No matter how old he gets, he still has that child like nervous energy. Still today when he does interviews, it’s the same. Definitely somebody who’s never really let fame go to his head. he walks around New York with a jar of pickles and is happy as can be. doesn’t mind conversations with total strangers. A great example of staying the person you are, no matter what riches life brings you. Very tough to do in Hollywood. which is probably why he lives in New York.

Hey Dave, I’m sure you don’t read these but perhaps one of your staff will pass it on because I think you would get a kick out of it. Your show would come on the day after it aired on one of our Canadian channels at 5:00 pm. My twin boys were only 2 years old at the time and at 5:00 I announced, “Dave’s on!”, and we would pile into our big armchair and watch. My husband worked away in the oilfield at the time and would be away for 3 weeks out of every month. One time, the twins and I were visiting him on location and he happened to have a catalogue there. We were flipping through the pages and every time we saw a blonde lady they would point and say “Mom!”. We came to a page that had a man in a suit and tie and they pointed and said, “Dave!”. We eventually put the catalogue away and the boys went off to play in the next room. As soon as they were out of the room, my husband looks at me and says, “Who the f#@k is Dave?!”. He didn’t believe me at first when I told him it was David Letterman. I had to call the kids back into the room and ask “Where’s Dave?”. They both immediately looked at the TV. I was off the hook 😆 I did a quick edit of my grammar…you’re changed to your and I added our to Canadian channels to make it more readable. Story is absolutely the same.
