This is the first video in a longer series where I'll go through my process for creating this robot rig. One of the key features of this rig will be a IK FK switch.
In this video, we'll review how I make the deform bones, the foundation of this rig.
Let me know if you have any questions in the comment below!

one of the most complete rigging tutorials, You could have simply overlooked the movement and locking axis as those are the most basic part, and no one going to rig without knowing these. Thank you for being an excellent teacher. Thanks and respect. +1

Man the way you explained this is easy to understand to people unfamiliarized with these concepts, thanks you for taking the time to do it. I used to see armatures really hard to comprehend but now they seem easy, it's gonna be really useful for my robot project

I bought a rigging tutorial from FlippedNormals and it wasn't as helpful as this. Thank you so much for making these videos and for making them accessible to anyone. This is helping me so much as I figure out what I am trying to learn/do with my own robot project.

You are a rigging master as I have always said. Here is a question for you that man not be easily answered, which is okay, but here it is: do you ever run into situations where you want to go back and edit your model AFTER it's been rigged? Is that an annoying and problematic process? Does it impact the bone parenting? Is it an easier situation with hardsurface where there are no weights assigned? Woops, that was a billion questions, I guess. Sorry!
@LevelPixelLevel
@LevelPixelLevel 4 жыл бұрын
Hey, good question, if you are editing a model with a deform modifier it might be a bit of work to fix after the rigging process, you might have to move around bones to get new pivot locations. If you are using bone parenting you only have to unparent the mesh, make the changes, and then parent these pieces again. That being said I usually do this as I rig. I'll find problems in the model once I start rigging that I'll fix on the fly. The rig in this case is just a means for animation, a tool for the movement. Hard surfacing is a bit easier as I mentioned because you're just unparenting and parenting. Usually, I'll build the entire deform rig before adding any controls just to test everything out, almost like a blocking rig. Once I have this I'll run the model through some tests. As this is an early stage it is a great time to make changes to the model or rig before I add higher-level mechanics.

@@LevelPixelLevel thanks first of all for taking the time to reply, and for the depth of your answer. I think i see what you mean. I think i have to get over a fear of unparenting and reparenting, and just get used to maybe doing what you said... testing and adjusting on the fly (with hardsurface, like you say). Thanks again!

@@LevelPixelLevel hey thanks for doing that :). Btw I thought that It was useless to write 001 because blender gives you the default number and it was a waste of time. And still wanted to know if there is something beyond that (just curiosity) But I get your point. Thanks again:)
