Sadly this man spoke yet didn’t hit the roots. Re is “better” than ever for a fan but “the worse” for a purist. Because ever since Re7 came out… RE BECAME COD! RE has been giving us “new content” every year since 2017! Re7 saved the public image of Re. It carried the TRUE SOUL OF RE. The “gameplay soul” of having a map to explore that becomes more traversable with time (old re) and the soul of modern RE with combat that rewarded precision (shot head for more damage. Shot limbs to disable). And it carried the LORE. Re is about EXPERIMENTS! We are always fighting BOWs. And Re7 was no different. Both Re7 and even 8 ended with a “revelations lab”. Re7 with the explanation of hallucination mushrooms of the E-series. And 8 connecting the origin of the mole and its first scientist with Spencer, one of the founders of Umbrella, with the symbol of the Lords being the inspiration of the name “Umbrella”, connecting the weird village of Wolfs with the main story of Re. If anything, I can’t help but applaud Re8. Gamers love to speak in the internet. But what they buy isn’t equal to what they say. Re8 was pure “derivative” originality. A story that was unreal. Something that isn’t meant to be predicted. Turning RE into some “boss fighter” game. Meanwhile they are also doing what gamers “SAY” they hate. It is common to see gamers “hate on remakes”. Yet enter the Re community for 2 seconds and the main discussion is “which game will be remade next?”. Re5 being the most logical with Re4. Re CVX being the game that needed a remake the most. Way more than RE4 and I stand by that on an artistic point of view… but money wins and RE4 is the best thing since oxygen. The we got Re0… people like to talk like they have played Re0. And finally Re1. Despite having a perfectly playable Remake already, asking for another Re1 is proof that the truest face of Re isn’t the original 3 but the easy to pick up non-fixed camera gameplay.

If you really noticed they took the UNiversal monsters as an inspiration. LAdy D is Dracula and instead of his 3 brides its 3 daughters. You have Werewolves and Wolfman types. You have Dr. Moreau who then turns into The Creature From The Black Lagoon. Then you have Heisenburg as the Dr Frankenstein making Frankenstein monsters with Magneto powers. The Beneviento House is like The Haunting. It felt more like Castlevania more than Resident Evil in those aspects. And MOther Miranda seems more of 2 characters, One is Baba Yaga and the other as the saint Mother Mary. imo.

I feel like Village lacks focus. 7 had was very focused on a specific story and cast while Village leaves you thinking "that's it?!" every time you beat a level. I liked Beneviento but it was too short. It should have been a full horror game on it's own. I liked Castle Dimitrescu but it was way too short for what i looks like from a distance (and the marketing). The rest just sucks honestly. If it was just Dimitrescu and Beneviento and they expanded on that I would have probably liked it a lot more. Now it's just mid. It's like Tiktok where you watch short, shallow videos instead of something more serious.

For me the lack of connections that have a meaningful impact to the mainline series and jarring story scenarios really held Village back from being great, The lack of explanation of Chris’s journey and putting together the hound wolf squad, and bosses like Angie and Heisenberg were a let down as far as set up and pay off and the revelations of the BSAA using bows now needs to be addressed because if it’s set up and not really delved into in 9 then it’ll really hurt VILLAGES story. But for me the biggest issue with RE 8 is this…..The Albert 01R sucks in this game!, seriously how did it go from the most op weapon in the game to a peashooter in 8?, and not to mention do you got the deluxe edition of Village and got the Albert you can’t even upgrade it!, (Sorry I had to get that out of my system). Overall I liked 8 I didn’t absolutely love it but I also don’t hate it.

Actually I have one more critique and it again concerns Chris, now from the reveal trailer I was hooked, his new character design, the darker tone everything I was interested to see where they could’ve taken it, questions like, (Why did he shoot Mia in cold blood?, why does he purposefully keep Ethan in the dark??), I was hoping to see a new and interesting route for Chris’s character that didn’t just hastily put on “oh he’s and alcoholic who conveniently gets amnesia” bs that 6 pulled. Ultimately when it was revealed that the Mia Chris shot was just Miranda, I was incredibly disappointed like come on that was such an interesting set up and it just feels like cheating, like they weren’t sure if they wanted to really put Chris in a morally dark position so they tried to have their cake and eat it too by having Mia be an imposter at the beginning. Imagine the possibilities character wise they could’ve taken Chris if he really did kill Mia , The discussions and possible set up’s for 9 just feels like a missed opportunity to me and still not delving into Chris’s recent alignment with Blue Umbrella still leaves me with more questions than answers.

Actually if you’re curious I thought 7 was perfectly fine actually, (Now I have my own critiques of it but that would take hours to flesh out), but I thought 7 was a fine addition to the game series that yes while it had lose connections to the series and (yes I’m not a fan of Chris redesign either), I thought his inclusion was a pretty much the writers saying, (yes this game is part of the RE series and this confirms it) plus with 7’s success and with the sequels surely to be made, I was ok with Chris’s limited screen time, If it meant they had plans for further developing him in future installments, well if 9 does come out next year I’ll have more to say but in short I thought RE 7 Chris was fine, (yeah not the most dramatic opinion of 7).

Im in the same boat. What I liked about RE8 was simply gameplay and graphics but I think the Ethan story should have wrapped with RE7. My other Problem is Lady D was built up as a main antagonist and yet she is the first one you kill. Not only that, The Spencer Mansion had so much character and you could find many things within the mansion to its lore and mystery whereas Castle D felt lack luster in lore and mystery. It's as if Spencer Mansion is smaller in comparison but larger in content and Castle D Is larger in comparison but smaller in content. I could spend hours in Spencer Mansion finding all the paintings, memos, journos, esoteric links and messages with its symbolism compared to Castle D.

I feel like I need to make a video detailing everything wrong with Village. It just feels like a disaster from beginning to end. Its devastating because the gameplay and story had promise, but neither one is any good (yes even the gameplay has its problems). It feels like it has no cohesive vision and was the product of too many cooks, none of which were capable of making a good product in the first place. Village makes me appreciate 7 far more than I thought possible (I initially disliked that game because only about 10-20% of it is any good, but the 20% is amazing compared to anything in Village). When 7 came out, it felt like a tech demo that held a lot of promise for a future 10/10 game, but wasn't enough on its own to be good (and has a lot holding it back as well). But 2 Remake felt like they finally started to understand the series again (admittedly it was lacking content and the tone and story wasn't quite there yet). So to have Village and 3 REmake come out back to back was disastrous. its incredible the goodwill fans had for the series for so long. I'm glad people are starting to see how bad these games are (or being more open about it because you had no chance to speak the truth when the games were still new because you'd have a lot of coping fans jumping down your throat for not praising it).

I completely disagree about Chris. He's always been self sacrificing since the series started. He's guarded when it comes to what's he's up to to try and keep other people safe, which never works out. Chris's diary is a good example of that, and Code Veronica as a whole. Chris is pretty consistent to me, you also have Resident Evil 6. He's pretty much always has been the same. I also feel like the doll house was boring, and if I had to pick between RE7 and Village, I'll always go with village because it's enemy variety is boring. Miranda inspired Spencer to do everything he's done since the start of the series, and she recused him during a snow trip with his friends, James Marcus and what not. He was inspired by her experiments to bring back her and decided to go on a venture to create a new world

I felt like way too much was left out and too many loose ends. Just wasn't happy with them. But I loved the aesthetics of Village. I think Chris looks better than ever. Third person on Chris's campaign was the best. Really my only main complaint of village was the characters were so much less memorable than the Baker family and the Baker family actually had a WAY smaller roll than the baddies in Village. I could go on forever, but I loved Village. Wasn't a huge fan of 7. I actually just beat it for the first time with NOT a Hero and End of Zoe tonight since launch. I want to see the main characters again though. I want Chris and Leon and Barry to be in a game together. The original trilogy people all together.

The actual game itself was depressingly a disappointment as much as I tried to ignore it and pretend it was better than it actually was at the time, exactly like I did with Re6 because we were in the dark ages and I pretended any RE content was better than none. And ESPECIALLY after RE4R was released, Village was completely blown out of the water for basically being a “spiritual successor” to RE4. Also the marketing material for both RE6 and Village was slightly misleading with the story and characters, and the hype with certain elements. (Such as Re6 having focus on the internal battle between Leon and Chris, and in Village, Chris being the cover image and Lady D being the centerfold of every image and video). We need a main villain again. They actually had a good thing going with Simmons and “The Organization” aka the Illuminati, and even slightly Alex Wesker. But they just kill off every good villain in every entry and start fresh every single game. It’s tiring and doesn’t give the same payoff as the older entries or even RE4. If you kill off a good villain, at least have a good plot line to keep the story moving forward. Damn I needed this rant..

It's funny seeing people who're used to say "it's only good cuz of nostalgia" getting told by the same thing by even newer fans. It's only capcom's fault that we have to debate what resident evil really is.

Tbh i think re8 was a stumble after re7. Re8 was actually made to be less scary ( correct me if im wrong but there’s a quote from a interview).. re7 ´s horror was a tribute to horror movies like the evil dead Texas chainsaw massacre the omen saw etc while hitting classical survival horror elements While not as bad resident evil 4 ( ´masterpiece action game changer gamin foreva n blah blah blah’ yes I know , but it’s not a very good re and ruined the ip for years) it’s definitely a massive step towards action again away from horror/puzzles/ item n save dilemmas and I don’t no why Capcom keeps pushing this.. still the game isn’t as exhausting as re 4 ( heck by the time I hit the castles it’s like I’ve killed 1000 enemies) but it’s Dam close sometimes ie the fortress I actually think re7s gameplay is much better and is one of best examples of survival horror since remake- re2 remake hadn’t come out yet - ( re8 only enemy design is better, but the gameplay loop of re7 is great survival horror with maybe more intense ammo/health management then any other re n less complicated puzzles sadly) … if you play madhouse without using dumb stuff like Albert circular saw etc ( it’s the only true way to play the game just like akumu mode in the evil within its a entirely different game ) your massively encouraged to actually run/avoid enemies and actually kill maybe 10 entire run ( 4 fat molds and a bunch of 4 legs) just like old resident evil. Heck even more so . Just needed more difficult puzzles and possibly a 3rd person cam but I’m fine 1st person here n there

Village is a good game but not a good Resident Evil. I saw both 7 and 8 as tech demonstrations for the remake titles. Great gameplay and improvements. Atmosphere and the enemies i thought was a nice touch. The story was not great, given the issues people had with the Winters family. Village always felt off, and bringing back Evelyn was a huge annoyance for me. Never liked the character and I wanted her just gone for good. 7 and 8 are more experimental than story. Thats how I see it.

@@erickhaviland7097 the speech of the saddest corners of the RE community. “It’s not a good RE”. Re is too big. Original fixed camera is completely gone. But we left with an amazing trilogy. And RE3 was hated back in the day so people forget that the last game sucked… but this is pre-internet obsession. Then we got the 3rd person games. RE4 is the face of the series. Re5 is a benchmark of couch coop games… and the biggest victim of those dumb words “not a good RE”. Re6 is just like RE3. It was a bad game. And because the internet was more mature it is forever remember as such. In fact the story was so big, I can guarantee we will never get *4 campaigns in 1 game* again. Truly a game that is the argument of the scope being TOO BIG. Now we are in a new era. In this era they actually managed to have 2 lines of RE. Main RE is 1st person games and it is very possible that RE9 will be the last (and if you noticed the pattern. It might be a “scary” game to make). And the second line of games are remakes that are Re4 clones with modern graphics. Which is funny because Re4 Remake became the main face of RE again. But again. The internet people are funny. Because the “isn’t a great RE game” was a disease born from the 2 Re4 haters from the early social media days.
@erickhaviland70977 күн бұрын
@josetomascamposrobledano4618 I get what your saying. Having played many of the mainline and remakes, I enjoyed them for the most part. I'm not following the internet trend to be honest about what's a bad RE. 6 was something that was really too much all at once based on development. There was enough story for multiple games and that development would have taken longer. Was 6 bashed? Yeah, but not all of it was terrible. It had tense moments, an interesting story but it was too much all at once and not enough time to fine tune the game. To get more of it you had to unlock the files to expand the story. Nothing against reading but that I didn't sit with me. Finding said files along the way was part of fun. As for the remakes, nothing against either classic or the updates. Each have their own pros and cons. Even the heavilly bashed RE3 remake was still fun to play cause it had its own spin on the classic. Nemesis was a significant threat again. RE2 remake did clean up the story but at a cost of which continuity should the player go with. The atmosphere of 2 scares me even now cause it was dialed up to 11. The modern remakes enhanced the scares, horror and lore while respecting the classics (for the most part) I'd still play the classics too even if the tank controls were the scariest thing about them. But there are similarities with all of them, that being 4's style. RE4 was both a blessing and a curse cause of how it set the bar. Both 4 and it's remake are fun but over-rated in my opinion. I just never grasped onto 7 or 8 that much cause some things with the story just didn't sit well. Both of them did return to form by returning the series to its style of atmosphere, horror and that looming dread. That's what won me over with RE. It has a style that works when all the cards are right. 7 and 8 aren't my favorite RE games but the scares and horror I enjoyed. 6 though flawed has some redeeming factors. That's just a personal opinion, I still like them but 7 and 8 just didn't tie in well with the established lore. 6 had many corners cut cause of it being rushed, but the lore was there but it was meant for multiple games rather than 1. As for 9, we'll see what happens. As for the internet trend, not my thing to be honest. Lol

@@erickhaviland7097 you have a very particular opinion. I’ll give you that. To see beauty in every game yet point to 7-8 as the ones that might require a “course correction”. I will applaud you on saving Re6 and Remake 3. I did mention the “trends” in my original comment, but maybe I didn’t share enough of myself. I respect Re6 for being bloated. In practice it means that I never touch it and appreciate it giving us 7 as a result. But in an economic sense there will never be another game like Re6. A liner fun game that has the length of these Open World time wasters. As for Remake 3. That game is great and the hatred was expected because of depressed people during quarantine. Like sure it is “the worst among the remakes”. But it’s “speedrun friendly design” turned it into one of the most replayable games. As in you can leave the game for an entire year. Get that “itch” and play the game 1-2 times and have great fun that doesn’t overstay its welcome. And as someone who likes “mastery”. Remake 3’s dodge was a lot more important than Remake 4’s parry. Since Remake 3’s dodge is needed for survival on high difficulty like Inferno. While Remake 4’s parry was a waste of resource since it took away from knife durability. So anyway. Thanks for your reply. I really enjoy seeing/reading a unique opinion. Would it be wrong of me to assume that the issues of 7-8 go beyond story and are actually in part because of the first person. The few times I heard opinions like this they usually mention hate towards first person and general and actually praise Re8 for adding a 3rd person mode.

@@josetomascamposrobledano4618 my pleasure. That's a good question. I might be the minority, but first person to me added to the horror and tension. I never had issues about first person as you don't know what's behind you or side to side unless you turn around and risk being attacked. Adding third person to 8 on the other hand I thought it took away from the tension as you can see your character and a wider range due to the camera. Plus Ethan turning away from the camera and never showing the guy himself...I think adding third person was interesting on paper but still keeping to the trope with Ethan was unnecessary. One thing about 7 and 8 that is a major redeeming factor I can add. I could place myself in the game while ignoring the fact your playing as Ethan. That's the fun thing about first person, if you don't like the character, place yourself in the game. Be a random agent or an outsider looking for a kidnapped baby or missing person. That's one big thing why I didn't write off 7 and 8. First person actually helped with the illusion of placing the player into the shoes of a Resident Evil scenario. I think that's what Capcom was going for. But I would have wanted an option to create a character and go along the story as an unknown agent from BSAA, Terra Save, DSO, or even Blue Umbrella. But establishing Ethan as a player and the Winters family kinda soured the potential of that. I could give him a pass in 7 for as it was something new. I would've been fine if he was killed off the beginning of 8 to be honest. Only to find out later he was undead and a boss you had to fight. Not many people would've liked the idea, but a first person RE where the character is an unknown would have been a welcomed experience for me. Become the hero of a Resident Evil game. And if one of our heroes are in the game and you play as them in first person, thats cool too. It doesn't have to be complicated. The agents name could be redacted in files of future games while acknowledging that the previous titles did take place. The agent died stopping Mother Miranda while saving little Rose and (much as I couldn't stand her) Mia being saved by Chris and his team. A first person RE game can and could work in my opinion.

Hey, watched the video, first time watching you but it caught ny eye cause of the controversial title, since I and a lot of people loved Re village. I was very curious to hear your criticisms but, to be frank, I couldn't quite understand why you didn't like the game. The only things I could gather were that you didn't like the story and that it had vampires and werewolves, which for some reason you didn't like. You also said something that hit quite wrong with me, you implied that only people who played 7 as their first in the series would like village. I don't know how you came to this conclusion, but thats certainly not true. I, for example, have played every resident evil game except 6, revelations 2 and umbrella chronicles 2. In fact I played almsot every one of these games when they came out, with the exception of code Veronica because nobody owned a Dreamcast. I honestly dont know what you would expect from the series. To keep tank controls and fixed cameras? To use only zombies as enemies? (something that the series has never done). Resident Evil was never just a game about mansions and zombies. It was the video game adaptation of classic horror movies (whether they are from the 80s or even older). Zombies and closed spaces was all that could be done with the technology when the first game came out. Even then they managed to fit in giant sharks and snakes and even man-eating plants! For me, what the series is trying to do is represented perfectly by the opening cinematic of the first game. Try to make you feel like you are playing a low budget, campy as heck horror movie. Re village does that perfectly. Ethan has one-liners that would make Ash from the evil dead jealous. He also suffers so much stuff and survives like nothing happened, just like Ash. He even got a chainsaw arm for a bit! All the other stuff is classic horror movie homeages. The wolfman, the creature from the black lagoon, Dracula, Frankenstein. All these make resident evil 8 one of the best in the series for me, giving me exactly what I wanted from a resident evil game. Im sorry but I think you dont really like this series. I believe you sre stuck in a memory and clouded by nostalgia. Of course that is not a bad thing, nobody had to like the same things. But please don't pretend that you somehow are the original fan and that people who like the latest games aren't.

To me resident evil code veronica x resident evil 2, 3 resident evil 4 and resident evil umbrella chronicle were the best resident evil games, 5 could had been better if they made it dark grittier and didn't kill wesker like that

I think Village is the worst RE there is. 6 was better, however its right behind Village, however story wise resident evil it's horrible but at least i had fun with the gameplay and coop with my friends. But Village .... is horrible with the gameplay and it was just not fun.

Village & R6 are the worst two games in the series. Ethan Winters is easily the worst RE protagonist and Village is extremely underwhelming.

Imo village is one of the worst RE titles, they jumped the shark in so so many ways and if it's true they're carrying on the whole megamycete nonsense in RE9 then i really have little interest in that unfortunately.
