Never thought I would ever comment to a video about dogs... but here I am. I have never been a parent of Rottweilers, but have been a parent of Dobermans & Pitbulls. Which have crossed the rainbow bridge sometime ago. My heart went out to you both, when you made a plea to find Lexi a forever home, but was emotional when you decided to give her a second chance. Please keep up the good work and Mahalo for reminding me how much I miss being a parent to these powerful breeds. God bless...

Gah! She’s too beautiful! I love that you’re trying to make it work. I babysit a Rottweiler who was rescued from a life of neglect and abuse and he is the sweetest most loving dog I’ve ever known. Also anyone who has something to say about her being in a crate while she has aggression issues with other dogs is an idiot.

Thank you for the update. So glad to hear you are not giving up on Lexi and continue giving the trainings she needs, even though it will take a lot of work (rehabilitating a rescue dog who had a rough life like Lexi is not easy). You guys have so much love for her and she loves you so much too, we can tell. Kenai does seem to be still a bit scared of Lexi - when you and Lexi were inside at the door, even though there was a gate between Lexi and the other three dogs, Kenai was standing in the very behind because he saw Lexi, and he was reluctant to go to the front. But the trainings you've been giving her will be worth it. Lexi's behaviour will improve. We have seen the result of your hard work with Fluffy, Kenai and Kita, they are amazing dogs and hopefully Lexi will catch up soon. Don't feel bad about the kennel. For Lexi's situation, the kennel is actually crucial for the time being. The muzzle is also a good idea when training Lexi to socialize with the other three doggies. Best of luck, you got this! :-)

Yes I agree, He is doing the right things, I know he was acting on emotion wanting to find her a new place. But she needs him and it will be fine in the end, I know form experiance I have had this same issue happen. Collin has the right mind set to make it work. He has a huge yard, he can even make a pen for her while the others are out with her so they are protected. Just swap them back and forth so the odors are the same in both areas. It will work. I know it will.

First off I'd like to say thank-you for this genuine love you share with us. And congratulations on your healing. I tip my hat to you. I watched this series twice and thought I would share a few things with you that I observed, as a Certified Master Trainer with almost 20 years experience. ( I only train large working Service Dogs) Your new gal did know her name. But she chose not to listen - sometimes. There are two possibilities I observed. The first one is called "learned irrelevance". By repeating and exposing the animal to a stimuli (calling her name) without connecting it to a positive re-enforcer, the dog actually becomes desensitized, leading to ignoring the stimuli. Since she is not interested in treats, we need to join it with something irresistible. And since she has so much prey drive (that's why she like moving balls), this should be added when her name is called each time for a good two weeks. You were trying to call her off the ball to come to you, but she was inexperienced in human interaction. Therefore, that ball was of more value to her than coming to her Papa. If however you would have called her name and started running, or called her name and have something to sling around, her name would be mentally joined with that positive re-enforcer. After about 100 repetitions of this exercise in 2 weeks), you constantly alternate with the purpose of getting her weened off the toy/game and just respond to her name. Call once/play one, call twice/praise once, call two times/play once. When she shows signs of ignoring again, go back to a game. And always close the day off with a good fetch or chase. The second possible reason is that she may is an "independent" thinker. As you know each dog has a different aptitude. Independent thinkers only respond/listen when they believe it is important. I honestly would have needed to see more of it, to make that determination. And then it would need to be tested if it was influenced by the neglectful owner. (Forced into independence) I've watched a few more of your shows, and saw that you decided to re-home her. As painful as it was for you both, I honestly think you made the right choice. From the introduction between the her and your fabulous Rotty Tribe, I also made a few observations. I think you were trying to fight nature. You new big gal was/is a sovereign queen. She had the weight, muscle system and prey drive it takes to lead a pack. Unfortunately, the "pecking order" between dogs is worked out viscously more often than not. Plus you had a girl that was ignored and neglected. This causes a dog to hone into their visceral instincts. (That's how they treat police dogs for at least 16 months, so they learn to return to be more savage than domesticated) Now take her sovereign stature and add her primal drive and this queen would rule the nest - regardless of what was intended. Anything else would not have given her the full life she can now have, because of your selfless love. Just one more tip: When you introduce another member to your four-legged family, don't do it in the living room. Take the newbie out with the oldest first (in age order to the youngest) and exercise like walking/jogging next to each other. The human should always be between the two. It reverts the excitement into physical activities and makes them focus on something besides each other. By the time the new pup has gone through 3 dogs and 3 exercises there is usually little strength left in the new one to cop an attitude. You both do such a great job! Your dogs are so fortunate to be loved by you and Sahm. Greetings from Germany! ;-)

I have had a similar experience with my GSD. You are not alone! I promised her the day I picked her up that I would always be there for her and never let her down. She was accused of biting someone. It was false, but I ended up closing my business and moved out of that city. Been 3 1/2yrs. We are all happy and she is still here. I was criticized for closing my shop because my dog wasn't allowed in town. She had a rough start in life. 4 homes in 6 mo. She and I are inseparable. Its okay to get on the floor with them. They like that!

Glad to hear, Collin. You’re a stand up guy! We recently rescued our Rottie, Jada. She had some issues and we didn’t know if she would make it here but she has since settled into our routine and what a sweet girl; we love her. Respect you and Sam for what you do and many thanks for the channel!

I'm so glad you're not giving up/rehoming Lexi Lou. You're right, she is love starved, been horribly neglected and doesn't know how to DOG, yet. Love and Light to you and your whole family! October of 2017? That's when my sweet baby boy was born. Lost him before his 3rd birthday. Glad to see an October baby being saved.

@@TheRottyRanch I saw the videos with Hayden taking her and your visit to see her. A sad decision but also an awesome one. You can FEEL their love for each other! Bonus is that she's not out of your lives!😘😘❤❤

Thanks for the update on Lexi, Collin. I got so emotional watching it that I felt my mascara may start running as my eyes started watering so much :). Saw Lexi doing the 'Rotty lean' into you and looking up at you with doe eyes. Beautiful girl. So happy you have made the decision to persevere with her and see where it takes you. I well know the logisitical nightmare it can be trying to separate dogs on the same property. To keep all the dogs safe the only sensible option is a cage and muzzling when required. I don't think anyone who has been in that same situation would disagree. You can only do what works for you and your family. There are as many theories about raising dogs as there are about raising kids and each and every dog is as different as we humans so there can never be a 'one size fits all' approach. We are all teachers and we are all pupils, and we learn as we go along. Also, I did notice that you had gone through the channels and answered each and every question and/or comment. I noticed this before you commented about it on the live stream. That personal touch is why your channel is growing like it is. Much aroha to you and yours.

Wowie Collin you got me overwhelmed and you won’t believe that my Rottweiler Karma who turns 11 months today on 29th January was also an abandoned case when i got him home at the age of 4.5 months.,he was nasty and he too didn’t know any commands whatsoever and today not just me but he’s the apple of everyone’s eyes so I’m very proud of your decision to give time to lexi and I also understood your decision when you thought of giving her away cause exactly after 2 weeks and also right after 2 months too I did felt like returning my Rottweiler in those weak moments and today I’m so proud of him and myself that he’s with me 😇 and I didn’t take a hasty decision back then... trust in me when I say that your videos were my or rather our life saviour ☺️ Let’s bring in Kenai’s birthday tomorrow with full happiness and let’s forget what’s gone yesterday and we all live for a happy today‼️ 🤚🏻High5

You don’t owe anyone explanations for your actions. Her coat looks great and that says everything to me. Time fixes all ills with dogs. Sometimes a pack of dogs has to find their own place. She is an alpha. You do have to be the alpha in this situation. Show them love and attention. You are learning who she is. Prayers for you and the dogs.

I just found ur KZbin channel and watch ur rescue of Lexi Lou and then watched this video and I'm in love with ur channel already. And it was so awesome bc my rottweiler Aenomaus was even watching ur channel with me. Wish i could share the pic of him so intensely watching lexi. I love this breed and very glad there is a channel to show the real side of Rottweilers and that their stereotype is all wrong. Thank you so much.

I am glad you stick with Lexi and you try to train her, and trust me it is possible, you can teach an old dog new tricks, of course not being home a lot does not help much, but you trained your other dogs so you have the know how. This dog has no other way out, and you are her daddy now ;) I am so happy you are not giving up, please stay with it, at least it is a better home then she had before, also she is already listening to some commands, great job and congratulations to that, wishing you all the best in training her and letting her be a part of the pack ;)

I have been watching a lot of rottweiler videos and reading articles to decide if this breed is right for our family (or if our family is right for this breed? 🙂). Your channel has been the best, most helpful! We will be rescuing a dog, so this title caught my attention, but I wasn't anticipating how much it would touch my heart. I have a son who is where you were a few years ago. He is also a good, good person with a beautiful heart. Although I have to keep certain boundaries, I have never and will never give up on him. You give me continued hope for him. ❤ We also rescued a dog (but a little dog) who was on death's door when we brought her home. She had terrible nightmares, didn't get along with the other pets, and wouldn't eat or drink if anyone was watching. A couple years later now, her nightmares are rare, she cuddles with the other dog, and gets as excited at mealtime as all the rest. It is the best feeling to watch a dog go from a poor, miserable creature to a happy, confident pet before your eyes. Thank you for the work you do with your dogs. You are a good, wonderful person this world is lucky to have.
