I like how composed John Vervaeke is in this podcast. In other podcasts he tends to go all over the place to get to a point. So I suppose kudos to Lex and John.

TBH having loved the meaning crisis (I devoured it every friday it dropped) JV was so shy and unassuming - afterwards he never came across as focused. i think experience has done its job - it needed to bc its complex and you need to hold on to all its strands/language to really 'grasp' it.

Hard to believe Vervaeke and Peterson both from Toronto University (latter now left). Beautiful contributions to our understanding of life through meaning and myth respectively.

1:32:12; John says; "Doing that best cog sci, that best exaptation, we can come up with that functionality, without having to buy into the particular propositional sets of the legacy religions". I would like to add that, for those practicing the legacy religious traditions in the modern day, we can apply the same technique (best cog sci, best exaptation) to their particular propositional sets and rediscover the originally intended functionality in a way that is applicable in our modern version of ways of being. I have found this to be experientially valid. Thanks @Lex and @John, such a beautiful dialogue.

I’m 20 minutes into the talk and I can’t help but continue to feel more and more uncomforted by it. Which tells me that I’m probably on the path to sorting out reality as it is rather than how I want it to be.

This is yet another great conversation with another philosopher and deep thinker, with whom I very much enjoy listening to.
@sylviaowega383911 ай бұрын
John Verveake is definitely a great thinker and a fellow Canadian, whom I’m much more in agreement than some of the other academics. He is a very profound thinker whom has a great understanding of my done of my favourite philosophers, like Spinoza and Plato, yet doesn’t have the arrogance that some of the other public figures has.

Finally. Been waiting for this for quite some time, especially since Lex asks every guest about the meaning of life. Well, JV’s got a few things to say about it… like 50 hours worth. Well looks like this is the rest of my Sunday night.

Easily one of my few favorites of this podcast so far, up there with the Bach and Wolfram discussions. Just want to say thanks for sharing these amazingly conducted podcasts, allowing me to get some real meaning, information and insight from them. Would love to see a Lex discussion with Richard Schwartz about IFS at some point.

I am continually astounded at the conversations Lex Fridman has with first rate speakers! I am 58 years old and a native english speaker yet, he is more articulate in the language I was born into, than I am. I truly love the shows you have done! You are helping me to learn. I am truly grateful to live in an age where this is possible. I remember reading “Boswell’s Johnson” in college. The enjoyment to hear the discussions of great thinkers, what a time to be around in this world! Thank you!

I know from professional experience over almost 50 years that interviewing is harder than it looks. Lex makes it look and sound easy but only because of the background work he puts into it, and his active intelligence that allows him to keep up and understand his guests. Masterly.

JV is going to absoutely blow up soon. This man has completely and fundamentally shifted the way I live and look at life. His meditation course on his channel is kind of scuffed, but if you put the time in and follow it, it will do wonders for all the things you want to do and be in life.

I think this is another testament to the value that this podcast brings to the world. I'm sure that it's safe to assume that John Vervaeke has a lot of published work, but the accessibility of this podcast, both in medium (KZbin) and in style (spoken interview) is what helps to make this such valuable content. To imagine that it's only 115K shy of a million views is impressive and has likely introduced Vervaeke's ideas to a much larger audience than what would have otherwise found his work. This is certainly my introduction to him. Thank you, Lex Fridman. And thank you, John.
