I've run my own company for 21 years as a cabinetmaker and finish carpenter. I tell my clients that the most important thing of all is that they are happy with the job. If they are not, I make it right, even if it's costs me some time and money. It's a good business philosophy IMO. Oh, and I'm gonna pick up the torch as well. I have some Lexivon torx and e-torx sockets and they are solid.

I wish you the best with your purchase. The tips themselves can be used in any way you can think of. Primarily the pointy ones are designed for soldering, whole the blade one was designed for cutting. However they can be used to burn, melt or draw as you feel fit. Great video. Just received my LX-771 from Amazon and when ordering, didn't pay close enough attention to the butane fuel type until I was reading the directions. 1 user on KZbin uses regular Ronson fuel, which is not recommended and swears he's never had a problem with clogging. What your experience in this area and what would you recommend. Where I live everybody sells the Ronson Multi-Fill Ultra Butane Fuel which has no specs. Thanks again.
@CandorPerlicious
@CandorPerlicious Жыл бұрын
In my opinion Ronson fuel is ok for lighters and similar. I wouldn't recommend it for something that I would expect to have consistent flame properties over a long time. As you indicated, Ronson doesn't really have any specs so it's not easy to tell how well it's filtered. In the video description text you will find the recommended fuels, which were recommended to me by Lexivon. They actually use some of the ones I've listed. Other than fiddling with getting the right tip adapter that I felt comfortable with, I've not had an issue so far. Perhaps a bit more expensive than Ronson but I'm getting good results with the ones listed. Hope that helps.

Just bought the LX-771 and received it yesterday. Just opened it up and I'm pleasantly surprised at the quality, very nice! Decided to see if anyone had done a video for it which brings me here. Very good review, sir. I've only soldered a few times so I don't know much about it. But from looking at what's on the market, this was a choice well made. My next choice would have been the ‘Dremel Versa Flame’ version which is around ten dollars more. But even at that, I like this one more.

Great video! I feel in love with the LX-771 and will place my order! How do you rate the butane vs battery cordless irons for general small electrical soldering, if you don't mind commenting?
@CandorPerlicious
@CandorPerlicious 2 жыл бұрын
My reply would be that I have no issues with battery powered irons, especially a week made one. I am considering one myself for times when I need to make a quick LIGHT electronics repair. The butane soldering torch, while convenient, is more suited for heavier solder jobs such as working on thicker gauge truck/trailer or tv and similar tires of work. Whole the butane works with smaller projects it can be cumbersome sometimes as they are usually bigger, fatter and have less precise heat control but may offer longer working times between fillings. That being said I would consider both a welcome addition to my tool box. I think they both have their own niche to fill.

Would like to see you soldering an electronic component with the LX770. Are you able to keep temperatures reasonably low for delicate work? Do you feel if you fill the canister half the amount of fuel you'd be able to keep heat lower when set at lowest setting?
@CandorPerlicious
@CandorPerlicious Жыл бұрын
Not the first request for that and I might do that in the future. I don't normally use it for delicate soldering, unless I have to since I have a nice solder station. I do use it for bigger things such as xt60 connectors, 14 gauge or bigger wire splicing, repairing wires on cars, boats and such.I use it more for a portable torch than soldering. But to answer your other question: it's not difficult to control the heat but I still think it's a bit warmer than it needs to be on low for delicate work and obviously no real way of knowing what the tip temperature is. Being half full doesn't seem to effect it much even when using it as a torch. When you do notice the flame getting weaker you're pretty much at the end of the tank. I also have the bigger brother which is more of a stand-up torch and use it as either a torch or with the heat gun attachment for heat shrink tubing.
@tech29X
@tech29X Жыл бұрын
@@CandorPerlicious Thanks, couple hours ago I received my shipment of LX770 and found out the hard way ;-) The unit is well built, but the iron is too hot for delicate electronics work and impossible to keep the tip temperature consistent for transistor soldering. I wanted a compact portable iron and avoid the battery operated stuff but failed miserably.

@carlosgraphic 3 ай бұрын
Question. If you put the pencil style with full flame looking down (straigh to floor) does it act weird and shut it off? My butane works o.k but it makes that. I don't know if it normal or an issue of the butane gas. I'm using benzomatic butane. It is supposed to be 3 times refine. Thank you.
@CandorPerlicious
@CandorPerlicious 3 ай бұрын
Pointing the torch straight down will cause issues such as that. The reason being is once you have inverted it you run the risk of pushing liquid butane out the nozzle. The other thing that could cause something of that nature would be especially after it's just been filled, is the pressure is quite high still and you may need to reduce your flame until the pressure equalizes in the tank.

Hi, neat little soldering torch, I would like to get one of those soon. I was reading the specifications on Amazon and it says that the metal tank is refillable. That brought 2 questions to my head: 1: - how do you refill the tank? 2: - can the butane fuel be replaced with propane? Please excuse my ignorance in this matter!☹️
@CandorPerlicious
@CandorPerlicious 3 жыл бұрын
The answers to your questions are as follows. 1) simply buy refillable butane cans like the ones used to fill any good cigarette lighter or refillable torch. In the video description you will find links to several compatible butane cans. 2) As far as filling with propane, there are no propane cans that I am aware of that would work with these. If there is some kind of an adapter, and I am aware of none, that would convert a standard propane torch bottle then I guess it could work but I'm not familiar enough with the pressure inside a propane bottle to know if it is too high to cause damage to the valve. I hope that answers your questions.

Candor, it is Your presentation that has provided the perspective and information for me to feel confident in the purchase of this tool, the LX771. After watching a number of other presentations of various offerings, it occurred to me that the price range of offerings reflects the arbitrary categories of lighter grade, kitchen grade, and tool grade. I cannot feel safe with lesser quality construction of cheaper price points, seeing that butane leakage will ignite when the unit is in use I want This Tool. Even the 80 dollar vanity units don't offer what This Tool does. The click of the igniter sounds like quality engineering. However, my primary concern is that the flame Must Go Out if I lose grip of the Tool. Two other product offerings I viewed which possessed that feature, do not exhibit the manufacturing quality of This Unit. Your story relating LEXIVON's prompt action towards remedy has alleviated my concern over potential buyer's remorse. Thank you. PS:. That antagonist can take a hike.

@@CandorPerlicious that Dremel is about 40 US dollars in Sweden, so I wonder if they dumbed it down for the Swedish market. The lexivon isn't available here unfortunately. I'm really sorry for the late delay in responding. But no actually I did not have an issue with it. from what I understand though if you get one that is completely and totally empty it might take a moment for it to start flowing properly. The way I usually ignite them is by turning the fuel on to low letting it run for a second or two and then ramping it up to a little bit more than halfway before igniting.

I have one, the only problem with mine is that it is very inconsistent when it comes to lighting. You have to click it 4 or 5 times to finally get it to light. To me that’s very aggravating. I had a Master appliance brand that I paid about three times what I did for this one. But it seems like I was sending it back to Master Appliance every year for repairs. That got extremely expensive. Lexivon is definitely a better product for way less money.

This happens to all torches. Butane right? Piezoelectric? It’s because the igniter wire is slightly off and typically user error unless new. But it happens because it’s hard not to accidentally touch or move it. Easy fix though.

The plastic is tough and will not crack if you drop it but will melt if to close of heat. It’s sad because the mechanism is good.

This and the Dremel VersaTip seem exactly the same.
@CandorPerlicious
@CandorPerlicious 3 жыл бұрын
While the do look almost identical they are not. The Dremel has more of a coned bottom so the bottom of the tank has a narrower surface to stand upright. As for any of the internal components I can't say exactly if they are the same or just similar looking. Also, for, as you put it, an identical looking item, the Lexivon is still around $20 cheaper in price.

Another commenter said the same thing. And I will admit they look similar there are differences. The Dremel had more of a coned bottom so I don't think it's as stable in the upright position. As for the internals I can't speak for the Dremel. However the Lexivon is considerably cheaper.

LOL personal preference on plastic fuel tanks but after watching you slam things down drop things I would say you need to stick with metal I've had a RadioShack plastic one for the better part of twenty years but of course I'm not abusing it it's all in the filtered butane that causes problems and when it does have a problem it's also a easy fix

No they are not paying me. I merely get to keep what they send me for review. And while it is technically considered compensation, which I make clear in my videos, I also made it very clear to them that I wasn't going to sugar coat or give them reviews that were not warranted. I just happened to really come to like the tool line and have continued to do reviews when possible. I get to keep the tools regardless of good or bad reviews, should they ever happen. So far I have been happy with them and they have even come in handy recently for a few projects and they performed very well.

Even the best of companies have product failures at times. If the company continuously supplies bad products and services that's one thing. I don't think we should disregard the fact that a company did what was right, fixed the issue. The replacement and every other subsequent item I've purchased/gotten from them has been of very good quality. As for the Chinese comment, the tools by Lexivon are not made in China.

@@CandorPerlicious The butane torches are. Have a look at the Dremel Versatip. If you say Lexivon is made in California, then shipped to Rep of China, then rebadged as a Dremel (a premium American Brand) and sent back to the USA, who am I to argue. But this is Cut and Paste. "Designed and Warranted by LEXIVON USA - Manufactured and Certified in Taiwan under our strict quality standards & supervision."

@@keithduffield5239 no what I'm saying is that Lexivon tools are all made in Taiwan unlike other manufacturers as you say which have them assembled or buy most of the parts overseas in China. However it might be they get some tips from the same place as Dremel but that I can't say for sure.
