The issue is that the speed of light is not just a speed, it is a natural constant. It is included in Relativity/Gravity, Electromagnetism/Maxwell-Equation, Nuclear-Physics/Restmassenergy. It doesn't just give us a velocity, it defines our laws of nature as constant.

Faster than light travel in the sense of a Star ship might be possible, but what blows the mind is time dilation... The ship you are travelling on may only take a few minutes to get to the destination and then only a few minutes to get back....but in that time everyone you know and love on earth gets old and dies.... The better Solution would be wormholes like in Stargate to a degree.

The first distant, interstellar, colonizers of the human race will be the ultimate heroes making the ultimate sacrifice for that exact point. The world they leave behind will be long dead and gone by the time they get back, if they even ever do come back. By that point, who knows if humanity will even still be here.

@@frethero19 I don't really agree in this sense: relatively NEAR destinations qualify both as 'interstellar' and also 'technically achievable' without sneaking past the presently known laws of physics with wormholes. Within say 10 light years. Well, I just Googled that ... and there are only 12 stars within 10 LY. Oh, how disappointing. Within 20 LY, there are 100+ stars. Still kind of disappointing. So after writing all that, i now basically agree with you. The first statistically possible interstellar destinations are quite likely much further than a single or even a handful of human generations in distance at achievable high speeds.

The time dilation you are describing will happen if we travel at near light speed through space, and FTL(faster than light) travel through space is not possible. However FTL is only possible using the alcubierre drive starship because in this concept space itself travels with the ship, because we are not traveling through space so no time dilation happens. Alcubierre drive is like constantly creating a wormhole around the ship so the effect will be similar to stargate wormhole.

What also might blow our minds is that if FTL was possible, so would time travel and causality paradoxes..and very possibly unavoidably slow. Travelling FTL is akin to crossing the horizon of a black hole and breaking your causal connection to home base. If we live in multiverse with an astronomical number of possible histories, after travelling to Andromeda for a picnic with aliens, you might only be able to return to an earth where humans never evolved.

The movie Interstellar touched on that already, the only way to travel very big distances through space would be wormholes (from what we know for now anyway). Then again we never directly detected wormholes (yet). The day we actually spot one and know it is one, it will be a great moment for science.

The moment a photon leaves the sun, it experiences time as a single instant or never ending because time slows down to a stop or an inifinity. So if we travel the speed of light then time stops, becomes infinite, or is instantaneous? How do you stop experiencing the speed of light if the experience is infinite?

Dune is a bizarre mixture of low tech and high tech. Heck, its not even laser swords like star wars. And even in Star Wars a lightsabre is not that great. It is totally lethal only at close range. If someone in real life was armed with a lightsaber someone with a handgun or even a bow and arrow with really good aim could defeat them from a distance and unlike what the Jedi do you won't just be able to effortlessly block everything with the laser blade.

It’s in ways simpler yet more complex than this. Scientists will start to discover many forms of particle which are superliminal since there are already many particles which don’t follow assumed rules. They already have the concept of superposition, cloud of possibility and entanglement, the former two being an admission that many forms of energy in space do A)Whatever we measure them doing and B) Do whatever the imagination could possibly conceive than doing. One aspect of advanced technology involves understanding how to make physical, light and mass based things behave more like sub atomic and quantum things by altering the rate of oscillation of matter, which Tesla spoke about. Once you have this then vehicles etc can appear here and there or wherever you in code them to appear because your vehicle is behaving like entangled particle and not something limited and liminal. Even the way scientists view entanglement will change, since they will realise that entangled particles are not even moving through time and space, they are moving on a quantumly stacked dimension where time and space do not matter. There already people on earth who understand all this, so can build you a virmana if you want, but they will hold back till we get to the level to appreciate it.

Faster than ligh travle requires negative mass. It has be recently discovered that negative mass is produced in exciton polariton". Under specific conditions, exciton polaritons (hybrid particles composed of light and excitons in a semiconductor) exhibit a dispersion curve that is inverted, effectively giving them a "negative mass" meaning they would accelerate in the opposite direction to a force applied to them, a concept considered unusual in classical physics; this can occur due to interactions with phonons within the material, leading to energy losses that alter the polariton behavior. The key feature is an inverted dispersion curve, where the energy of the polariton decreases with increasing momentum, unlike the typical positive slope seen in most particles. This phenomenon arises from strong coupling between light and excitons within an optical resonator, and can be influenced by factors like dissipative light-matter interactions and phonon scattering. This mechanism produces a negative vacuum condition similar to the casimeir effect from which energy can be extracted. Studying negative mass exciton polaritons has lead to new insights into quantum phenomena and has opened avenues for developing novel devices based on their unique behavior. For example, A, Rossi has just developed a self charging electic car. See here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qp-5iIh_nbZrmqc

You are correct. The closest star will take over 4 years to get to going light speed. If an alien civilization left the Andromeda Galaxy 2 million years ago going light speed, it'll still take them over 500,000 years to get to the Milky Way. Space is so damn big that we can't wrap our brains around it. I'd bet there's intelligent life exploring the universe but are they in our "neighborhood"? Our galaxy is a molecule in the ocean, maybe smaller, and there's people on Earth that think everything revolves around them. Stay humble 😆

I don't think we can make a form of propulsion that allows us to move faster than the speed of light. But if it were possible to lock onto something far enough away that it moves faster than the speed of light compared to where we are, that we can entangle. Well, then it would drag us through our current space faster than the speed of light. It probably isn't sustainable enough to get us to the next galaxy..but it can probably reduce how long it takes to get to the ends of our own solar system in a way that would fundamentally change the way we look at space travel.

Rather than think about generational ships, it would make more sense to improve propulsion systems, using fusion, anti-matter drives or something not yet discovered, to get a ship up to a high percentage of the speed of light. A journey to Alpha Centauri would take about four years, earth time. At 99% of light speed, only 65 days would have passed on the ship.

The speed of light is a constant upon which we have built the concept of time when time is actually the fourth dimension. Accelerating beyond the speed of light Allows you to move out of time and within time at the same time. Hence once you exceed the speed of light you can move anywhere Along the string of experiences and events by which we measure The passage of time.

The only thing i wish was clarified more is when they say the speed of light. For those maybe not up to speed on physics, they here that, and think, well there must be something out there faster then the speed of light. However, all that is really referencing is the speed of a particle without mass inside a vacuum. Unfortunately, without us finding a hack, we cant break that speed limit. I think the best we will achieve is nls, and have to look at hibernation technology to get us places. Even then, it would likely only get us around our close cosmic neighborhood.

I believe its so hard for us to invent a warp drive is because our space indistry is a offshoot of aviation, and we try to achive ftl travel using propulsion. Even all out sci fo movies lile star wars, rebel moon all show propulsion ships but wherever we see ufos, they never use propulsion technology. They use something else, something that works in a completely different way. Its like they turn gravity and physics off. I wont be surprised if the person who invents this type of tech, will be a person who was never in aviation or traditional space programs. It will requires some genius or some lucky regular joe to really think outside the box to invent it. I think the future is zero poing energy, we just havent figured out how to harness it yet.

If Warp drive is possible at all and it may be I believe that implementing it would require the entire world to work together on the project and join resources. It could not be a "P1$$1NG contest" like the moon missions were where one country tried to beat another country at it. Also, our ECONOIMIC system would need to totally change because this would cost HUGE amounts of money and I am imagining it costing the taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars every time the warp speed is raised on a ship. Our entire sociological, political and economic systems would have to change for this.

At some point, we will need to accept the fact that the Earth is all that we are ever going to have. Maybe we should focus on taking care of it instead of trying to terraform and colonize a dead planet.

@@Apistevist making grand statements about what is and is not possible at this point as far as the science of space travel or propulsion is pointless. We should theorize and keep an open mind creatively to see which theories in physics eventually works out.

The basis of any science is admitting limitations. That's what makes it science, not knowing. We ask questions,...theorize...test...then test some more. Then we try to disprove what we think we've proven. I don't get the point of your question.

The limit of the speed of Light was adapted because lack of knowledge. In the observed Supernova 187A the Neutrinos come 2.5 hours before the Light reaches us. There is unconfirmed experiments that the speed of Gravity is 64 times faster than the speed of Light. There is a new physics in the book - "Theory of Everything in Physics and the Universe" - where is revealed that the speed of Light cannot be the final limit of interstellar travel.

Interesting ideas, but what if nhi has been able to master dimensional jumping, maybe through this tech extremely long distances can be conquered,as it seems as though these nhi uap's seemingly jump in and out of this dimension, just maybe by dimensional jumping, space travel can be achieved, just a thought, I also think that the nhi uap's we have been seeing are scouts, sent ahead of the so called mother ship, maybe they are showing here themselves looking for a new habitable planet and since we've been sending out radio signals willy nilly for the last fifty years, our actions have attracted the attention of deep space travelers, again, just a thought, and also the nhi who've been here for ages, could be the original scouts sent here, and they are just waiting for the next mission to arrive so that the first batch can return home, I believe that there is far more to these latest sightings than meets the eye, obviously the powers that be, not having a handle on the present situation, are fearful that this new paradigm will erode thier power base, and knowing our propensity for making war against each other, maybe, just maybe, nhi are coming to retrieve thier crashed uap's to prevent us from retro engineering alien tech as a means of gaining the upper hand against perceived agressors, anyway, enough chit chat, keep on asking important questions, thumbs up, sir, chau for now

Objects with mass can’t travel faster than light because of Einstein’s theory of relativity. As something speeds up, its mass effectively increases, and it takes more and more energy to keep accelerating. Near the speed of light, the mass would become infinite, and it would take infinite energy to go any faster. That’s why only massless particles like light can hit that speed.

Here's a technology that hasn't advanced....TOILET PAPER!! I mean, we finally have wet wipes that are flushable (i'd been using baby wipes for 10 years now) but the method of cleaning our backside hasn't changed. You either use wadded paper or (if you're in those countries) a Bidet....or your hand and a wash bucket.

We don't need FTL. We only need fusion. With fusion...we could achieve a small fraction.of light speed....2% to 20% or whatever. That fraction is enough to colonize the galaxy with generation ships. Not warp speed. Not hyper space. Just fast enough where people leave Earth...and grandchildren reach Alpha Centauri..Then , Someone from Alpha Centauri repeats to the next star. And so on.

element 115 (moscovium) can amplify the modulation of the gravity wave, it can't be refined here, its half life is 0.6 seconds. However, in another star system with more gravity and mass where atomic clocks run slower, the radioactive decay would be less, bob lazar mentioned the half life of 115 they had captured lasted 20 million years roughly.

Who's to say, we aren't anything more than a microscopic entity within another microscopic entity. Everything interacts with its environment, from the soil beneath us to the heavens above. We are all part of God, in the "human consciousness" form of the Creator, whatever that may be. Perhaps we are quantum itself, constantly evolving through the collective human experience. Who’s to say that what we call "complex neurons" aren’t just another form of consciousness? From the smallest molecule to the vastness of the cosmos, everything operates with an inherent drive to survive and serve, autonomously, outside of our control, personal will or otherwise. Some of these things seem to exist beyond the constraints of time itself, we can only theorize if they exist outside of human consciousness as they couldn't be observed and predating human observation. We continually discover new phenomena that seem to know their purpose without our intervention-independent entities functioning within a greater autonomous system. At death, only our physical shell decays. The energy within us-our soul-is returned to its source: God, the universe, the ether, or whatever you choose to call it. This is the very essence of life as we know it. In this sense, we are already in Heaven, existing as part of the Creator’s collective body, trying each and every possibile outcome of the seven deadly sins. Think of the billions of human lives-countless experiences-woven together over time, we can count nearly 9BN today. This is quantum: experiencing everything simultaneously, all seeking the best outcome. Decay and atrophy are not just inevitable; they are essential components of entropy, driving the cycle of evolutionary transformation, searching for ultimate peace and tranquility.

AI will travel to nearby stars. Humans are too expensive. We need air, food, lots of water and not to mention we are very sensitive to the cosmic radiations. Not worth the effort. The biggest project that humanity could wish to ever achieve is to terraform Venus or Titan (Saturn's moon). Similar to earth they both have substantial atmospheres and in theory you could change their atmospheric composition. This way one day we could have a sister planet for earth nearby.
