Video @ 2:14 - "5w-30 it is" - Huh ? Strictly VERBOTEN ! - Thicker oil than recommended will cause the piston oil ring (it meters out the film of oil on the cylinder walls), to eventually gum/coke up. When this happens the engine will begin to excessively burn oil... - Lexus SPECIFICALLY warns against altering their SAE 0w-20 recommendation👀

If you have a 2016 ES model, THEN THIS COMMENT IS FOR YOU… PERTAINING TO THE RESET MAINTENANCE ISSUE. So what you want to do to reset your maintenance notification is push the start stop button once your cars electricity is on use your arrows on the right side of your steering wheel to scroll right all the way to setting Menu. In the setting Menu go down to Vehicle Settings, once clicked you will see Scheduled Maintenance and Oil Maintenance click which ever your trying to reset and once clicked it will say RESET then turn your car off and back on again and your maintenance needed issue should be fixed

I really dislike these oil filters! Why does Toyota/Lexus do this? Seems to be on all of their V6 models. That being said i really love these cars! They last practically forever. Much cheaper to maintain than the V8 models over the long haul! Thank you for making the video for us do it yourselfers👍👍

@@100thAnniversary please go back and watch the 2:20 mark. I specifically talk about what the oem recommends. This way the viewer knows. Please use oem in yours. I’m not doing the oil change on your vehicle, I’m showing you how to do an oil change on your vehicle. The viscosity I use does not have to match what you do but the process is exactly the same.

I just got a 2015 es350 and do service all my own vehicles. It appears to be about as basic as it gets to change the oil on it. This is my 1st vehicle using an oil cartridge rather than a metal housed filter. Is the cluster computer operating separately from the dash computer when setting up the oil service alert? The dash computer shows you how many miles have been counted from the last reset. Does the cluster oil service alert show you how many miles have been counted?
@JohnEngel7 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching. Yep they are very simple to do an oil change on. As long as the rest was done correctly, the dash will let you know when the next service is due.

What makes you think 5W-30 gives you more protection than the recommended grade? A little bit below the full mark is good especially if you aren't checking it with the engine at operating temperature. The oil will expand when it is hot.
@JohnEngel2 жыл бұрын
It’s all based on the weight. The higher the weight the thicker the oil which can protect more but you have to be careful about the temp. As a thicker weight oil will become sludge when cold.
@njsongwriter2 жыл бұрын
@@JohnEngel As I understand it with modern oils the protection comes more from the additive package than from the viscosity. Also the lower viscosity results in a better flow rate especially when the engine is cold and that's where most engine wear occurs. Should you use thicker oil? High mileage oil...
