TET - COM It’s very true, the Late Night show was a staple in comedy for years. Both Letterman and Conan loved the show and the legacy. Johnny Carson was a mentor to both Jay Leno and David Letterman and although Jay stole the show from Letterman it was no secret that Letterman was his pick, his heir. Jay Leno again weaseled his way back into the Tonight show and practically stole the show from Conan. Letterman and Howard Stern were front line defenders for Conan and even Jimmy Kimmel took a few swings at Jay Leno. Conan is definitely Letterman’s pick for Johnny Carson’s legacy, the heir.

You can see Letterman is Jimmys idol. Much respect there. Jimmy never interrupts Dave out of that respect. Plus, he is a big fan of Dave and wants to listen to the legend just like the rest of us. Dave doesn’t disappoint.

that's global sales and internet expansion. Just look at the salaries lately, whether it's the BBC, Netflix or Amazon prime. They all hand out millions, either to hosts, or the production of the show itself. They are trying to reel people in. In 6 years, Netflix has gone from 22 million to over a 100 million subscribers. That's a lot of cash. Amazon generates 6.4 billion a year now. BBC does about 5 billion. 2 million is what a quarter is to you, or me (I assume your not filthy rich). Because giving 2 million to something is actually insane... It's going the way soccer has been for a long time: A few people earn more than 90% on the planet. It just shows that apparently, entertainment is a lot more important than having serious elections, or solving world hunger, curing disease. Those have to settle for scraps.

I'll never forget when GE bought NBC, and Letterman took a camera crew to GE to give them a fruit basket and welcome them into the NBC family...and they called security on him and kicked him out (all the while he complimented them and welcomed them and TRIED TRIED TRIED to give them the fruit basket he had brought). It was one of the most hilarious things I've ever seen on tv.

Each talk show host has their schtick, its what makes them unique. I like jimmy fallon. he does have moments where you kind of raise an eyebrow but it’s entertainment in the end and not to be taken so seriously. Having said that, Dave’s comedy was effortless and natural, that’s what made him so great too.

What a refreshingly positive, and true comment! :) I agree! I have a lot of respect for these people who work hard to achieve their goals, and are kind to others! And also, it is so true that these things aren't meant to be taken so seriously! life is goofy, and silly, and absurd, and comedic, and it is good to embrace this, and laugh about it, and to have fun! :) :) :)
