This is a whiteboard animation tutorial on how to draw Lewis structures of molecules. This is my second tutorial in the series. The first video includes Lewis diagrams of atoms and can be found here:
• Lewis Diagrams Made Ea...
For a limited time, get $200 cash if you qualify! Check out:
accounts.chase...
Lewis diagrams (aka Lewis structures, Lewis dot structures, Lewis dot diagrams) are useful because they use simple drawings to show how atoms share valence electrons in molecules, polyatomic ions, and other covalent structures.
This video:
1) reviews the 5 basic steps for creating a Lewis structure
2) goes through 4 detailed examples
3) identifies patterns of bonding to help create Lewis structures
4) introduces a faster way to draw Lewis structures
5) demonstrates how this trick works or falls short for 4 additional detailed examples

@@themagician8749 As someone who's studying teaching, no. There are really a lot of teachers who don't know how to teach. Well, a lot of teachers in schools didn't even graduate with a major in education so I guess we shouldn't really expect a lot from them in terms of teaching.

Wow! Love your videos :) I am not even studying chemistry, and was never good at it - maybe for the same reason many wrote here: bad instructions by those who call themselves "teachers" - they probably know how to teach themselves and that is it! So, although I love chemistry (because chemistry is LIFE itself and everything that surrounds us!), I have always being afraid and scared of taking any chemistry, other than the mandatory in high school. Today, 35+ years later (since H.S.) - I love to research about random chemistry formulas and structures. You made Lewis structure sound so much fun and interesting! Pretty precise too. Thank you! ♥ P.S.: OMG, love watching how the animated board works! Fascinating. :) Your voice is very soothing too. Okay, I will stop! :)

I thought the center atom should be the least electronegative, not "the element there is only one of". A good example is nitrous oxide N2O.
@ketzbook
@ketzbook 6 жыл бұрын
The least electronegative element has A LOT of exceptions (H2O, NH3, Cl2O, CH4, NBr3, NI3, etc.) You are right, N2O is an exception to "the element there is only one of" but it is NOT an exception to "the element that wants the most number of bonds" rule. Maybe you stopped the video too early to hear that one? "The element there is only one of" rule is CORRECT MORE OFTEN than electronegativity, and is MUCH EASIER. The element that wants the most bonds is a bit harder, but there are very few exceptions (and those very few exceptions are thermodynamically less stable isomers, if you know what I mean). So, electronegativity is literally not helpful in determining the central atom.
