Jimmy Carter fell off a ladder & landed on his face a few years ago in Nashville building another Habitat for Humanity house. He showed up again the next day with half his face bruised! He was a true Christian, wonderful human being & served this country & the world for over 80yrs. Thank you sir, 🫡🇺🇸RIP ❤

I'm a Vietnam Veteran who has illnesses directly related to my exposure to Dioxin Poisoning (part of Agent Orange) according to Colorado VA Hospital. The part of that story is I'm dying. After 9 years US Army, I got an offer to be a TAFE and UNI teacher here in Sydney, Australia. Last night we had the Sydney Harbor 4th of July fireworks ... I just passed as after 7 weeks in the hospital (Again???). All my friends have died, like I am doing. I've been here since 1979, free health care, no guns unless your job requires it. To this day my friends and family know nothing about what I had to do to survive that war. I lost several troopers, some of who were close friends. I was told by my Australian PTSD doctor that both the USA and Australian governments have tested 71 different mood stabilizers/anti depressants. Your honesty lightens my moods. I look forward to your opinions on life 99% of the time. Is there life after death... in a few months I'll try to let you know. you be safe Lewis...and see if you can find a little happiness ... I truly mean that. (2/502 Infantry, 101st Airborne)

Boomer rant: President Carter. My first vote. Back in the day when, in Texas, you could both vote and drink at 18. What a concept. To be able to toast to the health or demise of whomever was sending you into harm’s way. By the time the draft ended in ‘73, some of us (me, party of one, your table is ready) contemplating service in the military, were so disgusted with the country’s leadership that we reconsidered that path. But President Carter restored the notion that ethics, truth and integrity oughta be requirements for The Job. Now Lost. All lost. And yet this honorable man walked the walk for 40 years beyond what we used to know as the Presidency. Maybe the same idiocy which is about to prevail for the next four years was active during Mr. Carter’s term, but at least he had the decency to not laugh in our faces while plundering the decency of our populace.

I went to vocational school, it was awesome. I had 2 years, less debt, great job afterwards that I paid off my loans within 2 years of working. I went to college 10 years after graduating high school so I qualified for "non-traditional student" stuff. I was well trusted, helped run some of the classes, got a 4.0, and it was a great experience that I most likely wouldn't have appreciated if I would have went right after high school.
@storungzАй бұрын
That's what I should have done... I too went to Uni 13 years after high school, graduated Cum Laude with a BS in Business Finance with a Certificate in Commercial Real Estate, also earning 1 of 2 scholarships for the Commercial RE certification. My career has gone nowhere, can't seem to break through the algorithms when submitting applications, over $40K in dept with student loans, pretty much been working secondary server gigs to help supplement my under $60K salary. I was making over $70K BEFORE I went to school, and only had $2500 balance on one credit card, with over $6K in my savings. Not stellar, but WAY better than I am doing today. I am now seriously considering becoming an electrician through my local union.
@rainbowtropolisАй бұрын
@@storungz Wow, that's a lot of Uni! Trade school would be a better choice I would think, if you're in a good area for it. Some trade schools will partner with local businesses to hire straight form courses, so it benefits the employer and employee as well as the local economy. Yeah, it seems like 4 year colleges just want your money for taking extra classes that don't qualify anyone for many jobs.

The issue with colleges is corporate influence. Instead of teaching various subjects and helping students learn to think critically, it's all about profit. Sports teams make money so coaches are paid well. Humanities are considered to be of little to no value, so they are eliminated. Pay flows up to board members and administration, while adjuncts who do the teaching struggle to make ends meet. Tuition goes up to pay those at the top of the pyramid. Schools turn a blind eye to honor code violations like campus crime and cheating, because they use reputation to bring in more donations and students. In the end, they've turned out a couple of generations full of barely qualified workers with a poor grasp of history, low empathy, and an inability to separate fact from fiction. It's what Big Business wanted: expendable, interchangeable drones. No joke, now there are lawsuits and deaths because some doctors try to fill their skills/knowledge gaps by watching videos online. 😢

The rant about college was interesting. Yes when someone goes to college, you do want them to be exposed to new things. You want them to see the humanities and the social sciences on some level. Our problem right now when it comes to colleges and universities in America is actually too full first it cost too much to go to college way too much money. Second, it’s the material that’s covered. If you look at the course load you used to have to take for an accounting degree it was more difficult to become an accountant 20 years ago than it is today. If you look at most college degrees today, you don’t start taking coursework towards your actual field of study until your junior year. That literally means for two years while you are in college, you are studying material unrelated to your field of choice. Now what I’m saying is normally when you analyze a degree, you only have two years of coursework that’s directly related to your field of study. You may indeed take accounting classes as a freshman, but you also will likely take social science coursework as a senior. In other words, we don’t study enough of the material for our degree field yet we pay more money than ever for that same degree. Now here’s the other issue that people don’t talk about even the courses related to your degree field are not as hard as they used to be. Now that can be twofold I know students right now who use ChatGPT to literally complete Finance courses. They don’t do the work themselves. They have the AI program write the paper or determine the answer for them. They do a little bit of deconstruction and then submit the work so not only are you getting students who don’t know the material they’re not even pushed hard enough to understand the material I’ll give you one more issue just to put some icing on top of the cake Remedial coursework. It’s taking students longer than ever to finish their degree. Because when they start college, most of them have to go back and take Medical coursework for high school classes. That’s right they aren’t ready for college to begin with. So those same students who are taking easy courses aren’t ready for the easy courses and pay more money for remedial courses. Yeah, let that sink in. People ask, how can I say this simple I actually tutor the high school students before they get to college. Most of them aren’t ready for college level mathematics when they graduate the 12th grade yet all of their test scores say they are until of course they get to the university campus, and the university gives them an exam to see where they are for some reason when they take that university exam they always show up at high school level.
