amazing fades on your older 501's. just now getting into 501's after years of buying expensive japanese denim like iron heart (which I still love of course)

If I recall correctly, Levi's decided to use different fabrics for the pocket bags of their repros to mimic the original '44s. The scarcity in their regular supply prompted LS to utilise whatever different fabrics where available at the time.
@derekdoeschannel
@derekdoeschannel Жыл бұрын
that makes sense. But when the 44's first came out, they only had the olive drag pocket bags.

Maybe the olive drab pockets are meant to represent left over fabric used by the military? I'm just guessing, I don't have a real vintage but I do have an lvc 1944 from late 90s US made

Maybe. Levi’s should mention it in their literature.

Hey, Good work and how much wear you saying the older pair has?

Thanks. I probably have 3-4 years of on and off again use on the LVC pair. I get into wearing one style for a few months then switch to another to rotate them a bit. They don't take that long to start to get some good fades and patina.

Back in the day (1970s/1980s) we would soak our new jeans in warm water with baking soda. Wash to wear ratio = 1 to 3. 😉

Hi, Where are you located? In the UK, I know of a few places. Aero Leather carries a nice selection, End Clothing has them but not in long leg lengths. Probably your best bet is to do a google search in your area or have them delivered from an online store that carries them. Even Levis has them but usually not their full range of clothing online.

Can you mend my vintage jeans with your vintage sewing machine? Do you do that by chance?
@derekdoeschannel
@derekdoeschannel Жыл бұрын
Hi, I currently don’t have the proper machine to do that. There are many places that do have it. I bet you can find a local place that can depending where you live. If not you can mail your jeans to a shop.

Wonder if they made em in prisons in the US. I heard a lot of US jeans are made in the prison system.

I don't think Levi's ever was made in prisons. There was a prison label jean back in the 90's I think.

The old USA version which was made by 555 factory is better than the Japanese version because the quality of denim from 555 factory is very great! The denim of new Japanese version 44 501👖was made in Japan. It’s quality is good, However, the fabrics produced in the United States are always more advanced than those produced in Japan.

Vintage American denim is the same as modern Japanese denim since the USA decided to stop using the original way to weave and dye denim while the Japanese actually bought those machines from old American denim companies and continue to use them when making their denim

My modern pairs are made in Mexico (black and blue denim, both shrink to fit 501s). I got a pair of 501 shrink to fit for Christmas that are made in Egypt. My six or seven year old 550s are also made in Egypt. I love the ticking for the pocket bags. The Japanese pair reminded me of buying school clothes in the 1970s, our jeans came with a lot of tags, "This is a pair of Levi's" tag was coated cardboard. Even without being vintage line, Levi's are still close to $70.00, ha ha.

They're pretty close to each other. The Japanese really take their denim making seriously.

@@internetuser985 No this is a common myth in selvedge denim culture. The japanese brands use Japanese shuttle looms like the toyota ones.
