Florida State got the Seminole Nation's permission. I think they even pay them royalties. Cleveland is now known as the Guardians. Atlanta also consulted local indigenous representatives and got their approval. Does that clear the board for you?

I can't comment on the logos because I don't know the logos (I'm not really a sports fan), but neither Braves nor Seminoles is an offensive name (Cleveland Indians is arguable). Redskins was offensive because it was seen as a derogatory term. There's nothing derogatory about Braves, and Seminoles is literally just the name of the tribe.

Now that Snyder is no longer the owner, hopefully whoever comes in can make Washington relevant again. I grew up in an NFC household. My dad is a Giants fan and my mom is a Cowboys fan. This made Sundays interesting especially when those 2 teams played each other. I didn't care for Monday nights if they met up. School, hockey, and baseball filled up my days. Anyway, to see Washington get as good as the times when I was a kid. Solid defense, a run heavy attack, and a decent receiving core. To see the Nats and Caps win a championship in succession had to be kind of tough for the NFL club. 3 decades since beating the Bills...

My CIB says 4/4ths Navajo. A CIB is a "certificate of indian blood" that is issued when you enroll with a federally recognized tribe. This is based on your parents documentation or their CIBs. For those that prefer indigenious, native american, Dine', well there you have it. I was raised on and off the reservation. Spent grade school and high school in the four corners area. What is amazing to me is that this topic always seemed to hit the news cycle every time the Redskins played the Cardinals. They are not division rivals but are in the same conference and play each other about every three or four years. I think it's based on strength of finish and the two at large games that are outside the rotation in cross conference play. Typically there were protests out at State Farm stadium. What was never covered were those who came out in support. I think in all the years, I saw on the local innocuous news, only once when support was shown. Interestingly enough, when the protestors were shown, the majority were white. Even more interesting is that when you saw the supporters, they were almost all natives. Much in line with the comments here. A very strong showing of support from natives, dare I say a majority. My question is simply why are white people offended more than the average native? Now for those brave and disciplined enough to follow exact intructions. Do this exercise. Go to google maps. Zoom in on the four corners area. Way up in the corner of Arizona locate the community of Red Mesa. Probably less than ten miles west of the actual four corners. The namesake red mesa straddles the Utah/Arizona line. For as long as I can remember there wasn't much more than a gas station and the school. If you zoom in on the school, you will see the football field. There is a spur of road that comes off the highway just west of the field. Zoom down close to the highway and that little entrance to the school. Click on the highway to put yourself on "streetview". Pan over to behold the Redskins logo on the information sign in front of the school. It is probably gone now, but as of last school year, was still there. Just this last year they went by the Red Mesa football team. Years before the LED info sign, you would come over the hill and there was a big plywood sign that said welcome to Red Mesa, home of the Redskins. For at least fifty years, (I'm mid fifties), they were the Redskins. Going to school in Windowrock, we played them in sports. During all that time no one had a problem with it. It would seem that someone had to go out there and tell them that they should be offended by Redskins. Because we as natives aren't sophisticated enough, qualified, enlightened or woke enough, to make that determination for ourselves. That, ladies and gentlemen, is far more offensive to me. It is not lost on me that over time the local adminstration as well as outside forces decided it needed to change. It is also not lost on me that some natives, not all, are offended by it. My late parents worked for the Interior Department for a short time during Jimmy Carter. We lived inside the beltway. Redskins stuff all over town, just like any other NFL town. My old school democrat parents never said a thing to us about it. My late father's inter department softball team was the "Little Big Horns". Today there would be some kind of outcry over that. Something has changed, and it's not necessarily for the better. If political correctness has an end, that end is no one being able to say a thing. Ironic, because comedians like Lenny Bruce, George Carlin, and yes Lewis Black (whom I really enjoy), should be the first to recognize that it's really a first amendment issue. You can't have it both ways. I don't agree with Satanists or flat earthers, (trying to be random), but they have the right to express their views. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it should be cancelled. Will we as the Navajo tribe change every trace of what a few might deem offensive? We'd have to change our flag to the Dine' nation, along with thousands of other things that are part of daily life. In the future. If it's a native issue, it should be natives' issue, not non natives. Here's a simple solution. Have it added to every tribal ballot when their election cycle comes around. Vote for or against the Redskins name, but with one caveat. You have to present your CIB when voting on this particular issue. The percentage of indian blood that you have is how much your vote counts. You Cherokees would hardly make a blip. Please take this rant with a grain of salt, it's years of following the issue. I love and respect all my native brothers and sisters, I hope I've at least represented in a humorous way. BTW, go pack go! Also, my suggestion for the D.C. team would be the Deficit. The D.C. Deficit.

I am Ojibwe, & since the '80s asked fellow tribesman what their "skin" was; meaning, what's your tribe & was asked that, too. A "Redskin" is a descriptive term. The original namer of the team was George Preston Marshall, who bought the team when they were still in Boston. He named the team in honor of those who participated in the Boston Tea Party who dressed up as "natives", although that costuming apparently consisted of some with feathers in their hair, or paint on their faces.

Maybe the word is like "Hillbilly." Where I come from it's an offensive term -- more like "indian" vs. "red skin" -- and not used. In other parts of the country that I can drive to in just a couple of hours, it's embraced almost as a term of endearment. My Braves scaled the mountain in 2021 and did it in fine style by beating the asshole cheating Asstros into submission.
