As always, another great, practical, straight forward, review. And for a touch of unintended humor, I did note that your Classic Pro has lost it's Lew's side label as well. :o) And from my point of view - a recent convert to serious fishing - every review you do is learning more that I don't know, not just about the product, but about the art and skill of fishing.

Great review. First, you can email Lew’s customer service and ask them to send you a replacement badge since yours fell off. Mine did as well. They sent me one for free and I crazy glued it on. Second, for $99 i would rather buy another LFS. You are spot on you are paying extra for the pretty paint job. LFS has aluminum frame and more bearings and it’s important to mention it is the lowest priced reel that has the P2 bearing support system. For those reason I passed on the Smash.

No hate by any means but you cant say that when you haven't felt other reels that are around $100. I'm sure that's a great reel for the price but you can say its the best. Everyone has different idea of a great reel. Like I said...full respect..not hating on ya
@beerbeforebreakfast3 жыл бұрын
@@andrewlebaron9321 you have a point. I have Kastkings and Piscifuns that are belligerently able to cast! All below $100. But the Tatula has been the sweet sorta splurge cause ya gotta have atleast one Japanese reel, am i right. Reels all across the board nowadays blow anything from 10 years ago away. Hard to waste money on any since they are all usually pretty dagg good.
@8.21productions93 жыл бұрын
@@andrewlebaron9321 but I've used a ton of different reels at various price points from $100 to $600, and in my opinion if you're going to spend the money, spend it on something that's worth it. I love lew's reels, but not until they get a bit higher in price. From the feel in your hand to how they perform, everything's just better. But in the tatula 100, you get a great hand feel and you also get the performance of a higher priced feel. By all means, use whatever you want as long as you're getting out there and fishing. I'm just trying to help someone get the best bang for their buck. All of my cheaper lew's reels have burned out at some point or another, while my daiwas are still running as smooth as butter.

Def not wrong with graphite on a frogging/ jigging set-up... I have the Mach II and used it this past year as my only snakehead rod (heavy cover and lots of top water). Lew’s reels have been around a long time and I never bought one I didn’t like and still use. If you see a reel you like the looks of and how it works you should buy it. However, the looks and color of that reel is not my cup of tea. There are colorful reels that look great; most cost way more than that one. That reel belongs in the circus with all its look alike friends. Carbon fiber is five-times stronger than steel and twice as stiff. Carbon fiber is stronger and stiffer than steel, it is lighter than steel; making it the ideal manufacturing material for many parts. Carbon fiber is made of thin, strong crystalline filaments of carbon that is used to strengthen other materials too. If a reel is made of quality carbon fiber it is likely stronger than aluminum ones. Locking a reel drag works fine for small fish most of the time. Locked drags on big fish and bad things happen faster than normal humans reactions can handle.
@DEBOSFishing3 жыл бұрын
If they made reels of that caliber carbon fiber...sure. However, this is graphite which is simply enhanced plastic. It works well as long as you don't abuse it. I'm just an aluminum frame dude 💁♂️
@gizmocarr30933 жыл бұрын
@@DEBOSFishing I like metal frame reels too; trouble is manufactures want to sell reels for more and make them for less cost. I have old reels made with titanium, carbon fiber and steel. Most weigh the same or less than current ones. However, they have more parts and features that disappeared as time went by. Manufactures say new models are better; better for them or better for you. I believe it is better for them. Paint it red and call it new is funny but true.

Lews excels in the low budget category, but at 100 or more, there's so many better options. I have a Hypermag. It throws light baits really well, is nice and comfortable, but Lews cuts corners even on that. Instead of having a bearing or even bushing, on the pinion gear, it has nothing. Which means if you take the spool out and try to reel the handle, it grinds hard on the gears. My Daiwa Fuego has this bearing, and so does my Curado K. For a 300 dollar reel to not have it, is inexcusable.
