@@stefjonno1 they're not underrated. they made it to the mainstream and mark king is absolutely in the top 10 most famous electric bass players until this day, after flea, paul mccartney, sting, ect, maybe even top 5. headhunters or yellowjackets (who have a similar style) probably have more original songs and overall better musicians than level 42 and sold a fraction compared to them, but even they are hardly underrated imo.

“And as I walk into the lonely afternoon, I feel sad enough, I feel bad enough, and all the times when you are lonely where you are, please don't hate me then I just could not pretend”. If a part of you is not torn up by listening to these lines, let alone the rest of this quiet masterpiece, then you don't have a pulse. This sublime song conveys all of the pent up emotion and bittersweet feelings left from a breakup with believable tenderness and maturity. Here is one emotional journey in music that stays with you. It adds a certain poignancy to the performance that neither Boon Gould (guitar) or his brother Phil Gould the drummer were present, having recently left the band. As far as I know there was no falling out, so it's puzzling (and sad), those two founder members with Mark King and Mike Lindup upped and left. Tragically Boon, who wrote the fantastic lyrics to this song, committed suicide in April 2019 aged 64, after suffering lifelong depression. God bless his soul, he left behind a beautiful legacy of unforgettable music.
@pauljohnson45392 ай бұрын
It was "a change in musical direction" , starting from the World Machine album a couple of years earlier, which brought about the Gould brothers' departure. And they had a point.

@@pauljohnson4539 Thank you for your insight. Who knows the personal dynamics which brought about the change in line-up. It must have been a deep and profound parting of the ways. "It's Over" I won't be here when you come home I'm sorry if you don't understand forgive me if you can But I can see another road And I ain't coming back Don't look for me around this town Cause I will be so far away you'll never find me anywhere And I won't take no souvenirs no perfume picture promises Because it's over And I ain't coming back You gave me everything And now I'm breaking your heart You know that I don't mean To tear your world apart I would never leave, if I thought you couldn't stand the pain A letter in hall, is written on the wall A letter with no words of love at all Because it's over (because it's over) And I ain't coming back And as I close the door I know I'm breaking your heart I should have loved you more Instead I've torn your world apart And as I walk into the lonely afternoon I feel sad enough, I feel bad enough And all the times when you are lonely where you are Please don't hate me then, I just could not pretend Oh, no Feel the tears I can feel the tears Running through the years Tears, feel the tears I can feel the tears Running through the years.

Sometimes one falls out of love, without even realizing why. But the pain and loss remain, and one cannot avoid feeling so bad, miserable and guilty. Not a nice place to be...these lyrics reflect many situations like this...what strikes home terribly is to acknowledge: I'd never leave if I knew you couldn't stand the pain.

My ex-husband broke my heart. He wanted to come back and I said NO! I wanted him to feel what I felt. He died unexpectedly 3 yrs ago. We were divorced for years, but that broke my heart again.
