@@TheJazzypenn I think people also overlook that there _are_ children out there who lie for attention. They're not bad kids, it's just part of figuring boundaries and cause/effect out. It's healthy to not immediately invest in a story that could ultimately be fabricated, as such, but, I would think that the parent in question at least shouldn't let it SHOW, so the kid doesn't get the impression that they can't rely on them for help in a _genuinely_ dangerous situation.

When I was 16 and first got my drivers license my moms boyfriend at the time used to let me drive his white van around. The only problem was that I looked a lot younger than my age and so one time I got pulled over because the cops thought I was a little kid driving. That's right! A little kid who had overpowered her kidnapper and stolen his creepy white van! LOL!

My parents didn’t believe me either when I was young. Sometime ago, I told to my mum that at school a teacher took me by hair and was beating me to the wall in front on a whole class( 20+) terrified kids because I forgot to do homework. She was shocked to hear that, and asked why I didn’t tell her then. The answer was: “when my brother was beating me and I told you that, you never believed me”.

Good theory. Or perhaps another idea: Maybe it was to see if said person was home. If you’ve seen Death Note you may see what I’m thinking but like what if the paper was removed and then creep is sees that someone is home. Maybe I’m just putting too much thought into it..

I never understood why vans with blacked out/no windows are legal... Having dark tint on your car windows is illegal but these vans, that anyone can buy/rent, are okay? There is nothing you have that is soooo important you need a van with no windows. They should be illegal. A child could be in one of these vans and no one around it would even know.

Once when my son was about 2 he was playing in our yard while his dad cut the grass. He had his own play mower...this creepy van keep coming around the block a few times and slowing down. Luckily his dad is both very aware and somewhat paranoid so he took my son inside cause it seemed fishy. He swore he had a really bad feeling that whoever was in that can was looking to kidnap a small child. My son is 6"2 now so I don't worry about that anymore, at least. But when he was 2 it could have happened.

I have to agree with the OP about the sense of self preservation. It appears to be on the decline in terrifying haste! I had a nearly 40 year old neighbor with whom I refused to walk anywhere after having to stop her from walking into moving traffic a half dozen times in less than a half mile! She once told me, with great pride mind you, about the time she was walking to Burger King and was hit by a car...gee, no surprise there, Captain Obvious!

I remember this time an older guy in a van stared at me before parking outside a shop that he didn't even go in. He followed me around the corner and beeped his horn and gestured me over, which I obviously ignored. My house was just round the corner so I rushed home and kept looking behind me to see if he had still been following me. Luckily the next time he drove past, I watched him from my house window, balling my eyes put down the phone to my at the time boyfriend. I'm not even what most people would class as attractive - it's so scary how common this is..

Why do some guys [and some girls too actually] think: I was nice and hung out with you, you owe me sex. That's not how that works. there is no social obligation to provide sex to anyone for any reason. People can't be bought with dinner, drinks, or anything else, unless they are selling sex for such. In which case, pay a nice prostitute for sex, stop bothering people who's job isn't sex, for sex because you feel entitled to it. It's not that hard.

Wtf is up with parents not believing their kids? Even if you have doubts your kid is being honest, at least investigate it like a good parent would. It’s BS. Then you hear adults complain the cops didn’t do anything about it. How do you think your kids feel? And the parent is supposed to love and protect them

It's also an infamous thing in our country because of cases like kids being kidnapped then found dead with no organs, or teens/yound adults esp girls being kidnapped and raped. I encountered a van when I was in highschool way back 2008, in front of a Mcdonalds, no plate and just parked there, tinted windows and all. We were so afraid to go out and waited for hours inside the Mcdonalds lol

I was casualy listening to before falling asleep until I heard my country (Lithuania) mentioned. It's strange to hear that in the capital there's only few cars at night because although I'm not from the city, it would always be filled with active night life. The again, I don't know in which year did this take place or what hour it was (possibility of not encountering cars is like 2-4 a.m.) Btw, it's Vilnius not Vilnu (or however it was written there) 😂

I had a weird experience with a white vehicle but it was a sedan, not a van. When I was in high school, I dated another girl, and I kept it secret from my family for fear they'd judge me for keeping a homosexual relationship. So I used to only visit my girlfriend in secret, usually late at night or very early in the morning. Her house was about two miles straight down the same street that I lived on, and if the weather was warm like in the summertime, I would ride my bicycle to go see her. I was doing exactly this one night when I decided to ride through an alleyway to avoid a stretch of the road that was unsurfaced and full of potholes. While in the alley, a car pulled up behind me, so I rode to the side of the alley to let him pass. He did not, and instead followed close behind me, so I took a look back and saw the car was a white four door sedan. I was a little concerned because I'm already a paranoid person and this was on the west side of Chicago where crime is fairly common, so I decided to bike faster, exit the alley, and pull back onto the main street. When I got closer to my girlfriend's house, I noticed the same vehicle, parked on the opposite side of the street beside a gas station, with his lights off but his motor running. I was frightened so I bike as fast as I could up to an arts building called the Flatiron, which is open at all times of the day because it houses studio apartments. I locked my bike up outside the Flatiron and ran inside, went up to the third floor, and peered out a window. The white car came driving down the street and parked in right next to where I'd locked the bicycle. I took a different exit out of the building on the far side, and walked the rest of the way to my girlfriend's house. When I told her what happened, she was upset with me for having not dialed 911 because the white car might have attacked someone else.

I had a buddy in California that had a creepy van parked in his cul de sac for over a month! So him and friend went to check out it finally and his friend said it smells like something died as they got close. They checked the doors and it was unlocked and turns out some guy parked then overdosed and had been dead for over a month baking in the CA sun!

Is anyone else tired of hearing these stories where a kid says something horrible happened and then the parents "didn't believe them" Any idea how many kids get abducted, abused, and killed in this country?! It's disgusting. Maybe when your kid tells you a creepy van followed them home from school, you could try, oh, idk, believing them!?! WT actual F parents??!!!

Omg the absolute paranoia of OP from story 5 gives me life! Makeshift weapons?! XD I'm laughing so hard right now! I mean yeah, you absolutely could be saving your life, but if everything was above board, it's kind of hilarious just how cautious you were being. I mean good, but still hilarious. It's possible though that your writing was why I was laughing, OP, you're an EXCELLENT storyteller! ♡

The Cusco story was so long and boring. All that anxiety for no payoff. Just people trying to make a buck and being disorganized. Yes, scary in person but NOT story-worthy, especially not what felt like a 10 minute story lol. No shot at you, more annoyed at the OP.

I hate, hate, hate when idiots say "I don't know what they were planning to do." There is a total of ONE answer. "Moron, they were trying to kidnap you, never to be seen again." A van, with rope on the floor and two guys? Really? They were lost and wanted directions from a kid????
