This ad still amazes me every time I see it. Hard to believe it's from the 70's.

Gawd this commercial brings back memories! I loved when this commercial came on. Especially that creepy whistle sounding music. So cool! It was so bizzare even for those days. Thank you so much for posting this!

I remember watching tons of Levi's ads while watching _Night Flight_ back in the day. Great show!

Someone should do a documentary about 1970s Levi's commercials. What were they, 20 years ahead of their time? Like the Star Wars of advertising.

Absolutely! These Levi's commercials are in a class all their own. First class pop art.

When I think of a Levi Strauss commercial I think of this one. The awesome harmonica and whistling; the graphics; and of course the legendary Ken Nordine. This was also a time when Levi Strauss made quality jeans. Not now. :(

Thanks for uploading the commercial. I love the nostalgia.

Ken Nordine didn't just voice the spots but also wrote them. The BBH Global (the ad agency) pursued him and included him in much of the creative process because of his creative brilliance with his Word Jazz. Back in the 70's when the spots were created, the agency spent over $250,000 (a lot of money back then) on the animation. I love these spots too because of how they remind me of how commercials had so much more of an alluring story arc to them back then, narrated by great talent with great voices, by the likes of Ken Nordine, William Conrad, James Coburn, Don Collier, Percy Rodriguez, and Earnie Anderson to name a few.

Wow, I remember this! This may have been the earliest computer-generated commercial I ever saw. But Levi's was always ahead of its time with its commercials, despite dating back to 1853. Thanks for this stroll down memory lane-with the little trademark in tow!

That's Ken Nordine doing the voiceover He's awesome. .

Pretty sure he wrote it too. Sounds like his surealistic word jazz style.

You cannot believe how this commercial freaked me out and gave me nightmares when I was little. It's the faceless- mannikin- types at the beginning that did it. LOL

I was in Jr. High and I thought whoever was bending the notes on the harmonica was awesome, and using the old 49'er to start out he timeline was a great idea.

I can definitely believe that! I think the ad is cool but honestly the faceless white mannequin people are terrifying. If I'd seen this as a child I would have had nightmares too.

Why am I only seeing these ads from the 70s for Levis, now? So much work put into them.

This looks sexier and more hi-tech than any commercial I've seen in the 21st century. I'm pretty sure there is no cg but if I'm wrong DAMN cg in the 70's was sicker than now? Figures.

This commercial was produced by Robert Abel and Associates, famous for their "candy apple" imagery motion control and optical compositing. Computers were beginning to be used for commercial imagery at this time of the early 80s. I have another version of this commercial where the ending is slightly different -- the school of logos at the end collapse into a rose at the end, not the levi's logo.

If this didn't get a Clio award, then something is decidedly malodorous in Denmark.

Men should learn from these commercials to learn how to dress...again! No more baggy, oversized, drab, dull, horrible modern day clothes or even those dull skinny suits aawwk!! We need bellbottoms, platforms, plaid, wide lapels, and dacron polyester clothes, lively colors again!! man it's time for a change!

Jump forward 10 years later and what can I say, it definitely looks like those concepts are breaking through again----
