I get Duncan was a little salty about Lewis just taking half of England, but he acted so stupidly and stubborn just because of something that happened hours before. Lewis and Rythian were right. He has literally the entire world he can raid, but he's choosing to be salty and hold grudges instead of actually playing together like they planned.

Pretty much how Duncan plays sadly. I don't dislike the guy, but he often comes in with "one plan" and then spits his dummy out when it doesn't go as he wants it to. You can kind of see it in TTT as well (even though I like him there) where he will absolutely use the same weapon (prop exploder or launcher) for, like, 100 rounds in a row, then get salty when people call him out on it. He's one-dimensional when it comes to strategy.

The thing I find more annoying about it is just that Lewis entered the original war with England to help Duncan. And immediately after taking the land Lewis told him he could go to war with Lewis for the land and Lewis would surrender it over to him. But instead of working together like they agreed to Duncan refused to take Lewis up on his offer, then sat in mostly silence about it for half the stream, then warred Lewis for the wrong piece of land because he didn't actually have a claim on the land he said he wanted. And the only reason Daltos was on Duncan's side is because Daltos did almost the exact same thing.

The thing I had to get used to regarding being attacked and wars was that my vassals were already helping me in wars, just not directly, since levies are a portion of their men that they have agreed to give to me, after all, and I do have some degree of control over that via the feudal contracts. The other main element, of course, is marrying off kids for alliances and calling those individuals to war (though I like to keep a couple for marrying off to vassals to keep alliances there to prevent the most powerful from forming factions against me).

Bit hard to listen to Duncan complain... Ive lol'ed frequently in my first ever long CK campaign, because the things I do are so fucking medieval... this is what I wanted in CK2 and never got, now it works and isnt that hard. It's just important to get 1 big title early on that your main heir keeps, then conquer enough holdings for yourself and distribute new ones to him. My first 3 rulers quickly got to their domain limit of 6-8, and I made my oldest son always hold at least 1 full dutchy or equivalent in counties. Sure, it lead to alot of border gore and Ive then had more than 1 war against sibblings to gain the ancestral seat of my house back. But since my main heir was always the best of the lot, with 5-6 domains before the succession, he was usually fine when becoming king. I struggled on the one that was 7 when becoming king, cuz too many vassals hated him. Nifty trick: when my old king was 70+ and I figured, he'd really kick the bucket any minute, I stole several titles from vassals and that made all the unhappy ones rise. But being in power for so long and having 4-5 allies, that rebellion was crushed and all the unhappy nobles were in prison when my 7 year old son became king. I released them one by one (or disowned them) as my new king got older and able to impress them (short rule penalty aswell as child penatly gone, it helped). Some of the former prisoners became my young kid's best friends later :P => medieval!

I'm not even an hour in and already there's been two or three things, the one that inspired this comment was him saying that George RR Martin was just some kid from New Jersey who started writing a fantasy book about a European war. George RR Martin was an accomplished sci-fi writer for decades before he even started on game of thrones, and the Yorks and lancasters thing is all purely referential surface dressing with none of the events of the books matching up to any of the events in history with only the most vague connections that could also be true for nation/ruling families at the time

@voided_sun4 жыл бұрын
First of all, sitting on some money is always the right move, cause you never know when someone decides to be cheeky and tries to conquer/subjugate your entire kingdom in a single war. Secondly, he didn't even own cities, he owned baronies/castles. Thirdly even if he did upgrade his own land, his possessions were going to get carved up amongst his children, so why bother? Fourthly, he couldnt win those wars that he surrendered without hiring mercs costing at least 500 gold. That isn't worth the few little counties they wanted. The only war that mattered is the civil war, because winning that one puts all the rebellious leaders directly in your prison, which stabilizes your kingdom.
@kamikazesopp4 жыл бұрын
@@voided_sun Geez, sorry to offend. While I get your points, I have to counter a little bit: not upgrading your stuff because your kids will carve it up in a game largely about building dynasties is like not fertilizing your fields because your kids will just eat all the crops. Hanging on to your money is fine, but when you are consistently suffering from things like small and weak levies, and getting easily sieged because of your shitty castles, not upgrading them when you could afford it twice-over is nonsense. @@kamikazesopp hmm, I disagree. I have all dlcs and over 4k hours in ck2, I think this game is a lot different. There are some ways in which it is worse, particularly in the customizability of things like UI and game rules. Then there is the obvious lack of some systems in ck2 dlcs, however that's to be expected and we got alot more of those systems incorporated into base ck3 than I expected. However ck3 introduces or revamps some systems with great detail, such as the way of life dlc equivalent being far better here and introducing the lifestyle trees. Imo this game is way more character focused than the last, which is really what ck has always been about. Although not totally relevant rn, it looks to me like the dlcs are gonna be better aswell. What particularly makes me think that is the foreshadowing that the China dlc will actually add China to the map.
