Very interesting video. Love the timeline of the crossing, also interesting to see that one set of lights was much further back from the road than the other one, meaning the crossing had 2 very different length boom gates. Also interesting to see the full road width boom gates as well, never knew they existed. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks! The crossing at Goulburn also had full width gates, there were a couple of others but I can't remember right now. Pretty sure the full width gates were only used at some manually operated crossings, where the signalman could make sure that no cars were trapped on the crossing.

Amazing video Mck&h Aust! Loved it ! The photos of the crossing at the end really made it and all that info in the description! Wow many changes have been made here . Odd that they installed the bells at the pedestrian crossing. Loved the night shots!

Thanks! The pedestrian bells do seem a bit unnecessary, but certainly make the crossing interesting :)

9:47 interesting that the pedestrian gates open on that side so pedestrians have access to the station!

Fantastic video! I love those pictures of the crossing through the years! Interesting how the crossing had no bells at first and now has 6! Those old signals were certainly nice! In the 86 class final years DVD in 2002 it shows the signal at 13:34 had a teardrop bell! Also interesting how the signal on the left appears at 13:59 has another type of gate light and not lantern ones.

Thanks! Sadly the teardrop bell only lasted a few years and I never got a picture of it. I think those gate lights at 13:59 were either WCH or NEG, same as the ones still found in VIC and SA.

Awesome video, definitely seems overkill to have 6 Western Cullen Hayes ebells, the road ones shouldn't be needed now in my opinion. Love those old photographs too it's interesting what the crossing has been through over the years.

Thanks! Yes it does seem like overkill to have 6 bells, at the very least I think the road crossing bells should be silenced once the gates have lowered.

Excellent video! I'm hoping to film another railway crossing again soon but due to lack of time and work it's been difficult to do.

The E-bells ring a lot slower. Normally in Australia it’s a fast ring. Is that right?

Weird how the crossing had no bells originally. Any idea why this was the case?
@McKHAust

I'm not certain but I'm guessing it was because the crossing was manually operated and supervised by the signalman, so he could make sure the crossing was clear before allowing any trains to pass.
