It's so easy. Based on his abusive relationship with his father, Lex understood that powerful beings aren't always good. When it comes to Superman, he hates the idea of having a godlike figure acting as jury on what's good and bad, as that leaves mankind with no choice but to helplessly submit since they don't have a means to stop him. That was the message he wanted to convey with the framings ("God is tribal, god takes sides"), and that feeeling of powerlessness is what he used to fuel Batman's anger. With this philosophy, he portrays himself to the public as a philantropist, but in reality he's just a power-hungry maniac that wants to vent his resentment at Superman since he represents the godlike ideals he grew to hate.

Naw its the opposite for me. (Superman) I saw no fear in this lex. And I love it. The scene where Clark yells WHERE IS SHE with his red laser eyes and lex just laughs it off.. You can interpret as lex being scared but I see as him taunting superman and getting a rise out of him and lex gets off on that. This whole scene is lex toying with superman. No fear. Sheesh

Lex exposed Superman to a weakness far worse than kryptonite. He discovered the best way to hurt Superman is to threaten and hurt those he cares for. Like General Zod in Superman 2 ala the Reeve films says to Ursa "This Superman is nothing of the kind. I discovered his weakness. He cares he actually cares for these Earth people." Ursa asks "Like pets?" Zod replies "I suppose so." and after when Superman flew away after realizing he can't fight Zod, Non and Ursa anymore without risking Metropolis be destroyed Ursa says "Why not increase his handicap. Since he cares so much for these Earth people. Let us take his favorite!" and by favorite Ursa meant Lois

Eh, I still don’t like this version of Lex Luthor because he’s not Lex Luthor
@jamyskis7 ай бұрын
@@drelezar7745 Oh, it very much is Lex Luthor. At the very least, it was by far a more accurate depiction of the character than the Hackman version. Ironically, it was probably John Shea who gave the most comic-accurate version, but Eisenberg embodies the most essential characteristics of Luthor as he would be if he had been invented in the big tech era. At the end of the day, Lex Luthor is meant to represent the polar opposite of Superman - evil, a master strategist, a sociopath, narcissistic, misotheist, and physically weak, with a deep jealousy of anyone who embodies greater power than his own. How Luthor expresses himself within these constraints has varied widely from story to story over the years, but he is more than the bald head (and the supposedly deep, manly voice - even though very few movie/series depictions have portrayed him as such). The reason Lex Luthor has been established at the top of Superman's rogues gallery is because he routinely exploits Superman's one natural weakness - his comparatively lesser intellect. At the end of the day, Superman has god-tier powers, but in terms of his mind, he's just a farm boy from Kansas. He'll often solve problems with his strengths, powers and goodness, but he often falls short when it comes to strategising and thinking more than a couple of steps ahead. The weakest Superman stories are typically the ones where he's all-knowing and morally infallible. BvS was essentially that in a nutshell - Luthor exploiting everything that made Superman human to gain the edge over him.

Dude same! I really dug this interpretation of the character. I see so many just jump to the “oh he acts crazy so he should be joker” like ok that’s the most surface level understanding of who Joker is as a character but whatever. The calm calculated Lex Luthor from comics and other medium is great and I hope to one day see it again but the script for this film clearly calls for something different. This is a character unhinged by past childhood trauma, desperately seeking power and wishes to dominate anyone who poses a threat to his power. Superman to him represents the messianic figure that never saved him from his abuse. It’s pretty mature stuff for a comic book movie and a pretty interesting take on the character. I could maybe agree he’s overacting a bit but I feel the acting choices were justified.

The whole problem with this movie is that there aren’t enough scenes to flesh out Superman as a character. We could’ve had Superman give a heartfelt speech explaining his motivations & why & what he’s doing which seemingly wins him respect, & then the bomb explodes burning down the goodwill he just built. When he comes back from his brief exile he stops at his apartment where he checks his phone to find a message from Lois explaining Lexs whole conspiracy to frame Clark. This is why he’s so enraged when he confronts Lex.

A man who viewed himself as the Man of Tomorrow. But here they made him look like a psychopathic,sociopathic and sadistic kid with daddy issues. And in Suicide Squad,Joker wasn't done right either. He was more of a crime lord and arms dealer than the King of psychopaths and prince of crime. The only time he did something psychopathic was when he gave Harleen shock therapy, and that was it. And don't even get me started on his tattoos and outfit... If u ask me, The Dark Knight's version of the Joker is THE best. And the Supergirl version of Lex Luthor is awesome!

I love how at the start of the scene, Superman is higher than Lex, like it reflects their statuses in that moment, he thinks he’s higher than Lex (I’ve got you, Lois is safe, I’m taking you in), but then Lex is patient and is sitting there like a child and is excited, and he starts talking and they’re on equal ground and Superman says, “What have you done?” Lex mentions that “special lady” when fighting Batman and Superman thinks he means Lois and he’s smiling and thinks he’s still above Lex, but Lex makes his move and it turns out that it’s Martha. Superman then starts to lose his composure and he’s brought to his knees and then finally he almost snaps with his Heat Vision, but he’s able to control himself (testament to his character). Lex then flies away in his helicopter and is higher than Superman. I think that this scene is brilliant and is one of the best in the movie. It’s not a perfect movie but this scene is brilliant. I also like how Lex started the timer at the beginning and kept Superman there for four minutes talking, meaning that he’d less than an hour now, which isn’t fair, but I guess you can chalk that up to saying that God takes sides and how he didn’t think that was fair so this is kind of him getting back at God and not giving him a fair chance, that doesn’t fully make sense but you may be able to get it.
@BLANK-ep8qb3 жыл бұрын
You’re spot on. I also think that the timer indicates how he’s making Superman more human-like since Humans are bound by time. And Superman, being a demigod, isn’t bound by the same principle. This entire monologue is imo one of the greatest movies scenes ever. Not even to mention that insane acting.
@dancastro68733 жыл бұрын
@@BLANK-ep8qb That is why I like Cavill after Reeve. We are finally seeing Superman's humanity emerge. Lois asks "Your bookie right?" Clark says "What?" Lois then says "Don't tell me. He sends a check each week to his sweet gray haired mother." Clark replies "Actually she's silver haired." and Perry reassures him he will do his best and Clark thanks him and Lois says "Anymore at home like you?" Clark replies "Not really no." That is truly human and a loving son

Amazing observation! Damn. That also reminds me of the title of BvS, as the “B v S” was symbolic. Think of the “v” as descending and ascending. So Batman is descending downward the entire movie only to hit rock bottom then he ascends half way through and finally fully ascends after superman sacrifices his life. Aren't they so ugly that it makes you want to rip their throats out? Yes, they are. They know it, too. They just can't admit it because they're liars. You can tell if someone doesn't have sympathy for the oppressed that he's a privileged parasite who would greatly benefit from having some sympathy beaten into him. And then he'll accuse you of having no sympathy, even though has none himself, for anyone but himself. And then he'll insult you for being violent, even though he respects nothing but violence, and would beat you like a dog the moment you stopped being violent unto him. People like this are everywhere now. They're not human, and should not be treated as human. They also insult you if you're peace-loving and non-violent; and take advantage of you if you're kind and sympathetic and innocent; and laugh at you if you tell them to be good. I can't believe that some people still say Lex had no actual motive, because he had one. Lex is a classic misotheist. He loathes God. As he says here, he was abused by his father as a kid and hated God ever since, because he didn't save him. From then on, he knew that if God was all-powerful, he couldn't be all-good. And that if he was all-good, he couldn't be all-powerful. He realized that if God had the will to save him back then, he hadn't the power to do it. And that if he had the power to do it, then he hadn't the will to save him. And now where he has kind of a physical embodiment of "God" in Superman, he's obsessed with the thought of proving to humanity what he discovered as a child. And he won't hesitate one single second to kill dozens of people in order to reach that goal. So, at its core, Lex is a scared and aggrieved child that just wants the world to indirectly see what was done to him by showing humanity that Superman is a hypocrite. That "God" is a hypocrite.

What people were complaining about is the plot-hole filled plan of Lex, the fact that he randomly managed to use a Kryptonian ship AND to make in less than a day a fucking Doomsday monster. They also complained about the overracting of this actor. That's about it. A lot of people (including myself for a while) hated this Lex Luthor, but when you think about it and really take the film on its own terms, he's probably the most successful Lex Luthor ever put on screen. In one movie he: -Figured out Superman AND Batman's secret identities -Successfully manipulated them both and turned them against each other without either of them being the wiser until it was almost too late -Killed a senator who was against him and managed to frame Superman for it -Got his hands on advanced alien tech without too much hassle -Created Kryptonite -Created Doomsday -Made Superman kneel before him WITHOUT using Kryptonite -KILLED SUPERMAN in their first real encounter -Managed to weasel his way out of federal prison by faking insanity and getting sent to Arkham Asylum Hate DCEU!Lex Luthor for his character tics and what have you, but cannot deny he has accomplished more in one movie than most Lex Luthors have across multiple seasons of shows and movies.
