Super helpful to see other people's creative process. Video Request: How you approach the brass / woodwind sections. I know I tend to kind of ignore them since I never know what to do outside of having the horns or flutes carry a melody. 😂 I'm thinking like... accents and whatnot. How to use them to flavor a piece/bread and butter / best practices and principles you follow.

So glad you're back! This is almost exactly the same creative process I use. Nice to see I'm not the only one!

I relate so much to this basically every time I try to make something. My problem is that I get stuck in a loop of trying to figure out what to even put down (getting the ideas for the various sections) - this seems to come very naturally to you. Hopefully this is something that gets better in time... 😅Loved your end result very much!

Nice to see your process. You started out simple but the final piece was great. Thanks for sharing.

i so recognize this. as a composer for commissioned works for almost 20 years now i turned out to love fixing music instead of creating it. this made me actually love feedback on an already composed work. a briefing for something new though? hellish.

Exactly! Before jumping to picture, if there’s time, I love to flesh out all of the themes first and then adapt the material.

@@MattiaChiappa good advice. even after so long i still commit too quickly, and go into composing further, production and mixing, and then have to backtrack because the original idea wasn't right. happens all. the. time. i wish i could remember to not do this more often. what's very hard about this imo, is that an idea usually sucks until you produce it well. some composers have that gift to hear if an idea is good, even in general midi, but i really need that nudge to be able to believe in an idea. this is a dichotomy that i always battle against and this is why i always commit to an idea before discarding it.

I have a similar workflow like yours but a good chunk of my time goes out in figuring out the notes and chords playing in my head 😅

Very useful as always! Thanks a lot Mattia! Btw I'm buying a new macbook since they just announced M4 (I'm still using a intel macbook now). I would like to know if I really need 64gb? Or maybe I'll just get 48gb cause it's way cheeper? I sometimes might do some large orchestral project. Can I know how much RAM does your computer have? Thanks!!!
@MattiaChiappa
@MattiaChiappa 7 күн бұрын
It’s a bit like picking a hard drive. You can run a project and see how much ram you’re using. Having more ram is always nice because you can run more virtual instruments simultaneously. Once you run out of memory you simply cannot load any more instruments, as if you run out of space on a hard drive. Personally I’d get as much as I can afford but that’s me

It’s just a title based on the idea that “fixing” is easier than “writing”. Compared to the rest of YT this is such a mild click bait. If it accomplishes the goal to help more people, that wouldn’t have found the video otherwise, I think it’s a win.
