I’ve had the Levi’s trucker jacket, aka jean jacket, for a little over a year and wanted to do a review.
It is a solid jean jacket that is deep rooted in the history if America.
To me, this is an entry-level jean jacket.
It’s perfect for denim heads, or those uninitiated to the world of denim, those who don’t care too much about the world of denim and just want a cool jean jacket, and those who are on a budget (like me).
Watch the video to see why I give it such a favorable review.

The thing I don't like about the type 3 is they are cut too long. They need to sit at the waist, not below the hips like this. Not a great look. Best to track down 70's vintage ones or find a good tailor to cut about 2-3 inches off the bottom.
@DIYTutorialGuy
@DIYTutorialGuy Жыл бұрын
Interesting perspective, thanks for contributing. This must be why Bruce Springsteen cuts the bottom off of his…which was something I was always curious as to why he did that. However, I disagree that it’s not a great look. I personally like where it sits for my look, as I’m not a fan of them sitting too high. The beauty is that we can both have a style that works for us!

@@DIYTutorialGuy I never realized Bruce Springsteen did that but I can understand why, as back in the 80's and 90's when there was a renaissance of Denim jackets alongside leather biker jackets (the denim being the poorer persons choice) many found the length problematic and as is still the case with the adjustment tab buttons continuously getting caught and snagged on gates, fences, car doors and door frames. When I worked during this period in menswear retail many people buying the Levi's would pay an additional fee to have them shortened by our local tailor. I recall most people buying them chose this. It involved removal if the entire lower band including the adjustment tabs that made no difference to the fit anyway and seemed to be there simply for aesthetics. Alternatively because of their longer off the shelf fit, many went to the other brand "Amco" denims which had a perfect fitting shorter cut.

Thank you for this bit of history, very cool! Now that you mention, mine does get caught on my pocket knife clip. It drives me nuts and now makes sense why that happens. I’m looking into Brave Star’s denim jackets this fall, maybe the come up a bit shorter!

@@DIYTutorialGuy It's awesome to have things like this jog the memory helping me remember things long forgotten. I still own my original type 3 from 1996 in Black and it's still in beautiful condition. I always wished Levi's would do away with those useless lower back tabs that don't offer any adjustment to the garments at all. They are if anything a complete nuisance and the jackets would have a nicer look without them. A flannel check lining would be great too as opposed to the synthetic wool look stuff used in their Sherpa models which is really too thick and not at all practical. One of my older ones I no longer have had a flannel shirt sewn into it as a lining. You could not tell it was once a shirt and it looked really cool and was as warm as a jacket should be. I loved being able to hand sew favourite patches onto them for personalisation. That was a big thing back then. You just don't see anything like that anymore. I don't know about newer Bangladesh made Levi's but the older stuff could handle anything and look better and better with time and wear. I doubt the same could be said for their modern counterparts, but it's the same with everything these days. Made to a quantity not a quality.

Got a standard semi faded unit last week. I'm 5'9" 150 pounds walking around. With a long sleeve flannel shirt and a t- shirt underneath the medium was tight on me even with my small frame. The large fit much better and the sleeve length was GTG. Been wearing these Levi's jackets since the 70's along with 501's. With a pair of Tony Llamas or Doc Martens 1460's boots you can't go wrong. Steve McQueen cool! Levi's or nothing for me.

If your jacket is raw denim, I could see why you would go without washing it. If it's regular denim, you should be able to wash it weekly or as often as you like without issue. It's been summer here and I've sweat in my jacket a lot. I have no problem washing it when it needs to be done. Even raw denim, you can get soap, soak it inside out, rinse and hang dry. It's not going to dramatically fade, that's been my experience as least.

I'm in my 50's and I've never seen Levi's denim with a real leather patch, even in the late '70s. I do remember Lee jeans with leather though.

@@DIYTutorialGuy So what's up? Why does this specific jacket have a leather patch?
@DIYTutorialGuy

I have no idea. It was purchased at a Levi’s store. An internet search turned up this: www.reddit.com/r/vegan/comments/pja8mu/anyone_know_if_all_levis_denim_jackets_have/ Seems some trucker jackets have a leather patch.
@kenweller2032
@kenweller2032 Жыл бұрын
@@DIYTutorialGuy Maybe the standard patch is a leather product, but it always looked like some kind of paper that holds up to years of use and washing. Perhaps there are some Levi's releases with full grain leather patches that I haven't seen yet. Nothing fits like 501s for me, except for a period in my 20s when I was ripped AF and if they fit over my thighs, they were a couple inches too big for my waist😁
