This video is split into two parts, first our trip to Lewis and Harris (with no dialogue), followed by a chat about our journey and tips for visiting the islands yourself.

Lewis and Harris (referred to as two islands but in fact just one landmass) make up the northernmost part of Scotland’s Outer Hebrides, also known as the Western Isles. We spent a week there in June, the final part of a 2.5 week camping road trip through the islands.
In this film we explore the amazing white sand beaches of Harris, follow scenic routes to Huisinis and around the Golden Road, marvel at the dramatic coastline around the Uig area, and check out the Callanish Standing Stones (older than Stonehenge!) and thatched blackhouses at Gearrannan, plus lots more!

This brought back memories of childhood as I holidayed here in the very early 60’s, in a rural village called Tolsta Chaolish when I was 5 or so. We kids were feral then 😂. It was all very rural and remote. Google maps shows the house my sister built is still there, plus Old Annie’s Place also known as the post office, and the home of my sisters mother-in-law is also still there though modernized. Memories. Not all good but Lewis is stunning. Thank you for the trip down memory lane. 🥰

Another superb video which is so relaxing to watch, it was over too quickly! We had recently returned from a trip to Skye, Harris and Lewis and briefly, Wester Ross at the end of September. Harris and Lewis has left a lasting impression on me with its breath taking scenery, so it was great to see yourselves visiting places we'd just been to. The weather was mixed but didn't distract from the beauty of the place. We most certainly will return as 5 nights was just not enough. I'm now looking forward to your Skye video. Thank you both.

Enjoyable and educational, that's what I like to hear! Scottish place names can be impossible for us too at times, especially if it's a Gaelic name. I think we have pronounced everywhere correctly in this though. Yeah, the beaches in the Outer Hebrides are unbelievably beautiful, if only the water was warm!

A great read for me was ofan island named Raasay ,in the Hebrides about the Rona Lighthouse keeper, Calum Macleod , who , by himself , over the years , built his very own road , The island is extraordinary too , Hebrides produces some extraordinary humans , ❤❤❤nz

I think filming the tips of the Callanish Stones was a subtly masterful touch. We were there just last month (we stayed in a pod in Mangersta) and it was lovely returning with your film.

Outstanding and truly inspirational. The photography is beautiful and meditative. I now really want to go there next summer! Your commentary, as ever, is engaging and fun. (Oh.. I do worry that newbies to the Channel will think that they're going to get an hour of scenery and more scenery, not realising that halfway through will be this opportunity to meet you in such an enjoyable and personable way. I wonder if the title really needs the addition of... 'we tell you all about the trip in the second half!'..? I worry that people just watch a bit then go away, not realising that there's this great bit yet to come. Thanks, Steven! Yeah, drone use usually depends on how often we can charge batteries. On this trip we could charge in the car while driving, and we bought a fourth battery as well. Our camera gear for this specific trip is linked in the video description. These days we have a DJI Air 2s instead of the Mavic Air, the Sony camera and lenses remain the same as described in the blog post. We need to find the time to update the blog post with any changed gear, it's on a long list!

Some of the earliest finds , of The Stones of Standing , have been found , on the Golan Heights , in Israel . .this is interesting indeed . ❤we have a Forrest here in nz , on the Hokianga , which has walls of stone , not carved by hand , that predate Maori,. We also have caves , at Taupo Bay, with remains of humans who had elongated skulls, pre maori , hmm .

somewhat random question. are there any laws in scotland, either now or in the near future, prohibiting old cars to be driven "to save the planet" or something similar? I`m looking to live in a sane place with my old Lada.

Hmm, not totally sure to be honest, Del says there definitely are regulations for older vehicles, but don't know the specifics. And if you're trying to import an old vehicle I think there's a lot of hoops to jump through (based on some quick research I did when we were considering driving an UAZ Buhanka back from Georgia!).

I think it's because the two regions are separated by mountains and prior to the road being built, people would have journeyed by boat to get from one to the other, making it feel like two distinct islands.
