Used to be but not now. They changed the 505. Maybe they are channeling the geniuses that decided to fix the Coca-Cola formula. They lost this customer. Why didn't they offer the change but with a different number and keep the original 505s which were 501s with zipper.

i’m a 32/32 and i find the 501’s to be more comfortable and wider while i don’t own any 505’s i have tried them on when looking for jeans and they fit more like straight

gotta consider the vintage Levi's 501/5 would fit different compared to the newer Levi's 501/5. slight alterations in these classic silhouettes over the yrs of production in factories paired w the regime of washing and shrinkage in older pairs, as well as sometimes personal customisation/tailoring by previous owners can make each pair of older Levi's 501/5 you find in the thirft fit more unique. Found a vintage pair of 501 beaten down, they fit more relaxed and looser compared to a 505 I own. Dude probs had bigger thighs and worked in these jeans. This pair made it fit perfectly on me as I have more bulk in the thighs and calf area, despite it being a 501 model👌🏾

505s because they have a version with better stretch with flex and a zipper fly, makes going to the restroom easier instead of unbuttoning one by one. 501s do have a specific dark wash that no other cut of Levi’s has though, so that’s probably the only reason why I’ll ever buy the 501.

Regardless of 505 or 501, I prefer the fabric to be a bit off my leg as opposed to skintight. Not a problem with either of these two models. 501 is the only pants I have with buttons so I would say I am a zipper guy, but it depends also of the pants if they are easy to button or have button holes that are too small for the button size.

I work for Levi’s and wear mostly the LVC 505, or the 1947 501. Both are very slim fits. For a more relaxed fit try a pair of LVC 1955 501’s.

@@ValFinale This may be the case for me as well, 36. I have had two pairs now of the 511 selvage and picked up 501s this last time since I couldn’t get the 511 in my size locally. I’ve always kept 505s for work pants, but haven’t used them for casual wear. The cut of the 511s are just snug enough to realize I’m missing out a bit in comfort. I was really surprised how much I preferred the button fly.

I've had faded black 501s for many years but i find them a bit restrictive in movement I ride my bike. I'm waiting delivery on solid black 505s and I think I like zipper more it's a pain doing buttons up. I've slim legs but I'm sure I'll prefer 505s. But I think I like shorter leg in jeans now also, shorter leg seems so common In jeans now

I own both vintage and new pairs of Levi’s 501 and 505 and I have to say the 505 has a better fit. I love both but the 505 has a slight edge due to me having big thighs. Love the button fly on the 501 but the fit of the 505 trumps it for me

I’ve owned levis 501, 505 and 550. Aside from fit, the 501 fabric always seems slightly different. The stonewash has a bit more texture and unevenness to it, which is what I prefer. Maybe it’s just the different factories or something, but 501 fabric looks the best.

I personally prefer 501s because they flatter me more as I am a very petite man. I think 511s are an amazing and great staple in my closet. (Also those shoes 💅)

If you want them to stack I would suggest getting a larger inseam so the pant fabric collects towards the ankle of the shoe

This isn't necessarily a question for you Drew but I would love to know why vintage levis have a much shorter pocket than newer ones do. I have 2 made in USA 550's and they have very small pockets. I also bout a pair of newer levis 501 (in 2020) that have the same shallow pocket with out realizing it. Other 501's I have seen in store have the longer pocket. Does anyone know anything about this? I have researched online but it seems like no one is talking about it.

As someone who works for levi's this is, with all due respect, completely wrong. the only difference between the two pants is the fly. they are made from the same blueprint, measurements, etc. However this is only if you get the traditional 505 as we have (somewhat secretly) changed the formula for the 505 and it now is 10% polyester and has stretch. I preferred the 100% cotton as it held its shaped better but if one is comparing a 505 to 501 you aren't comparing the cut of jean but the individual jeans themselves as the production process is known to make minute errors or differences on each pair. TLDR: cool video but most of the differences seen between the two are just placebo
