And Clark and Lois, who only respond to threats once people are already *DEAD,* felt that the fact that Luthor was innocent of that *ONE* crime means that unleashing such a dangerous threat on the general public and their own family was somehow the right thing to do. Just like how last season Peia's cancer excused *everything* the Mannheim's did, including raiding the DoD, trying to kill Superman, and actually killing the former mayor of Smallville! On this show, Superman doesn't protect, he avenges. It's only disasters that he deals with decisively, not criminals.

Yes. Otis was a fellow inmate in this one. When he first met Lex in prison, the evil genius wanted to hire Otis as a henchman in exchange for his shaver. Otis had Lex beat up. Lex later got even and Otis ended up as his chair before becoming a henchman.

Definitely a great confrontation that Clark and Lois have with Lex Luthor. Lex is intimidating the whole time and has a grudge with Lois for putting him away for a crime he didn't commit. Lex wants retribution in the form of Lois' retirement, and while I do wish there was more of Clark Kent standing up to Lex Luthor in this confrontation, I think we got enough from them. It is pretty clear that Superman and Lex Luthor are enemies, and I can't wait to see how their rivalry plays out in this series. Superman vs Lex Luthor is coming.

This Lex is a man who lost everything but gained it back. He knows how to play the game, and now wasn't the time for revenge. The patient man is the more dangerous man. The Lex used in Supergirl was appropriate for that universe. A caricature of Superman's greatest human villain. Much like how each show in the Arrowverse made a mockery of the characters of the DC Universe, except Superman mostly. There are a few flaws with him here and there, but nothing serious.

I think a reason they did was because the showrunners are trying to distance the show from Earth Prime. Even Sam Lane and Otis's actors are different. The only Earth Prime actors who came back for this and Stargirl were Hoechlin, Tulloch, David Ramsey, Jenna Dewan, John Wesley Shipp and now Tom Canavagh.

@@Gumblethebear the reason, actually, had nothing to do with their quality. The CW was mainly valuable for how well their shows performed on Netflix. When the streaming wars were heating up and everyone wanted exclusivity, the contract between Netflix and the studios that owned the CW (paramount and Warner) was allowed to expire, cutting off the funding for the network.

Remember how Diggle mentioned Oliver Queen in season 1 and how there were many references to Crisis on Infinite Earths in season 1? But this show has always had a few tiny Arrowverse shreds in it, like sharing some actors and Bruno Mannheim being the doppleganger of Tobias Church from Arrow. I'm waiting to see what role Tom Cavanagh will play in season 4 😁

Clark has already proven several times that he's too stupid to anticipate villains showing up at the farm, despite how many times it has happened. He should be pushing Jordan to be Superboy, because at this point it's not clear that Superman alone will be able to protect Lois and Jonathan. Luthor doesn't play games, even compared to Morgan Edge and Bruno Mannheim. He WILL target their family, and Clark's obsession with maintaining a "normal life" means even less now than it did in the past.

Yet Clark still tries to act like it's some kind of sanctuary of "normal life". Meanwhile, the boys have to worry about staying alive in their own home. But they're somehow in the wrong simply because they don't forget all the times their lives have been in danger there.

Hate to break it to you, but in the comics Lex did had a beard. It was during the 90's comics run. He found out that he had cancer, so he fake his own death and put his mind in a young clone body to "save" himself. Then he passed himself off as his illegitimate son from Australia to get his company back. He grew his hair out long and a beard for the part, so people wouldn't get suspicious.

The idea in comics of Heroes never killing the bad guy because "they'd be just like them" has always troubled me. In a civilized world people can co-exist. But if an individual decides that the rules no longer apply to them then why are they extended the protection of those same rules? I feel it goes back to the idea of "Tolerance" as a moral absolute and that those who are tolerant will eventually be destroyed by those who are intolerant. I view tolerance as more of a social contract. Once you decide you're not playing by the rules then the rules no longer protect you. Batman should have killed Joker, for the common good. Superman should have killed Lex Luthor for the same reason. I get that it's a tv-show/comic-book and you can't kill an awesome bad-guy because it would end the story much too soon. Also kids are watching and you don't want to send the wrong message. But so many lives would have been saved in canon if they had done the deed.

I don't understand why Lex is so upset with Lois. They don't really elaborate at all on Lois' role in all this. Was she on the jury that put him away? Did she testify against him? Did she write a mean-spirited article on him? On another note, why couldn't Lex work his way out of being sent to jail? For all we know, the only evidence was the fake phone call. Considering how wealthy he is, and how easily he can manipulate or kill anyone he wants with no consequences, it seems incredulous that Lex couldn't find a way to avoid going to jail or have a backup plan to break him out of jail. At worst, he might have to flee the country to somewhere Superman can't find him. Considering Lex was able to hide from Superman for a month while creating Doomsday, I'd think he could easily get away.

I miss Jon Cryer as CW's Lex Luthor. He really managed to show how versatile of an actor he was by playing a supervillain. But this guy doesn't seem too bad

Ok I've missed something wasn't John Cryer Lex Luthor in CW? Admittedly haven't watched but the pilot of this particular show but John Cryer was Lex on Supergirl which takes place on this Earth now so what happened?

John Cryer did indeed play Lex Luther in Supergirl, but with the multiverse they changed things up. The Superman & Lois show takes place on another Earth after that happens. That's why there's a different actor who plays Lex Luthor on that show than on Supergirl. Can be a confusing thing that multiverse stuff.

If they were gonna do that why not get different actors to differentiate? This kinda stuff is why I quit watching the CW shows it was getting too confusing.

@@bhart3321 I’m not sure but the actors who played Superman & Lois on Supergirl maybe stood out and the CW wanted to give them their own show. Guess the writers just wanted them to live in their own world without any other superhero from the Arrowverse, so they wouldn't have to worry about getting their storylines involved. But yeah the whole multiverse thing can be confusing.

I'm a bit sad that Jon Cryer didn't return, even if it has been years since those events and justifies the recast in-universe. Just feels like Superman and Lois isn't part of the Arrowverse. The thing that jumpstarted this series. And yet, they make it a completely different universe. Might as well not even be part of the Arrowverse. Which feels like such a slap in the face.
