As a child growing up in S. Africa many many years ago, we used to place silk worms about to pupate on flat card shapes such as star shapes or squares shapes etc and use the yellow silk shapes as book marks. I also put lots of silkworms on a large 12" x 12" flat piece of card and they made a silk cloth. Many children made the silk bookmarks. We children would keep them as pets and feed them mulberry leaves, and save their eggs for the next year.

Neri Oxman and her lab's work is the most inspiring art of any kind being done today. And it goes beyond and redifines any conventional idea that the word art may encompass up to now. The imaginative synthesis of technology, biology, imagination and purpose have few if any precidents. It's absolutely new, original and inspiring and always fits Kandinsky's definition of beauty as that which is visually inexhaustible.
