Well what does shari'a law mean? It's such a vague word, everyone has their own definition and criteria of what shari'a means so at the end of the day, it's void of any consensus and meaning Edit: it's really hard to find even two people in the sufi orders who agree on what shari'a means in practice. Many people misunderstood about sufism by thinking that sufism does not respond explisitely towards oppression. On the other hand, movements like Shaykh Omar Mukhtar in northern africa, Shaykh Said Pirani in Kurd area of eastern Turkey, also Independence war of Indonesia under mostly Shaykhs who practice sufism. . Sufism teaches to follow the shari'ah not just formally, instead with more into being grateful and love connection to Allah. That is why to discipline our qolb (heart-brain consciousness) is the path of sufism teach. They do not force other to follow God orders by merely performing an act. Growing ones' counsciousness toward our need to God and how to bestow our best to God's way is much more encouraged. . My GrandPa and Ma both belong to Naqsabandi order. My GrandPa went to jihad call to push Netherland (and Allies) from Indonesia. Now still living, 97 years old, still praying and fasting during ramadan. No one except God can push him to "just" pay the 'fidya', a fasting-compensation. They seems very happy, living in a very 'poor' looking bamboo house in East Java. Love your contents here. Thank you!

I agree. That’s the problem with the way Salafis tend to present Sufi practices. As if all of them do not follow sharia and just dance around in mazars. Whereas the spread of Islam by large numbers happened at the hands of Sufis and they were at the forefront of many social and political movements. The first anti colonial uprise in Indian subcontinent was started by one Sufi leader and one Hindu spiritual guru who actively took up arms to fight the British colonizers. There are many more such instances. Unfortunately, the wahabis and salafis draw a picture of the Sufis that make them look like lunatics and paint themselves as logical modern monotheists. Which is ironic considering Sufism dates waaay back even before Ibn Taymiyah was even born. Anyway, I appreciate your comment, thank you.

A good video, and the stuff said here is generally true. There are numerous claims that aren't specifically true however. Lots of Naqshabandis engage in loud zikr for example, even with musical dhaff instruments. The Naqshabandi Order also places great emphasis on following a single living Shaykh, and the Shaykh decides according to circumstances whether to engage in loud or silent zikr. If loud zikr begins to serve ones own pride and ego, then the Shaykh commands silent zikr. If the silent zikr serves pride and ego, then loud zikr is practiced. The key is to combat the ego and different cultures express pride and arrogance either loudly or silently, and the form of zikr is to counter that. There are 41 Sufi Orders, with 40 stemming from Ali and one from Abu Bakr. The Naqshabandis recognise this and generally do not really consider themselves any more orthodox than other orders. What they are highly critical of however, are people who ONLY embrace sufi practices while neglecting Shariah, like people who like sufi music and song or poetry, but do not pray 5 times daily like how Islamic shariah law stipulates. This is because it amounts to another ego-serving pursuit of picking the parts of Islam one likes and neglecting and ignoring other essential and often more important parts.

Aghrr the ego! After years of doing the work as honestly and earnestly as i could (although at times i was very lazy), I would now say that there are no specific rules, be it loud or silent dhikr, because "one technique would supposedly tease the ego", which is what we want to watch in ourselves. If all roads lead to Rome, likewise all techniques lead to God and it really does not matter if a person has a big ego, or enjoys the sound of his/her own voice or likes to show off, because it is important to experience the ego and recognise it in order to reach self-knowledge and the divine qualities as well as realise the ultimate, ie. 'there is no other God but God' (La ilaha illallah), which is tantamount to saying that All that Is is God. In my personal experience, it takes a long time to understand all the tricks of one's ego and arrogance, and the essential ingredient is sincerity, courage and honesty with oneself to look at one's shadow self. Rules are always a frame supposed to have a deeper meaning, but they can also be a distraction from the goal because focusing too much on the form can stop the flow and experience with God. This is why I cannot and could not adhere to the Naqshbandi tariqa or other similar turuq.
@ahmyk91902 жыл бұрын
@@latifa1310 interesting take, what tariqa do you adhere to now?
@latifa13102 жыл бұрын
@@ahmyk9190 I do not adhere to a tariqa anymore but used to follow a Mevlevi tariqa which I left because it no longer resonated due to the dysfunctionality of its people who I feel did/do not understand the true meaning of Service to others ('Khidma'). However I will always be grateful to all the spiritual gifts and experiences I received and to the inner beauty I saw in most of its people even though many of them were dysfunctional. I liked the fact that men and women are mixed, but that's personal to me and I respect women who prefer their own intimacy together with other women only. I visited some other tariqat but they resonated even less with me. I do not have a sheikh or sheikha but I met a true sheikh who does not call himself a sheikh. We all need a sheikh to start with and the different styles of Shuyukh correspond to the multiple types of personalities. But at some point we understand that everybody is our sheikh in that everybody is a messenger of God and is a reflection of our self and a mirror, as such if we are truly honest with ourselves, we know what we need to work on. I learned to be very attentive to the messages I hear or see because within these, there is a lesson for me or some gift from God. When I need help with something specific, I ask God and the answer comes either in a dream, as a thought (inner message) or through someone, or a video, etc...God is my ultimate guide and his path is my tariqa...a rocky path but worth it.

This is a superbly made academic introduction to one of the most vibrant and historically influential Sufi orders. From its foundational inception in the late fourteenth century with its unique Golden Chain tracing to Abu Bakr, to what has often been characterised as a degree of political and polemical competitiveness toward other Sunni Sufi orders as well as Shi'as, you have deftly and delicately covered Naqshbandi history, unique self-identity as "orthodox Sunni Sufis", praxis, and outlook. I hope you will perhaps do other presentations for the Shadhili, Chisti, and Qadiri orders, as well as the Safavi and Bektashi. You are to be commended! As a student of Dr Chittick and a lifelong student of comparative religion and intellectual history, I was particularly gratified to see how you delicately handed Sh. Ahmad Sirhindi's perhaps well-intentioned misunderstanding of Ibn 'Arabi. My best wishes for your continued success, Filip! It is a joy to have found your channel. Yourself is still jahil with your own life on earth. So how can it be possible for you to know and to understand the life in the hereafter? There will be no peace on earth until you realize your own insignificance and it is your imagined self-importance that led to the downfall of your religion. People have gradually been moving away from a superstitious mindset, a primitive dependence on metaphors like Heaven and Hell and into a mature realization that the reality the five senses is the only reality. You are adult and should act and think like adult.

@ Who do you think you are, to talk to me in such a manner. I didn't address you first of all, nor have I "shoved my religion" down your throat. I have witnessed events in my life that have led my certitude that Islâm is True. What do you know about me or the things I have seen? And then you go on and ramble about how their would be peace until we realise our "insignificance". First of all, no human is insignificant to begin with. Secondly, Muslims have been martyred in the name of secularism and other ideologies and you're trying teach us about peace? Even now as I'm writing this there are Muslim Uyghurs in concentration camps being pressured to denounce their Faith. "People have moving away from a superstitious mindset , a primitive dependence on metaphors like Heaven and Hell into a mature realisation that there is no reality beyond the 5 senses". What an arrogant outlook. People have simply abandoned their former Faiths in favour of Empiricism and Darwinist Evolutionism. There's nothing "mature" about that. Who are you to say that being an adult means being an atheist? Are you too dukn to realise that throughout history adult humans have believed in religions until recently? And you're acting all of a sudden as if you figured everything out. If so, then please answer this. What brought everything untk existence. You cannot answer this with your 5 senses, so don't try to act smart with me.

@ "Thousands of religious followers have claimed and witnessed the same events" I haven't even told you the things I have witnessed and yet you act as if you've been told by followers of other faiths. And if rather the case, why should it be relevant to me? Whatever they claim to have been subjected to can never serve as proof for me. "...as how thousands of Muslims can do brutal things each year or month, while billions of others like yourself never seen bothered about it." Firstly, you who are you to say that we dont seem bothered by it. Muslims are the number one victim of terror attacks. People like me (Sufis) are especially targeted. Thirdly, most Muslims condemn the attacks unlike some very few. I know the Ummah better than you do as I am a part of it. Thirdly, I'd like to see the statistics proving that they number up to thousands. Now to answer your foolish rant about how I can believe that Islam is the Ultimate Truth and how Islam will changes and blah,blah. What I believe has nothing to do with you and you have no right to come to me and disrespect me like that. And who told you that Islâm is changing? Where is the change? Stop talking about things that you don't know of. If I feel in my heart that this is the Truth then who are you to try to ridicule me for it. You are blind and arrogant that is the problem. Now you keep implying that Islam is not the Truth but are you even searching for the Truth? Have you ever asked God to prove Himself to you, or asked Him to guide you? Watch yourself first and stop being arrogant.
@MB-tb6jy4 жыл бұрын
@ "If you are a real Muslim you shouldn't have denied this and considering that this religion is not entitled to equal respect or acceptance." I don't deny terrorist attacks. And I am not responsible for them. Why should the entire religion be to blame, when the very same religion prohibits murder? Why should all Muslims be to blame when these actions are carried out by a minority out of a minority sect, which good deviant views? Of course Islam is entitled to respect and acceptance. It isn't up to you to decide. A decent human being doesn't discriminate others based on stereotypes. "Now, let me know your biggest misconceptions propagated about your new like of Islam." It is not a "new kind" of Islam. And for you to think that you will somehow refute the our perceptions surrounding our Prophet (Salla Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallama) using our early scholars. The subject has been much sidelined from mainstream Islam in later centuries. It was a mainstream Islam in the spiritual revival in the middle ages. In fact almost all Islamic scholars and ulema were Sufis then. But as the nation states were formed, their role was sidelined by the fuqaha ulemas who serve the state. Modern secular education sideline the Sufis further and thus knowledge on Sufism becomes more rare. It now becomes exotic since a lot of people are seekers for inner self, after they are illusioned with the modern way of life. Majority of Muslims have very little awareness on the subject.

It used to be the norm for a learned Sunni to follow one school of Kelam, one school of Fiqh and one School of Tasawwuf/Sufizm. For example, many Ottoman Sultans chose to be Maturidi in Kelam, Hanafi in Fiqh and Naqshbandi in Tasawwuf. The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan is actually a follower of the Naqshbandi Tariqa, and obviously also Hanafi and Maturidi as his "Ottoman forefathers". I am from Albania, a country where Islam cam through the Ottomans and it was quite common, that alongside the standard Hanafi+Maturidi combination of the Empire, to choose whatever Sufi Tariqa one would prefer (Riffai, Naqshbandi, Halwati etc) However, one Tariqa, the Bektashi Tariqa is a special one, as it is seen as a separate religion. They describe themselves as Twelver Alevite Shiites. They don't consider the five daily prayers to be obligatory, they cosider alcohol or pork t5 be permissibe, but they consider rabbit to be forbidden. Men and women worship together and their clerics (Dervishes, Baba, Dede or Kryegjysh) remain celibate. They do go in Hajj and many of them hold proudly the title Hajji, but their main pilgrimage is one done at the Tomorri Mountain (probably an old holy site of the pre-christian pagan religion of Albania and Illyria) which Bektashis believe to be the place where Abbas Ali fled to by miracle during the Battle of Karbala. I highly suggest you discover the Bektashi. There's many documentaries and material in Albanian which I am willing to translate for you, if you are interested.

@DarioHaruni4 жыл бұрын
@@testtester6520 Aleikum Selam brother. I don't know much about him to be honest. But just because he is Albanian it doesn't mean I would have a good opinion about him. All I know is that I don't like that kind of Ahl Al-Hadith Salafi attitude towards Islam. It's as if the Qur'an is not enough for these people and it's the hadith that will "complete" it - we just have to find the ones with "sahih" chains. This has made the hadith collections a form of "The Gospel according to Bukhari" or "The Gospel according to Muslim". The Maliki Madhhab is the number one enemy for Ahl Al Hadith, because Imam Malik, in his Muwatta narrated hadiths with Sahih chains but he refused to act upon them because the living Sunnah passed by practice was more important to him than narrations passed by word of mouth. Anyway, Al Albani has given his contribution, so may Allah reward him. I may disagree with many of his teachings and beliefs but I don't strip people off of their merit.

You clearly do not know how Islam spread in Balkan region. Have you heard Seyit Ali Sultan, Sarı Saltuk and Hasan Dede, Gül Baba?. These are Bektashi masters and Alp-erens that spread islam in Balkans which taught tolerance and love instead of fear and religious bigotry. Many Christians converted seeing their love and peace. Their path is to be cherished rather critized. Hunkar Hadji Bektash Veli (k.s.) is a true friend of the God. Naqshbandis were not widespread in Anatolia and Balkans until the 19th century (the great Janissary masssacre). Unfortunately they have very powerful political organisations and commuting many crimes in the name of Islam.

Competing Naqshbandi sects fought in different parts of China, mostly in Ningxia, Gangsu and Qinqai, home to Hui (ethnically Chinese) Muslims. There were actually several wars between two rival Naqshbandi factions, the Khafiyya (Silent ones because their dhikr was silent) and the Jahriyya (who did dhikr out loud). These wars, known as the Dungan Revolts, actually killed several hundreds of thousands of Muslims. And during one of these wars, the ruler of Xingjiang actually declared a jihad against Hui Muslims and invaded other regions of China.

The interesting thing about this fight which end up in killing, if my knowledge is sufficient, it involved the “Sheikh”who’s simply a bloodline descendant of the Sheikhs, the “sheikh “ is even a member of the communist party who’s suppose to be irreligious. In other word, this fight is carried on in post-religious manner.

The frustrating irony over the unity of being/existence, is that la ilaha illa'llah means this. Tawhid. Oneness of God. God is al-Haqq. Haqiqa is the same. "All things perish but the face of Allah" (Surah 28:88) "he is the first and the last, the manifest and the hidden and he is to all things the knower" (Surah 57:3) This stuff is all throughout the Qur'an because it is what Tawhid actually means.

Tawhid may mean that God is one. But do not forget we are being tested with duality. If one thinks freedom is given through the nafs ego and that one can become enlightened through partnering and following ones desire they will find nothing but dead ends. Shaytans biggest trick is that humans believe it to be a servant of God they can trust. "Have you seen those who make a god of their desires?" This is the most difficult part of our spiritual growth that we must struggle with the ego in a fight to the dieing before we die, and only the can we see the difference between shadow and reality. May Allah Azza Wa Jalla bless you and guide us always to the straight path.

I am a mureed of Sheikh Zulfiqar Ahmad DB of the Naqshbandi mujjadidi order and I have read some "maktoobat" of Sheikh Ahmed Sirhindi R.H and I was actually impressed by your knowledge about his teachings. His son Sheikh Masoom R.H also followed on his path and said that the Sufi who resort of the unlawful of the Shariah are actually trying to fill a void created by the lack of "ecstasy" in zikr after reaching a certain "maqam" and not realizing that no healing can be obtained from haram acts eg: dancing, singing etc. The cure to all of this is an early correction in the "niyyah" that abidance to Shariah is paramount and all other things come secondarily as a part of Allah's rehmat and all secondary things do not collectively amount to even a single ruling of the Shariah. As our Sheikh Zulfiqar says: "Become Abdul Lateef, not Abdul Lutf"
