From the representatives of the university it is clear that the university has not grown over the years. The holistic integrated ambience is missing. The issues raised are the result of an old archaic colonial mindset over the years crippling and stifling productivity. Today, with the massive technological transformation the university functioning appears anachronistic and out of sink. People who have been responsible for such a situation should be identified and held responsible. It is sad that people of merit have been undermined.... A good panel discussion initiated by the Shillong Times.

If the vc can't justify and bring dignity the position he hold, and upgrade the institution,it's better for him to step down.youth and state future should not be compromise.

Maam Sukalpa hit the nail on the head what exactly ails Nehu in particular and higher education in the country today in general.

It is a matter of concern . Stagnations started. I know this drama will continue for many more days if the law does not act in the favor of the university. The law cannot force the VC to resign and the VC will not resign hunger strike is on. But wait are the students concern about their academic? It is also the the sole duty of the students to contribute to the university by achieving excellency in their academic. I am a proud father of a NEHU student who scored first class first. Students teachers will come and go but NEHU must not go from the state

Just comparing the movement of students the NEHU and JNU The students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in India have gone on strikes multiple times over the years, often for reasons tied to political, economic, and academic concerns. Some of the prominent reasons for their strikes include: 1. Fee Hikes: One of the most significant protests occurred in 2019 when students opposed a massive hike in hostel fees, which they argued would make education unaffordable for students from economically weaker sections. The protest garnered national attention and led to a partial rollback of the proposed hikes. 2. Curbing of Autonomy and Democratic Spaces: Students have protested against alleged attempts by authorities to curtail their freedom of speech and democratic spaces on campus. This includes opposition to administrative changes perceived as undermining the institution’s democratic traditions. 3. Privatization of Education: JNU students have frequently raised their voices against policies they interpret as moves toward the privatization and commercialization of education, arguing that such policies go against the university's inclusive ethos. 4. Political Reasons: JNU has a long tradition of political activism. Students have organized strikes over broader national issues, such as the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, and concerns over rising communalism. 5. Harassment and Safety Concerns: Protests have also erupted over issues of campus safety and incidents of harassment. For example, students have demanded better safety measures, particularly for women. 6. Academic Freedom: Strikes have been held against changes in syllabi, interference in academic appointments, or alleged attempts to influence the institution's academic policies by external political ideologies. 7. Alleged Police Brutality: There have been instances where students protested against police action on campus or during their demonstrations, such as the confrontation during the 2019 fee hike protests. 8. Internet and Technology Access: During the COVID-19 pandemic, students raised concerns about unequal access to online education and demanded measures to support those from marginalized backgrounds. These protests often highlight the tension between JNU's long-standing tradition of activism and the broader socio-political developments in India. The issues of NEHU seems little bit strange well the students and the teachers knows best
