After a rough day, I always take at least a few days off no matter how good I felt I played . Playing immediately after a big loss, people feel the need to recoup. Even if it’s only subconsciously, take a break until the feeling of needing to play goes away. Then comeback fresh. After 30+ years of playing, follow this one piece of advice, will save a bad session from being a bad streak. Thanks for posting, losing vlogs are hard to make.

Lex, you’re a real man because you’re not afraid to be vulnerable and explicit in your vulnerability. To share your highs and lows takes guts and you’ve clearly got guts! I have watched many vlogs over the years and yours is in a realm of its own. You provide excellent commentary, you show all types of hands and take us on a ride as we tag along in your thought process. This vlog in particular was a moment in time where you simply ran poorly and that will happen. Maybe you played a hand or two that were shown that you might have handled differently in retrospect. But you also performed a few well-disciplined lay downs. You’re a fine player with a fine mind and above all else you seem a fine human being, thoughtful, sensitive and solid in yourself. All of these qualities will serve you well in anything you do or are doing. You’re a winner Lex, that is for certain.

I really appreciate seeing the big downs as well as the ups in poker. Anyone can show the wins, it takes character to show the losses. Know that things will turn around eventually, the tricky part is riding it out and making good decisions to help that turn around happen. Love the content and the decision process you provide!

I went through a similar session yesterday and i wake up to see your vlog. In my mind i played well but absolutely every hand ended up with being 2nd best. My last hand of the night was quad over quad and the bad beat had been hit earlier yesterday. I know no one like to hear bad beat stories but literally hitting a bad beat jackpot that had been emptied earlier in the day makes it feel so much worse. I appreciate your transparency and i respect you more for showing the up and down sessions. The contemplating your career choice silence was exactly my mood when i got in my car. But today is a new day and i know you will get it back and i hope i do as well.

Much respect and appreciation for this post Lex. I'm a recent follower, but, after watching a few other poker vloggers, I've come to new heights of appreciation for your raw honesty and insightful analysis along with the clear and concise thought process. Your vlog is a mixture of live study and following your personal journey navigating the world of poker as a profession. These past year upended so many of us, I personally loved playing poker in the past, but never looked at it as a serious endeavor, just a fun recreation. Then with a change of locations and careers, I played my first live tournaments in January 2020, found some early success, hit a couple scores that in previous jobs would equal weeks of pay. Suddenly I began this endeavor to study, learn more and see if I could possibly play this game as a professional. It has been one emotional rollercoaster filled with wild highs and more money than I have ever had before, and the lowest of lows where I'm chasing my tail wondering how I was going to crawl back from the turns of bad luck and, at times, induced POOR POOR play. Brother, I feel your pain in this one. Through it all, you maintained your composure and discipline (K-10 hand, I can understand the line of thought, but we must beware our own bias brought to the table through past information...and give credit to any players ability to hit a hand, as well as their awareness of their own table image and strategizing to leverage it as such...humans, though the spectrum is wide, are fairly intelligent, adaptable creatures). To wrap this up, as one follower commented, and I've found true in my journey these past 18 months...take a few days off. Remember why you began this endeavor, take advantage of your time freedom, enjoy the FL water and sunshine, feed the soul however you do so and return to the tables once you feel grounded and centered. The game is going nowhere, as you know, it's only going to take 1 or 2 good runs to more than recover this loss and get back in the black. You got this!

Rule of thumb is about 30 buy-ins to play professionally, some say less some more by about 10 in either direction. A fair amount of players at this level are getting staked to some degree also, since for this 5/10/25 game with a reasonable buy-in of $5K you are talking about a $100K-200K bankroll to be able to withstand variance and to not be playing with scared money

Just had my first pretty big losing session in 2/5 (I am the guy that said hi to you while waiting in line to cash in). I REALLY appreciate that you show a losing session like this. Makes me feel much better. I think I got outplayed once....maybe....but in general think things just didn't go my way (there was one exception where I got the nut straight on the turn with a nut flush draw - that was a dream, but the only good hand really). Anyway, thank you for showing the good AND the bad and I agree that you played fine; just one of those sessions. Pleasure to meet you and good luck.

Tough loss, but you played well. Hindsight is always 20/20. You learnt from it and will crush it next session. Those kind of players are always tempting to stack….. Embrace the variance. What makes poker so special is that losers can sometimes win. It’s what brings them back and it’s precisely how you make a living-eventually the odds will be in your favour. 60%+ of the time. That’s all you need.

Another honest Vloger willing to show how bad sessions can run. I can feel your pain Lex, even though I don't play at those limits, even player has experienced a session where it seems you always have the 2nd best hand. You have a great mental outlook, and sometimes it's best to just get up and walk around, or change tables, or drop down limits for the night to get some 9f the run good back. I hate it when a player who has shown bluffs, or over playing a weak hand, always has it when I've got the 2nd best, but that's the way the damm game goes sometimes, I'm sure you'll be back in the black no time.

I feel your pain Lex. Some days are so terrible that your mind can't even comprehend that it's possible. To try to put things into perspective a bit for you, with the mandatory straddle on it's a 10/25 game as opposed to a 5/10 game. $6k is a rough night, but in that game it's only 240 big blinds which in theory isn't the most horrendous outcome. At least this terrible session was preceded by some really good sessions.
