I am 76 and have lived with music all my life and have over 1,000 LP's/CD's starting in the 1950's. Each decade has produced its own stars and Bruce was certainly one of those of the 80's. However I felt that after the 80's the standard started to decline and I have bought virtually nothing since 2000. I feel privileged to have lived in what has been probably the best period in history for popular music.

For a long long time I have thought much the same thing.. But at the age of 55, I no longer play CDs or Vinyl much, yet I am enjoying more music than I ever have….because KZbin has it all there, all the great stuff from the beginning of recorded music basically… but what it also has is a lot of music I would never have found before YT came along. It might be great new covers of old classics, or else it might be brand new music being played by the kinds of artists you’ll have never heard of, but they know how to write and play real melodies, not that worthless crap that we hate, churned out by the famous but talentless twerking hacks of today. You just have to delve into all the stuff YT brings up whenever you play a song… It’s just a fantastic new world of endless and practically free music !

I love just sitting down for five minutes, doesn't matter where I am, and just letting life flow past me as I listen to this. I think of people I've met, some no longer with me, some happy in their own lives, and some I lost contact with, and can only hope they're doing okay. I always take time to consider other people around me in a wider context and the life path they are on, and it gives me a massive 'yeah life can suck, but overall right now it's all right' kind of feeling. Wise words, and thanks for the blessing. This is not a random KZbin video, so very likely the people encountered here will be special, and our contacts with them can be a source of hope. Caring, being kind, sharing truth and even showing love with people we do not know and will never meet is very much what Jesus would hope from us. Since being Born Again on 28-2-21, I have realised that it is my mission to write to people on KZbin whenever I have the time; and the focus is in relation to songs that carry divinity with them thanks to the Holy Spirit. There are quite a few more such songs, though of course the list is not a very long one ... and indeed quite a bit of moden music (like most things in the world) is suffused with the dark lies and chaos and mockery of all that is beautiful that we can expect from S*t*n. Whenever I write on KZbin, I know how to do it without effort, and I always feel perfect satisfaction and joy with the task. I do not tire of it. The Holy Spirit is kind and merciful and inspiring, as are the Creator and the Saviour He leads us to. And He supplies us with patience, wisdom and discernment, as well as other gifts and signs. Who would say no to it? I didn't. Human genius is part of the equation in the special music, but none of Bruce Hornsby's works of art are quite like this one, which transcends on the basis of its love and truth ... to the point where basic concepts like happy and sad cease to mean much. For the Holy Spirit those are just different aspects of love and truth ... which is Him. He is the inspirer here.

One of my many regrets is that I never learned to play music. I tried to learn piano at the age of 9 but the teacher, a ghastly woman who lived above a bar called the Rising Sun (no, really), would beat me for not knowing something or other, so I decided I must be no good and gave it up. If she had not abused me I could probably sit at a piano today and play the intro to this song, just like we see in the first twenty seconds here, and that would make me happier than if I won the Lottery. But she did, and I can't, and that's another reason why paedophilia is wrong.

There are more divinely-inspired hits in which we can see the beloved Holy Spirit at work, just as we can with Bruce Hornsby. Give them a try, if you do not know them. Let me know if you see what I am on about or not. None of that is to take anything away from the magnificence of many 1970s and 1980s hits. But then The Beatles were 1960s, and the amazing "Ordinary World" from Duran Duran (yes, really) was 1993 - and that is one of the best songs, one of the best pieces of music of any kind, ever produced...

It also breaks all the audio rules of mid-1980s hit singles - it uses real piano instead of synclavier, there's no big reverb pop on the snare, the bass isn't a fake funk slap-bass synth. It's not "urban dance", it's not "metal ballad", and it's not Hi-NRG. I don't know the story behind the song, but I bet the record company said "oh this will never be a hit single" but put it out anyway just to shut someone up, and then were surprised when it took off.

I really don't know why but I get all chocked every time I hear this. What a beautiful, timeless classic. Up there with the best of them Bruce.
@sidpheasant7585 Жыл бұрын
I DO know why ... because the Holy Spirit helped Bruce come up with this immaculate and tremendous piece of art. We can't even say if it is happy, sad, melancholy or ecstatic, for it is all at the same time. It's love and truth (and genius) - precisely what the Holy Spirit is...
@tommac5924 Жыл бұрын

@@tommac5924 Yes have seen it, and do like it. I am fairly clear about his motivation, as is he. But I am interested in the mechanism allowing him to give sublime effect to what he felt. That is the miraculous part. We know Bruce is talented, but this piece transcends all the others, and transcends simplistic concepts like happy or sad. That happens when the Holy Spirit swings into action behind us, to give us wisdom, insight, strength and capacity to act... If we do not realise what has happened to us it might be seen as a lost opportunity, though the effect is there anyway. But I did realise when I stopped being "blind", and I'm very grateful for that, so I try to pass on and give back, as with this correspondence to you.

One of the most moving pieces of piano playing in human history. It is signature for Bruce Hornsby. It moves my spirit. It is unforgettable and it is simply beautiful. The words carry their own message but for me, I am separated entirely by the music which is so deep in its composition that all I can think about is the hope of reunification with my beloved mother and father in heaven one day with my precious son and brother, both healed from their disabilities - no more tears, no more hurting, just utter joy and happiness forever thanks to the indescribable love, amazing grace and finished work of our Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus. I am eternally grateful.

So it seems that I may not be the only one to think that the Holy Spirit/Paraclete is somehow in this music, inspiring, residing, spreading love and truth and understanding through it. This is to take NOTHING away from Bruce himself, a genius. But it takes something extra special to raise our earthly genius into transcendant understanding and connectivity.
