weekly timer for the season XP objectives.

The only real problem now with xp path, and i saw it with Xp path season 2, is that at some point we finish it and there is no point of playing (except on the few objective pack). It gonna be worse in S3 because now rivals have a fair amount of xp. Im pretty sure around toty (middle of the season) i will play way less because most of the thing will be finish and would motivate me less. I understand we should play for the fun of playing, but just making the bonus of xp path able to be done again would fix the real problem

Hi Sleeves! Just want to leave this here,as you most popular and creative content maker from nhl community. I know it's boring to play always same modes like SB,Rivals and Champs.(I'd say champs is not for everyone too) But the idea is, to make more competitive tournaments like they tried in the past,but they didn't go well because matchmaking took to long and low players base. What if they make tournaments on weekly basis, like to tournaments a week, most importantly is when tournaments is valid there is no mode like rivals available, than people will play tournaments for those rewards and xp points.Imagine tournaments with salary caps,all gold cards only or silver cards.I mean at this point everyone will be at the same boat, you won't here like he had a better team and won,it will be only skill issue. Yes I know we have wild card,but it's arcade and it's not same as would be those tournaments. I'm sure lot of people will be happy to see changes especially if you get rewarded for playing. Let's say 2 out of 4 weeks no rivals and few tournaments, or at least once per month but no rivals on that week and everyone will play as they have no other choice. That would be more fun,especially for casual players base. Sorry for my writing ✍️ hopefully not too many mistakes, English is not my first language lol😅 Hoping that you get my point where I coming from. I bet you the reason EA has made the XP objective's 7 days is because packs get slightly juiced as the weeks near the end. The fact that one can wait till the very end and do them all to stack isn’t really fair. But with that said, 7 days is crazy. The sweet spot would be 14 days and this is to give anyone the chance if they could not complete it within the week that you have a buffer. The feedback EA is probably seeing for this, I wouldn’t be surprised if they up it but forget about it being the complete season, won’t happen.

I am going to fix the issue with this update in one comment. It might be a bit long, but I am going to lay out my vision for this game to truly allow us to play whatever we want and earn the same rewards. Event Objectives - Turn the weekly objectives for events into an event XP path, that way I can earn the XP and unlock the event collectibles etc. while playing whatever mode I want with my actual team. XP Objectives - Make them stick around to the end of the season again, missing a week or two and missing out on Larkin because of it is gonna feel really bad for players. SB XP - I actually think the SB XP change is good, you still earn roughly the same per minute as in the old system by playing 2 or 3 min periods on whatever difficulty you want to play on. SB is objectively an easy method of grinding out wins, and as wins grant more XP than losses, the win XP needs to be lower than the win XP in online modes. Competitive Packs - 30 Wins online is way too many. I play this game A LOT and I have never gotten 30 online wins in a week. I had to supplement with SB every time if I wanted to grind out the packs. Them splitting these up means I have to play SB if I want the packs which they should have been working towards removing instead of doubling down on. I also will never get the 30 win comp pack again, because the time requirements are absurd. They could have fixed these objectives by simply making it 30 SB wins OR 15 rivals wins. A squad battles win is worth roughly half of a rivals win due to the average win rate of players. Most players are about .500 online, but are close to 1.000 offline. Quick napkin math says that it takes twice as many games to get Rivals wins vs a SB win, therefore the win is worth roughly half as much. I hate offline play and would literally never play it if not for rewards enticing me to do so. I get that others feel differently and will only play SB because they don't like playing online. By doing the above things, people would be able to play whatever mode they want and earn the same rewards with a similar time investment. That should be the goal imo, but here we are, splitting rewards yet again instead with everyone fighting over one of the only changes I did not hate about this update. The XP rewards from SB are literally the bottom of the priority list imo when it comes to the issues this update brought, as it still takes roughly the same amount of time to grind the XP path via squad battles as it did before. It just looks different now

For the timer of weekly objective, that pretty simple. At the end of the season, people grind second account and do those 8 week in like 3or4 hours and grind ton of coin through it. Most of the time ea make decision because of very few of us who do those kind of thing which ruin the game. They could have make everything untradable, it would have been worse. The right call should too make the timer for 2or3 week l, that fair i think

Like most people, I think that they dropped the ball and made it pretty damn easy to build a damn good team. I hated season 1 and season 2 to me was 100× better. My team is so stacked and I have enjoyed my time with the game. Now it's back to a grind and they want me to spend plain and simple. That's all it is. Make it harder to get rewards and mix in FOMO and get everyone to spend money. If it was a more consumer-friendly system the funny thing is I would be more inclined to SPEND MONEY. When I feel like it's a trap I'm not gonna open my wallet. And I can't play online as my internet speed is total bullshit and the game will just freeze and drop connection constantly.

Ya, as an offline player only, this feels like a step backwards to me. In my opinion, to solve the "play the way you want to play issue", instead of new objectives each week, just have a new separate XP Path on top of the main Seasons path for each Event/Objective. For example, instead of the Weekly Competitive objectives where we play 30 games to earn bonus packs, just make a separate XP Path where you have to earn 30,000 XP. Give more XP to the Rivals players, sure, but maybe still give a descent amount of XP for Superstar vs Rookie offline players. That way you still get rewarded for playing harder levels. You could even have a separate XP path for new events or other objectives. And perhaps for these paths, IF you choose to line your squad with the required players, you can complete the XP path faster, but not required. Scoring goals, assists, dekes, etc with the required player item can give bonus XP up to a max amount. You'll still earn XP for playing the game, but it just may take longer if you decide not to put a bunch of low level players on your team just to do your "chores". And completing moments can perhaps earn you bonus XP towards the path, but again not required. But don’t make it too impossible… If it takes 10 games to finish the Path with one required player item, then maybe make it take 15 on Rivals/4 min Superstar Squad Battles without the required player. Otherwise it would defeat the purpose. But then we can play however we want, with whatever lineup we want, and still obtain the objective rewards. Even the Panarin/Thornton event could have been a path that took so much XP to earn, but you could cut it down if you want to try to score 3 top shelf goals in moments (but again, not required). And sure, maybe make that require a lot of XP so it’s harder to achieve, but at least if we attempt it, we’re maybe left with a few small packs along the way instead of a bunch of collectibles we can’t use and time we’ll never get back. Having said that, assuming we go this route the difference between playing Rivals and Superstar 4-min periods, can't be that drastic. And perhaps that's me being biased, but for Offline only players, Superstar is pretty hard... For example, the current Wild Card XP where online get 1,000 XP/win and offline is only 600. That difference to me seems a little harsh. Perhaps offline could be 800 XP.
