I find it interesting in ep 1, he was hesitant, even adamant on not killing folks he directly knew (the high-school bully classmates), but in this one he immediately killed off any contacts he's met (the theif, con man, and the other business CEO dude)

exactlyyyy, he dies a little over halfway, but only by like a volume. It means that all the nuances that made the first half so good and are also in the second half to a degree in the manga, get totally removed. It makes near look real dumb.

What I thought was interesting was that when L was testing light a while back he asked Light if he would succeed him. And light basically said the exact same plan that he would end up going through with, he said that’s what Ryuzaki (L) was thinking would happen. Is that Light would regain his memory, kill L and take his place as the new L while being able to command the police. Even Matsuda says “Ryuzaki said it himself, you would be capable of succeeding him” But conveniently forgot the part where L said he would succeed him after successfully killing him..which ended up happening.

This is why Light asked them who should be L. He let THEM walk him into it. He even argued against it and they only pushed back even more on why he SHOULD be. So they would never consider that Light would kill L then become L if it was THEIR idea for him to be L in the first place (or so they think). That's why he misses L cause he wouldn't have let that slide.

I think the part that irks me the most is how nonchalant Light is about killing Wedy and Aiber. Sure, they were criminals, but just like with L, he interacted with them and they helped each other, and he doesn't even feel anything as he kills them. We've known since episode 1 Light is capable of being incredibly cruel, but it just reaches new heights with L's death.

He killed law enforcement that were after him and L, so I see no reason why he'd have any inhibitions about killing them. He also told Rem to give the Death Note to a greedy person, so he indirectly killed innocent people. It has literally never been about justice for Light; it's always been about satisfying his ego.

Also he does still stick by his idea of justice and to him anyone who tries to stop him is helping criminals. Not saying he's right but to say he doesn't care about justice would be a bit dishonest. You are somewhat right though cause if it was just about justice then he wouldn't make it a religion.Two things can be true at once, that he cares about justice AND wants to satisfy his ego.

But if the task force tries to ever contact Wedy and Aiber again to find out they both died of heart attacks only to have interacted with the task force, Light would be placed under more sus. ​@@billyburton123 Well like L said they both have never been caught so they wouldn't be well known, as for heart attacks besides Aiber who is a bit more uncertain Weby essentially died from a motorcycle accident so it's slightly more of a less obvious thing, as for contacting them again it's not like the task force has the money to employ them and they (namely the Chief) already had reservations about using criminals so unless they just happenstance to read their names in the obituaries it's rather unlikely they'd even know

I find the ideas in this last arc of the show really fascinating, with Kira basically becoming a cult leader on a global level, and discovering that L has successors who Light wasn't able to account for.

I just realized, when he killed the burgler and the conman hires, no one knew of their existence except for the task force. So if the task force ever tried to check up on them and found out they died of heart attacks, Light is screweeed. On the other hand if he let them live, maybe they would have told people light was the head suspect, but since they're mercenaries maybe not at the same time.

Two things: 1. Please watch Code Geass. It's another short series where even the handful of filler episodes serve a purpose. 2. I know you're much further ahead, but L didn't go to a school. They said in the newspaper that Watari used his money to open orphanages with his name, Wammy. This is where he finds L, shown in episode 25.

my theory with L having the text fail-safe was that he told the person that if he dies whoever is pretending to be him is Kira. I always found it weird that L told Light to pretend to be him if he died like it was basically giving the person that L suspected to be Kira exactly what he wanted. but is it was just to feed into Kira's ego and make him feel like he won and is now safe and now he's given a massive clue to whoever L really wanted to replace him.

I'm so overjoyed people are heavily requesting Code Geass after Death Note. It was such a classic during it's time but died down after many years and has been forgotten now. It's so difficult to get reaction channels to react to it because it's always beaten by newer shows. So glad this channel has a experienced anime following that's recommending good stuff.

Tomorrow is going to be a Pilot episode right? Super hyped. I hope it's either chainsaw man or Code Geass that's chosen. Chainsaw man is only 12 episodes so you'll be done in just over 2 months. Code Geass is a masterpiece that shouldn't be missed. Attack on titan, Deathnote, Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood, Code Geass and Vindland Saga are all top 10 anime

I always saw L as superior to Light. Light was no slouch but Montana said it best. L started with a blank puzzle. I never made that connection before. Lights would have eventually killed L either with eyes himself or most like Misa somehow. But light pretty much hit the lottery with Rem. The odds of a Shinigami developing such strong feelings for a human that puts herself in danger so easily. Let alone two of them doing it was like L getting hit by multiple bolts of lightning in the same spot.

Well, that was a nice show. Good thing it ended here. Kira got his new world, goth blond famous GF and everyone lived happily ever after. Light lived to old age into an utopic world and at the end of his married life with Misa, Ryuk wrote his name in the Death Note. How touching. It's a shame the series doesn't have the L funeral scene. You should search for it. (Unlike the Near/Mello hate-fiction, that one actually exists.)

I don't quite understand why you assumed that the place at the end of the episode was a school. Wammy's house really does not seem like a name for a school. Combined with the knowledge that Watari was an inventor that founded a bunch of orphanages around the world, it is safe to assume it's an orphanage. Probably a special one for gifted kids.

I think it's perfectly realistic Light has plenty of people to call up to be his friends. He is attractive, athletic, smart - people that don't like him probably want him as a connection plus he is so manipulative he can make each person feel like he cares & knows them in ways no one else can.

As a dub hater, Death Note's English dub is one of the greatest achievements of mankind. But, it's not perfect. It can't. It's not really the word you use when you throw away trash or something, it's more so the _metaphorical_ idea of casting something away. The reason why Light goes to where he is right now was because of the fact that he had stray from his own ideology for his own ego. If he didn't kill Lind L. Tailor because he was challenge (and he just think that is L - an innoncent detective, not a sinner), L will never be able to locate him, let alone investigating. If he didn't used the inmates as a test and messengers, L will not be able to figure out that he had access to the Police's information and conduct the spy-operation with the FBI. As a guy who "accepted the challenge" out of the feeling that his pride was being attacked, Light had done a lot of things that make the Kira case linked directly to his personal life and social identity, even allowed the Task Force and the U.S to gains information about the supernatural power that Kira use to kill people. I support the "Idea of Kira" as an ideology, but not Light as a person. A normal person could've done better than Light and won't even leave any evidence behind, because most people dont have such egoistical nature.
