watching lewis dominate recently has felt like busy work for everyone watching but reflecting on the past, it makes you realize that even he himself was an underdog; it hits you that he got extremely lucky. the dream to reach f1 looked dead on the scene on multiple occasions but he fought back against the odds, won, and the universe rewarded him as a result--- a scenario that is damn near impossible in today's junior racing scene, to put that into perspective. it was remarkable back then but seeing how tough young drivers have it today, it makes you really appreciate what took place and what's taken place since, even if you aren't a fan of hamilton's. he's is the one everyone's chasing right now, but for the longest time he was the one doing the chasing--- it just so happens to be that his dominance made people forget that his story is nothing short of astounding.

@ryanjonathanmartin39332 жыл бұрын
If anything, he should have gotten more. 2012 and 2016 come to mind. His 2012 campaign was hampered by the poor reliability of the MP4-27 as well as McLaren's botched pitstops and strategy that year; in 2016 he also suffered from more reliability issues and bad luck although he could've maximised his results further in some of the races against Rosberg. Let's also acknowledge the fact that his teammate gallery is probably the strongest of any driver of his generation except for Kimi Raikkonen. Two of his teammates were defending champions (Alonso in 2007 and Button in 2010) and one beat him to the championship in a straight title fight (Nico Rosberg in 2016); every single one of his teammates are Grand Prix winners, including his current teammate George Russell (who claimed his long overdue first GP win at Brazil this year), and every single one apart from the champs (Alonso, Button, Rosberg) won their first GP whilst in their first year as teammate to Hamilton. That is why it's pure garbage to me that Hamilton is somehow overrated; the man may seem like a fake "diva" on social media, but behind that jetsetter's lifestyle is a true great driver that has been fine-tuned by adversity and learning from past mistakes.

That drive at Turkey in 2006, and as a matter of fact, his entire tenure in GP2, nearly never happened. When Lewis had a fallout with McLaren in 2004, he and his father had approached Williams for a drive in F1 for 2005. Had it not been for their engine supplier at the time, BMW, declining to fund his junior career as McLaren had, Hamilton would have been on the F1 grid as early as 2005.

-> He came runner-up in the Drivers' Championship in his first year in Formula One. -> He had tested fewer laps than teammate Fernando Alonso (at the time the defending champion, having won two consecutive titles prior to 2007) in the MP4-22, and still matched and sometimes beat him throughout the season. -> Won the title in his second year in F1. -> So far the only driver to have won a Grand Prix in every single season he has raced in F1. Even if this record fails to stand after 2022, he still shares a joint record with Michael Schumacher for having the most consecutive seasons in which he won at least one Grand Prix (15 seasons). -> Mercedes persuaded him to join the team to replace the retiring Michael Schumacher after 2012, not the other way round. He was Mercedes's first option for Schumacher's vacant seat. Some reports claim that Mercedes's team principal Ross Brawn and non-executive chairman and three-time World Drivers' Champion Niki Lauda had looked to speak to him since June 2012, three months before his announcement to join Mercedes in September of that year. -> Then-McLaren team principal Ron Dennis was so impressed by his career in karting that he was offered a place in the McLaren Young Drivers' Programme at the age of 13, then the youngest person to ever be signed by the Programme. F1 fans apparently want people to enter the sport on merit, rather than as "diversity hires". Well, here's a black guy who entered the sport because he won the GP2 championship on his first go. But that's still not skilled enough for them! *Or maybe they just don't want black people in the sport.*

@kityhawk20003 жыл бұрын
I'd also point out that the drivers are a big part on why the best car is the best car, because they are the ones giving feedback and suggesting improvements to the engineers.
