Fan Friday Request:
"Hi,
I remember watching a snippet a while back of David Letterman's interview with Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer. All of Dakota's other interviews he seemed so broken up about the situation that led to him receiving the medal of honor. It was nice to see David Letterman put Dakota at ease and let him joke around a bit. I was wondering if you could post that video?
Thank you very much,
Rebecca Ferrara"

He was so stiff when he first walked out, but then he was hilarious in the seat. Chatty and witty, until the 15:00 mark, when it turned really dark. Dave was slick, immediately changing the subject to something positive. Also, when a MoH recipient asks you to have a beer, you say yes, AND you buy the beer.

When he said "we'll leave it at that" Dave knew to steer that convo somewhere else immediately. He truly knows when to stop asking certain questions, and too many people today don't have that ability.

Good to hear you were treated kindly, sir. I was just old enough to have been in the first and last two draft "lotteries" (what a weird term, right?) and never got called, but I was trying in the meantime to sign on to the Navy and Coast Guard, uh....,no way. My oldest brother served in the USS Long Beach and Enterprise in Tonkin Gulf. My only claim to fame is that I wasn't going to claim 'CO', get fitted with braces, etc. nor run away to Canada. Big deal I know. And YES it was a shame the way returning Vets were treated or talked about by those of our own generation. Those were weird and unpleasant times, IMO. All the best.

I got to meet Dakota at an Associated General Contractor’s lunch. The room was kind of quiet, not everyone was familiar with him. He gave his talk and took questions and the room was quiet so I asked if he still greases his own Bobcat. Then he related the story about being on Letterman and got a few more laughs since it was construction related. I brought a poster with first day of issue Marine Corps stamps and asked him to sign it. He’s so humble he signed it really small so as not to cover any of the other pictures even though he belongs shoulder to shoulder with those Marines.
