I loved Smallville so much thanks to how they finally flushed out Lex as an actual person, instead of just another villain for Superman to overcome and save the day again. You got to see him struggling under the repeated abuse of his father to become his own person, the frustration and confusion he suffered while trying to make sense of the chaos surrounding him in Smallville, and how he wanted to have the love of a family like Clark had that ultimately led to his insane jealousy and eventual hate of Clark.
