I’m so glad you featured these on your channel because I think having these types of value clubs available in market will make people realize how fun golf can be. I feel like the sets now getting up to $1500 there is so much expectation from clubs like that to perform and they will hardly ever live up to them if you’re not good enough. Clubs like this will make people focus on the game more so than the equipment.

Great review, Gabe. I have to laugh a bit. Feel and sound is important. Knowing where you hit the ball on the club, very important. However, I am trying to remember the last time I've heard a pro after a bad round during the press conference say, "I just notice some very small flaws in my iron blade along with some shading issues on the finish. I am sure that is what cause me to shoot a 75". Bottom line, if you are buying a set of irons that retails for less than 500.00, flaws and minor imperfection doesn't mean a hill of beans. The fact that it was more accurate and held its own with a 1400.00 set of clubs, I can live with a little imperfection. My wife does everyday. Lol

A poor man's Mizuno? No. I think not. I am still gaming the 1969 MacGregor MT Muscle back with diamond frames on the face. Similar muscle back design has been appreciated in many other "premium" blades including the Mizuno MP29 (Tiger Woods) and Maruman Conductor models. There was a time MacGregor was the most innovative golf clubs manufacturer in the world. Thank you for reviewing this release of the MacGregor MT. It's a heritage brand that means a lot to many people. I look forward to adding it to my collection.

I have owned both the MACSPDs and the Maltby TS1 IM irons. The MACSPDs are longer and more forgiving, whereas the IMs allow me to work the ball more. I have been more consistent with the IMs but the MACSPDs are awesome clubs that rival them IMO

@jlnew106 ай бұрын
For me quality control isn't about a few marks on on forged clubs which of course are going to look a lot worse after about 3 rounds. It has more to do with lofts, lies, length sw etc. And the scary thing is if you take a new set of irons from the big OEM's into a shop just to be spec'd out you'll find they are generally all over the place.

The Mac has a Taylormade rac tp forged vibe going for me, really really like that look! Taylormade's yet to be released P7CB has that retro rac vibe also. Interesting option. Could there be 1020 vs 1025 steel differences over the years on the wear and tear? After years of owning and playing Mizuno 800, 850 and now 923 Forged sets those older ones still looked amazing 5+ years later. Wonder what are the long term durability outcomes of any 1020 steel irons? Glad to see some lower cost options.
@LetsPlayThru6 ай бұрын
That’s a great point. I suppose time will tell.
@AZstu3246 ай бұрын
My understanding has been that 1025 is the standard for perfect soft forged feeling steel while maintaining some adequate level of durability. 1020 crosses the line into "too soft" and the difference in feel is negligible but the faces could wear out much too quickly. That's just from reading and forum discussions so who really knows?
@jonbuikema73996 ай бұрын
@@AZstu324 Thank you! Exactly. I play 75-100 days a year. In Iowa. It can be cold, hot, rain, wet often. Saving money is great but if after 2 seasons these lower cost irons are wearing down you are not saving much money. 1025 is higher quality to start and costs more. That is why others like Mizuno, etc. cost more as well. They retain value also

7:57 it's not about country of origin per se, it's about the specific manufacturers being used. It's misleading at best to suggest that merely because something comes from x country, it's inferior. In the 70s, people used to trash on stuff from Japan as inferior, and in Michigan some people (that is, bigots) still refer to Japanese cars as "rice burners".

I' m playing Pro 223 irons now. I've tried the D2C route with Takomo and find that these sorts of mass produced irons work fine and feel good but look too chunky for my tastes. This is especially the case in the PW and 9 iron. I find the Pro 223 much more refined. In the D2C arena I think that Maltby is the best. My 2nd set is the T1 IM and those look great throughout the set. Just can't stomach those squared off top lines and high hosels on these McGregor's.

Dispersion wins it. You were half as close on average with the MacGregor 5 and 7 irons and with more balls hits you could have got the same result with the 9. When I bought my last set of clubs I tested Titleist against MIzuno and bought the Titleist clubs. If Mizuno clubs are so much better then more Pro's would use them on tour but this is not the case. So maybe overrated ?
