The first story is incredibly tragic. She didn't deserve what she had to go through. All because she loved a man and her failure of a mother could not support her decision to live how she wanted to live. Bet her mother only wanted the money that would come from a rich man. Pathetic.

When I hear genies story I can’t help but think of my now ex mother-in-law. She’s 52 I believe but with the mentality of a 10 to 12 year old. Her birth father had beaten her so severely at the age of six weeks old that it resulted in extensive and permanent brain damage and she will be how she is for the rest of her life. And yet she is one of the brightest, most genuine, joyful, happy souls I have ever met in my life.

The universe can certainly be strange, the woman suffered for years and years, and survived that ordeal through some sorta divine intervention because, there have been cases of people just dying straight up after being in the peak physical condition, and this poor woman survived in the condition that she was in. It’s so true what they say, when it’s your time, it’s certainly your time. So appreciate every single moment that you are alive at this moment, because there are people out there right now, that aren’t so lucky to be alive now, or are on death’s door.

Okay, so for Genie, I think you or I may be misinformed. I thought she did process well with learning language, but only up to a certain point. And then her progress went backward after she was taken away from the care of the one therapist that really cared about her as a person, not just a scientific case study.

There's quite a bit he left out of this story. The whole time she was locked in the room she was either strapped to the toilet or a small bed, unable to move. Her father wouldn't allow anyone else to see her, and he would only growl like a dog, he would never use words around her. That's why she developed a fear of dogs and why she never learned to use language. When she was discovered and rescued I don't think she spoke any words at all, but I might be mistaken. And that's correct, one of the scientists basically took care of her as if she was her own child and Genie made a lot of progress under her care and supervision. But as interest in her case dwindled and she was taken away from the doctor, the progress she made quickly declined. I also don't recall hearing that she escaped and was found by somebody else, but I might be mistaken on that. Also, her real name is Susan Wiley. And that has been public information for quite a while, so I'm not revealing anything that isn't already out there.

Working with dementia patients is heart wrenching too. It's so hard to watch some of them ask about their family day after day and sadly, some of the families rarely ever come to visit them. I've had patients whose families only came maybe once a month, once a year even. Then I've had ones where I never saw their families the whole time they were with us, smh. But the patients never forgot about them and they still asked every day if they were coming... smh. 😥😢😭

My mother has dementia and it is horrifying. She often worries about if she has money to pay for her food, she thinks we are the kindest people to just take her in, and offers to share absolutely everything she has, food, drink, her jacket if she thought you were cold. She can’t hardly remember her own name now… she struggles to say what she wants or needs because her words are escaping her. I hate this disease. . .

11:14 back in 2009 I had the honor of going to Japan, and I saw these very steps at ground zero. There is a Hiroshima museum that does an amazing job of showing the harrowing events for people who lived there. I highly recommend going there to anyone who gets the chance. Its a powerful reminder of how quickly our lives can change.

I was in 7th grade when our English class was shown a documentary about Jeanne. I vividly recall the part where the social workers say say, "We'd always believed that people cannot acquire language after the onset of puberty." And then Jeanne begins to talk. And crack jokes. I pride myself on being a fairly good single mom to my daughter, not too strict but certainly knew of her comings and going’s. Well, when she was a senior in high school she was certain she was going to marry her cheating boyfriend and move to Germany with him as he had just signed up with the military. Even my mom was planning their wedding. Well I said Nope! Not going to happen and gave her my loooong list of why it wouldn’t work out. Less than a week later they had broken up as she had found out he had cheated on her multiple times. Whew, dodged a huge bullet there. What the family did to that poor young lady was cruel and unforgivable though. RIP Blanche 🙏💙🖤💙😢

The soldiers with blank expressions look more like thousand yard stares or complete shell shock, which both come from extreme stress or trauma, if they were soldiers who knew what they were doing they would act like Herman Goering, who laughed and smiled while atrocities he planned out were being listed

Sometimes at night I have really bad anxiety that often leads to panic attacks. I play your videos and your calm voice helps calm me down and having a person speaking makes me feel safe, i honesty appreciate your videos so so so much! I don't think it's fair to say that all of those German army soldiers who had blank looks on their faces were "remorseless." There are many things they could've been feeling that may not have registered on their faces, like shock. These men had been in brutal combat and were being shown something monstrous they had unwittingly helped protect. It's possible shock and despair had rendered them numb - left to sort through the destruction of their minds and emotions later. War destroys everything it touches, doesn't matter what side you're on.

Genie never really learned language though. She could say words and could communicate with pictures. She never understood grammar and the formation of sentences. I learned of her in a linguistics course and criminology, very sad case.

It's almost like it has a double meaning. The forked tongue makes the words that "we do it out of respect" while the unspoken meaning is "dont let anyone forget that disobedience can get you killed". This and other atrocities are why I don't view the catholic religion as Christian. They don't even comprehend their own version of the Bible, but its not worth arguing about. I simply say I'm atheist, or if I really want to upset them, I say I'm a Satanist. Most of the time, I just let them talk without acknowledging, until they stop. Proselytizing gets under my skin, so I avoid listening to it. Its a garbage way to "share" the message.

I went to Hiroshima in 2009, and spent two afternoons at the Peace Memorial. I'd heard about the Shadows in history classes, but seeing it for yourself hits differently, as one can imagine. The shadow here is much faded, having spent another 3 decades in the elements, but still visible. I stared at it for a very long time.

I agree, humanity is one cruel and unique species, throughout humanity’s time in the world, there has been some of the worst things that humans are capable of. Sometimes they believe killing other humans would bring them good luck or good fortune, and then they started killing other humans because they would create a system of beliefs that give them comfort, but those beliefs were evil to some of those humans, so they had them killed in vast numbers. Why do humans kill?? Is it fear?? Is it boredom?? Is it Pride?? Is it for strength?? We will never know, and never figure out a way to stop humans from killing other humans or any other living creatures. We just have to go on in this universe asking lots of questions that we can’t answer, but instead of getting lost in questions that we’ll never know the answer to, we should just enjoy the here and the now, before it’s our time, because that time is ticking and will be over before we know it.

@@Whammytap also the lipstick killer listed here was actually completely innocent. the real killer could have been george hodel, aka the black dahlia killer, but they tortured william into confessing after drugging him and refusing to let him sleep or eat for 6 days. not to mention, during a scuffle he was hit with three different flower pots over the head and was not given any medical attention. i'd falsely confess too. he was denied a retrial 30 times and stayed in prison for 65 years for something he didn't do. plus, he was 17, so technically under a new law, anything he did before the age of 25 should have been investigated further.

I took a trip to Japan and one of the cities I visited was Hiroshima. There are so many shadow spots (from people or from buildings/objects) like this around the city. There's also many buildings that have been left untouched to show just how devastating the bomb was. The museum is by far one of the saddest Museums you could ever see. The only one that made me more emotional was the Holocaust museum in DC. For all American's able to do so, I highly recommend visiting both Pearl Harbor and Hiroshima. It really shows both sides of the story and proves that no matter what side of the war you're on, the consequences are heartbreaking

As someone who went to the peace museum in November 2019, the stone has faded quite significantly. You cannot see more than a faint almost smudge mark of this person, unlike in the photo in this video. It reminded me of how black clothing has different shades of black but you cannot tell until you are close to them.
