11:25 for what it's worth, personally I prefer external power bricks. Speaking from limited personal experience the power supply is the first thing that breaks on a display, besides the backlight maybe. It's nice to be able to just replace them without opening the often very flimsily put together display or throwing away the entire display.

The one without the external power brick is what I'd go with. They seem like a tossup otherwise. Funny you mentioned that Samsung 4k monitor video. I came across it years ago when I was looking for a 4K panel, and the next revision of that model is what I wound up with. It improved some things, and has been OK. The rear connectors are probably the weakest thing about it.

My first 27" IPS 1440p 144hz display (up from 25" 1920x1200 60hz) was the Acer XF270HU which I still have and use daily (now a side monitor in portrait mode) since it launched maybe a decade ago at $600. Even survived shipping from my old home in EST to PST when I relocated.

I'd be happy with either as a side monitor at home or main at my desk at work. They look good for high-res productivity. But not enough color accuracy for photo/video use & too slow refresh rate for gaming.
@jannegrey11 күн бұрын
I use quite old 60Hz monitor (IIyama ProLite B2409HDS). I would be interested in upgrade, but preferably something like 90-144 Hz 1440p monitor with FreeSync. 4K is great and all, but 60Hz is one of those things that make FreeSync a bit less useful. Plus the best GPU I have has 10GB of VRAM. So I would prefer perhaps to use FSR Quality on 1440p with decent settings in games.
@Elinzar11 күн бұрын
Free sync is terrible, in my gigabyte G27Q it introduces latency and at 144hz it feels like 60
@jannegrey11 күн бұрын
@@Elinzar Seriously? I never heard of such downsides. Heck, I don't think I've ever seen live (through videos it doesn't count) neither Freesync nor G-sync. And from what I've seen from latency measurements the difference isn't as big (144 to 60 would be over twice the latency). Perhaps you have some atrocious version of it? I did hear that some monitors had terrible implementation, but this is wild.
@Elinzar11 күн бұрын
Me neither but is either my 5700xt playing funny or the freesync chip in my monitor is subpar In any case i can really see my screen become way more fluid on desktop and gaming when i turn off free sync

I can see these being good as a travel monitor. Meaning, a reasonable monitor that helps increase productivity, doesn't weigh too much and isn't that expensive that you'd be worried if it got a little scuffed up or a little damaged. Obviously an option on a budget, but I feel like I'd just go 32" and spend only slightly more if I were looking for a stationary monitor. And for gaming perhaps a little smaller with a faster display for the same price or less.
@habilain11 күн бұрын
Given the similar performance/price, seems most likely that these are the same panel underneath with slightly different tuning. Nothing wrong with that, but it does simplify the choice between the two: buy whichever you think looks better / is cheaper.

I picked up a Sceptre 27 inch 4K 70hz panel for $160 back in December. I mainly got it for screen size and 4k. I only needed this monitor for a cctv nvr so refresh rate isn't important. I don't like that it has an external 12v power brick. They claim 99% sRGB, but I didn't test it.

Why are monitors with internal power supplies considered better than ones using an external power brick? I recently upgraded to a new monitor which uses an external power supply and while I can see how it can be annoying to find a good place for it (in my case I just happened to have an unused part of my desk which was perfect for it) considering that all monitor failures I experienced seemed to be caused by the internal power supply wearing out it seems like an external power supply should make the monitor last longer since it's user replaceable unlike the internal monitor power supply which is dangerous to work on.
